Livan's line against current Yankees:

.405/.455/.739 including 9 homeruns in 111 ABs. And yet, I fully expect the Mets to win this one.

Am I seeing things

or is that Daniel Murphy leading off? We’re sure that it isn’t Cora-Murphy 1-2?

OK, let's try to salvage this series

and keep Wang from actually winning a game. I have no idea why Murph is leading off, and the lineup sucks in general, but oh well!

How does Murphy justify staying the big leagues

His hitting does not make up for absolutely poor decision making and defence.

I don’t understand where is this potential ppl keep on talking up?

dropped a simple double play as well. just horrible.

by Outside Observer on Jun 28, 2009 8:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

it makes livans pitches pressurised as well

means he will be out 5/6 innings and that will tax the bullpen for the next 2/3 games.

Evans has to start ahead of murphy.

murphy isn't getting better

he is a very good pinch hitter.

i think his bat is too slow for power hitting. his approach requires a quick bat.

by Outside Observer on Jun 28, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't disagree that ultimately, he's a good bench player.

But you can’t judge his progression and say he’s NOT GETTING ANY BETTER OMG without any real proof.

"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw

by squid92 on Jun 28, 2009 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK let me explain

I think the reason why Murphy has a good approach is because he lets the ball get a little deeper.

That means if its a strike he needs a fast bat to drive the ball.

Because I think his bat is slow he is only consistently able to go the other way. Teams have recognised that and are playing him that way. So to adjust he has been guessing. Thats meant he is not as patient as he was before. Taking away one of his main positive attributes.

So I think the coaches are a bit stuck on how to develop him. Thats why I said he has not improved.

Thats why I think he has even ended up batting lead-off. Where do you play a hitter whose approach is that of a power hitter without the power?

Ohhh.

Wright’s been robbed of 6 HRs in Citi Field alone that would have been out at Shea. That would give him 10 HRs. That’s not exactly world beater pace, and off his mark, but much more in line with a traditional “higher average, less power” fluctuation that would regulate to the mean.

very true

the Islander might have a future tho with Tavares…tho it may be in KC.

We’ll see on the Rangers. They manage to steal Heatley they have the D and the King to contend with.

We'll see

if he’s the real thing – everyone scores on the OHL. And the Rangers have at least 3-4 yrs of mediocrity ahead of them. Basically until Redden/Drury/Gomez/Roszival are off the cap.

by Zwill on Jun 28, 2009 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tavares is the real deal

He’s got that can’t miss tag on him from everyone. Except some of the bitter press up in Toronto who are upset he’s not a leaf.

He’s gonna look good next to Okposo.

In all fairness

The Rangers have had the better team. Lundqvist is a world class goalie. Mainly its all him.

They are very blessed to have that guy.

The Isles have decided to build through the draft so it’s gonna be a while before they are up there. At least they are closer to being in contention than any point in the last 15 years.

Beats blowing a 3-1 lead in the first round when you are supposed to be CONTENDING.

I can’t believe what a fiasco that’s become with him.

I think the goalie they drafted out of Finland is supposed to be top notch.

yes

but again, not against AL closers. There’s no excuse for Frankie not to just pump fastballs down the middle there – MAKE Rivera beat you. In my mind, that’s on Frankie 100%

I'm in the middle of moving

just turned my TV back on in time to see this inning – WTF. How in the hell do you walk a guy with 2 career at-bats???

Although, it probably should be noted that this inning is over if the Mets could catch pop ups to middle infielders in the 9th inning against the Yankees

A positive way to look at this season

It’s really the most “Mets-like” season in recent memory. In 20 years we can tell our kids about the time Castillo dropped a pop-up or Frankie walked an American League closer with the bases loaded in much the same way our parents told us about Marvelous Marv.

by cjmulrain on Jun 28, 2009 11:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't forget...

We lost a game because Church missed 3B with no play at the plate. And Beltran decided not to slide a couple times and Castillo decided to collapse into 2B…

The 2009 Amazin' Avenue: SCREW K-ROD, SIGN FUENTES! Check it out, K-Rod ERA under 1.00, Fuentes over 5.00. CASTILLO MUST GO! Castillo is hitting .300!! DON'T SIGN SHEFFIELD! Sheffield has been a great signing. OMIR WHO? Omir grand slam! OMIR SUCKS! Omir takes Papelbon deep to win. CASTRO OVER OMIR! Omir drives in every Met run, wins game! EPIC FAIL.

I just don't understand how that was even a decision.

If you walk him, one of two things happen:

1.) You get to a guy with 1 career at bat
2.) Girardi lifts the best closer ever to get a bat in there (which would never happen)

What the fucking problem????

They had Warthen go out there like there was something to say. Even Cora came in from short to tell Frankie what to do.

Ridiculous…

I think you mean 03

Gagne had a better K/9 (15.0 to 12.83) but Rivera had a better WHIP, better K/BB, & better ERA+. I’m not saying Rivera’s was definitely the best ever, but it’s certainly the most underrapreciated – hell, Frankie and Lidge got all the press last year, but Mo was better than both of them (by a lot, really). It’s just become so ordinary for him to be awesome that you don’t even notice when he’s awesome even by his own standards
