Wtf is up with Reyes 2nd?
great idea Jerry, put the guy least likely to get on base in front of our best hitter.
Alex Cora batting leadoff...
Is proof that Jerry has no idea what the hell is going on:
Cora is 0-19 in his career against Burnett with 7 K’s
He is hitting .130 over the last 7 days and .210 in June
Does that sound like someone who should be leading off to you?
So to recap, we have a guy who cannot hit the guy who is pitching for the opposition and a guy who cannot hit any guy ever unless it is in AAA, batting 1st and 2nd???
Ladies and gentleman, your 2009 New York Mets!
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
To be fair
Cora has generally done a good job of getting on base this season. 0-for-19 is bad, but it’s still just four or five games. Also, look at the rest of the lineup: only one guy can bat eighth, after all.
Except that guy is debatedly the hottest bat in the lineup sans David Wright.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
But combined with the fact that he is in a deep slump, it was a poor day to give Castillo a rest.
Argenis could give us better defense at short and give Cora a break that he really needs against a guy that he has not done well against.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Remember before he came back Cora said he wouldn't be able to play everyday.
Perhaps that might explain his slump.
Sure...the guy has a mutant hand and is playing out of necessity.
He’s also not an everyday player and has generally done a good job. I don’t blame him, I blame the dullard in the dugout.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
reyes batting 2nd?
and why no evens in in LF.sometimes i think jerry wants us to lose
by JADDENHOPKINS on Jun 27, 2009 6:41 PM EDT reply actions
I just don't get what is so difficult...
Castillo 2B
Murphy 1B
Wright 3B
Church RF
Sheffield LF
Schneider C
Reed CF
A. Reyes SS
Redding P
Write it on a piece of paper, give it to the ump, sit in dugout giving Redding dirty looks when he walks people. Very simple…
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
That lineup isn't much better
King of the bling come to lay down the evidence//Not George Bush, L-Millz be da president
Replacing a guy who is slumping and a guy who is a AAA player at the top of the order is pretty important.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
you're still putting Murphy in the most important spot
not to mention, Reed is playing in that lineup
King of the bling come to lay down the evidence//Not George Bush, L-Millz be da president
I'm just taking what Jerry did and replacing Cora with Castillo
and getting the two people least likely to succeed out of the 1-2 hole.
Unfortunately, there is not much we can do. Redding isn’t a ground ball pitcher and after yesterday, we may won’t to go with a more “defensive” line-up.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
reed?
a rather have church in CF sheff in RF and evens in LF
by JADDENHOPKINS on Jun 27, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Church, Evans, Sheff would be a horrible defensive outfield
It can work for Pelfrey since he’s such a GB pitcher, but redding needs some outfield defense to have a chance.
Gah
C’mon, Redding.

I'm calling BS on Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez
I’m sick of hearing the old gatekeepers for the old players. What legitimate proof is there that the players now aren’t throwing as hard as Nolan Ryan?
I think it has to do with the fact that a pitcher would put a MF'er in a headlock and pound him until he cried.

That always seem to be the question asked by those who refuse to realize that Manuel never pulls his pitchers when it’s clear they are gassed.
Manuel can not manage his starting staff.
He even admitted in Newsday that he mismanaged the pen.
How was it clear the pitcher was gassed?
I hate Jerry, but there is no way to blame him for that inning. Redding was pitching REALLY well, and it went downhill on 4 pitches. Jerry could not have done anything.

by MetsFan4Decades on Jun 27, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions
He was up to about 95 pitches or so to start the inning. Redding, if you’re lucky, you get about 85 before he loses it. His stamina is not that high.
Anyone else with a brain and knowing Redding would have had the Pen warming before the start of that inning.
Manuel has no clue. Redding was gassed and gave that last inning before he was yanked all he had.
Ok so let me get this straight
You are in the boat that wants to get someone up in a bullpen that has already been overused this season just in case something happens?
Despite the pitcher looking very solid through the first 5 innings and only allowing 1 run, on an opposite field home run no less, you still want to get the guy up in the bullpen in case something happens. Isn’t this the same croud this gets mad a Jerry for taking Santana out at 110 pitches? Now your mad for not taking Redding out sooner? I just don’t get it.
I am in the club that says get rid of Jerry but this is by no means on the Gangsta.
"We have to find a way to play better, there's no doubt. Overall. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Offense, defense, pitching -- we have to find a way to play better. The reality of this is, coming here to Pittsburgh and being swept -- personally, I feel embarrassed." -- Carlos Beltran
Lemme see if I have this correct?
Are you telling me you honestly think Redding is good for more than 95 pitches?
Today?
Yes. He had held the potent Yankee lineup to next to nothing.
Now if he had given up 3 runs in a 3-2 game ect ect, no I would have pinch hit for him in the fifth.
If you go solely on pitch count then your bullpen will be crap by the end of the year. You have to leave your starters in when they are rolling. Nobody could have predicted 4 runs on 4 hits on 4 pitches.
To say that you can predict the four runs is beyond the pale.
To say that a guy entering an inning with about 95 pitches who normally goes 85, is going to lose it, is easy to predict.
Look at all the games the Mets have blown and look at the 6th and 7th inning. Thats where the most damage is done to us.
Redding rarely goes more then 85-90 pitches before he’s gassed. At that point you have to have some one in the pen ready to go.
It’s a constant pattern with Manuel.
What'd he pull some reliever out of the crowd?
Who the hell is this guy, I don’t recognize him. Did he replace Sticks or something?

Jerry’s doesn’t have a whole lot of choices with what’s left on this team. We all know Castillo wasn’t playing 162 games. We have no Jose, so Cora has to play short. Doesn’t leave a lot of options. Could have put Tatis at short but not like he’s hitting either.

Stokes is awesome, let's never use him again
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
i wonder where this would end up on the list of all-time worst Junes in Mets history
The win loss record doesn’t capture the futility. After today they will be a misleading 9-14. Dropping 6 of 8 series. Outscored something like 97-125. Giving up 9 or more runs 5 times. It feels worse.

I hear ya.
Although as a fan for over 40 years, there have been way worse seasons, let alone Junes…

sure bt
depending on how you measure, this might rank somewhere. For instance some knuckleheads in the national media picked these chumps to go to the WS. Then there’s the sheer magnitude of injuries and the fact that all but two stars are on the DL.

Art Howe had a worse team than this
2004 — Reyes, Matsui and Cameron all went down.
Gerald Williams, Wilson Delgado, Todd Zeile, Joe McEwing and Jason Phillips played everyday.

matsui?
that’s debatable. Reyes, Beltran, Putz > Reyes Matsui Kam. This team is in the Art Howe neighborhood is all I’m saying.

Damn
sorry Murph!
This has been a bad day. You just can’t buy a hit. Robbed thrice! Yeesh. Jerry will look at your line and say: “Well, ya failed to get a hit so your hand isn’t all that hot, your benched.”

This is brutal.
I freakin hate losing to the yanks. I losing to anyone but it really sucks when you see the team that beat you’s fans everyday.

I never thought I'd say this but
I want two runs here to make it a save situation so we can see Mariano Rivera. Who’d a thunk I’d be wishing to see him?

Freaking pathetic
How can anyone say that we don’t need a bat and that we will survive this?
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Because even if we went out and got a bat NOW
we would be in the EXACT same place we were before Beltran went down. Stillrelying on solid starting pitching and timely hitting to win games.
Why waste the future of the team for the now that isn’t all that spectacular and one bat can’t change that, no matter how you slice it.

Yup.
Because it’s impossible to plug all the holes now. Just have to ride it out until the party starts to return from the DL.
by MetsFan4Decades on Jun 27, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions
what party?
carlos might be gone for the season.reyes might not ever be the same and who knows what is wrong with beltran’s knee’s
by JADDENHOPKINS on Jun 27, 2009 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions
And Delgado might be back in August and Beltran and Reyes might be back after the ASB and be fine. No way to know. If you trade the farm for 2 bats and they are back and ready to go, you’ve got a logjam at those positions.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
by MetsFan4Decades on Jun 27, 2009 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions
I'm not saying waste the future.
Go out and get a Huff or DeRosa or someone to hold us over and give us some production. Both players are useful after all return from injury and it shouldn’t cost us any of our top 5 prospects.
I’d feel a lot better if we were in the situation before Beltran went down…we haven’t done shit since.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
I'm all for acquiring a salary dump type dude
But trading a dude like Gee or Antonini for a marginal upgrade isn’t the best use of resources.
