Having Santos play three of four games in this series is so asinine
and where is Murphy? How about Evans in LF instead of humandp?

Yup
That was my immediate reaction. Evans, Murph and Scheid should be in. Sit Tatis and Santos. Plus, we will lose out on shots of Schneid’s wife. I’m guessing Santos does not have a hottie in his stable.

Off to the bar in a bit to watch this one
I am on my last two days of work and, well, I guess it doesn’t matter now if I disappear to watch the game for a couple of hours.

Let’s get Johan back in the win column!
The 2009 Amazin' Avenue: SCREW K-ROD, SIGN FUENTES! Check it out, K-Rod ERA under 1.00, Fuentes over 5.00. CASTILLO MUST GO! Castillo is hitting .300!! DON'T SIGN SHEFFIELD! Sheffield has been a great signing. OMIR WHO? Omir grand slam! OMIR SUCKS! Omir takes Papelbon deep to win. CASTRO OVER OMIR! Omir drives in every Met run, wins game! EPIC FAIL.

So is Murphy benched now?
Probably won’t start tomorrow vs. C.C., right? Is Sabathia making the start tomorrow? Does Manuel know Murphy and Evans are two different people and not a new switch hitter?

Kevin Burkhardt is calling the game?
I suppose it’s just as well. He likes calling the game more than giving updates, anyway.

Random Socks Tangent
Stokes was throwing a 95-96 mph fastball and a 80-82 mph change-up last night. That has to be a good thing if he disguises it well, right? I think his K-rate will come way up soon.

To be fair
It was a fastball middle/away, perfect location to hit it to LF like Luis likes to do. With Carpenter pitching, you don’t have many pitches like that in an AB.

I have a feeling it’s a matter of time before he hits the DL.

But I’m not surprised that he’s from MO. He likely grew up rooting for the Cardinals. I have to say Nick Evans
Has a much better swing than Murphy. (and better defence) Just seems like a much better overall player.
by Outside Observer on Jun 25, 2009 2:23 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
absolutely
Murphy has a great approach. But in my opinion a slower bat. Its almost like a power hitter approach with a singles hitter.
Evans has a quicker bat. He is learning the approach. I dunno how you speed up a swing. something you are born with or steroids.
by Outside Observer on Jun 25, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would agree
Except murph’s P/PA is way down this year. Not showing nearly the patience that endeared him to us last year.
by TBlz on Jun 25, 2009 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
IMO Murphy is guessing more
To start the swing quicker to hit for more power. Because I think even he realises that there is no point in a great approach if you can’t hit for power. You could be a Castillo and bat lead-off but thats no good cause Murphy doesn’t have the speed.
Thats why I think Evans has much more potential. Because his is swing is better. He can always learn the approach.

It always seemed like an exaggerated case of the telephone game. No one I read ever called him a below average CF from a tools and instincts point of view. No one said he was stellar, but no one said he was bad either. They just all assumed he was going to fill out eventually and lose a step, which is still possible at 20, but he’s much quicker than I thought he was.

Big strides and steady acceleration. As opposed to Jose Reyes, who runs like an infielder, in that he gets low and takes smaller choppier steps and who really explodes with his acceleration and tops out and levels off quicker.

Either way
no excuse to allow Carpenter these 5-6 pitch innings.
Even more of a reason that these guys are AAA players to make them take a patient approach at the plate. Wait on your pitch.

haven't been able to watch the game
how’s Santana looking? From the boxscore it looks like Carpenter has been more effective except for one inning, but Santana has limited the damage. These are two of my 3 favorite pitchers in baseball, so I’m glad both are pitching well today.

That's basically it
Carpenter has been amazing except for that one inning (in which most of the hits were fluky/lucky). But no complaints here.

Wow
Feliciano has had a long strange journey – I was just looking at his transaction history on Baseball-reference. Drafted by the Dodgers, released, signed by the Reds, traded to the Mets for Shawn Estes, claimed off waivers by the Tigers, released, re-signed with the Mets, purchased by Fukuoka of the Japanese League where he played for a year, re-signed with the Mets again, and now he’s 7th in career pitching appearances, 12 behind Armando Benitez. And the list ahead of him is a who’s who of Mets relievers + Seaver & Koosman.

wow
that was too close. Still, great win, great series. Proof that Reyes and Beltran are just losers*
*sarcasm, but you know that’s gonna be the MSM take

Been there
done that. Worst time was when I did it on the Castillo pop up game…and then all hell broke loose.

Harrowing experience all 9 innings
but we made it out victorious and that’s what counts!

Actually win a series after losing the last 4!

NL Central
With Pujols himself held HR-less…He pretty much did nothing all 4 games. One measly 2RBI single.

I'm gonna go out on a limb
and say that’s why we took 3 of 4. It’s like holding Lebron under 20 points – you do that, you’re probably gonna win the game.

Well, not anymore
LeBron has Shaq!

They just need to hang in there
I thought we were dead with all these guys out looking at our June Sched. This is the worst month in our sched.
After three game set with the Yankees it’s smooth sailing the rest of the way.
Yeah, I wanna knock those Phils out. Just hang in long enough till Reyes, Maine, Delgaod and Beltran come back.

This one of the rare occasions
I will use my MLB.TV subscription to watch a team other than the Mets. Living in Texas makes it hard to follow any NY team.
GO RAYS!!!
