Phew. One less potential bad move to worry about.

Indians look to have done well here.
They dump a superfluous and expensive player for a legit prospect and a (supposedly) valuable PTBNL.

Now that it’s done with, what’s actually next?

Wow we corner the market in x-Marts, but the only thing we don’t have is an S-Mart. How could this be? Bruce Campbell be damned!

This could've easily been Mejia
So something good did happen to the Mets today/

Mejia should be as close to untouchable as it gets.

In other news
our friend Joey August got his second start with Brooklyn tonight, but went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
Also, Brad Holy gave up five runs on three hits and two walks in one-third of an inning. Bleah.

Jesus...
If those are the costs, we’re screwed. That’s like Niese-quality (and probably better) plus another good prospect.
I like DeRo, but that’s nuts for 2 months of him.

And the PTBNL is probably quite good, in addition to Chris Perez (who's a great prospect as well)

I wouldn't exactly call him a great prospect
His career FIP in over 65 innings in the majors is 4.38, making him pretty much replacement level. His fastball velocity has also declined by nearly 2 MPH this year compared to last, and his control has gotten worse. I’m glad the Cards were able to get something of value for him, especially given their rediculous depth of RH relievers.

Ok, well, put it this way.
He would be at least a top 5 prospect in our system, I would think.

Yeah, I know.
Well, actually…now that I think about it…he at least would have been prior to the season. But with the way Mejia, Holt, Thole, and Havens have played (among others)…I don’t think so anymore. But he’s a better relief prospect than Parnell, at least.

Sorry
Chris Perez looks more like Bobby Parnell than John Niese to me. Maybe even Eddie Kunz.
The upshot for Cleveland is that at 34, Derosa won’t be all that great for that much longer, but still…this is more meh than anything else.
Although the fact that the name isn’t Mejia is very comforting.

Chris Perez>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Eddie Kunz
but yea starters are more valuable, so Niese is better

I was speaking in terms of quality. Perez is a better prospect (at least I think so) than Parnell or Kunz.

You would be right.
Parnell is nothing to sneeze at, and Kunz still has some value…I think. But Perez is a legit future closer.

The Kunz thing was a bit of a stretch...
I just recall the “closer stuff needs command” rap with Kunz as well. Parnell is the better comparison, though if Cris Perez is indeed a top-flight relief ace in the making, then yes, he’s more valuable than Niese.

Or at least as valuable.
Depending on how Niese pans out. As a mid rotation star, Niese is more valuable. But as a fringe 5 starter, than yes, I’d say so.
