Livan's line against current Yankees:
.405/.455/.739 including 9 homeruns in 111 ABs. And yet, I fully expect the Mets to win this one.
well, after
31 PAs on Friday and 30 PAs on Saturday, it can only get better, right?
OK, let's try to salvage this series
and keep Wang from actually winning a game. I have no idea why Murph is leading off, and the lineup sucks in general, but oh well!

Crap! I forgot about Steve Phillips!
I messed up on the swag. I would never have gone with more than 4 innings if I knew Steve Phillips was broadcasting.
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa
"he pitches whenever you give him the ball"
thanks joe

It always makes me happy to turn on the TV and already see...
someone at 2nd with no out. Crap…

WTF MURPH

God, I hate him.

Hi, I'm a Mets infielder
I like giving runs away!

So the best thing for the defense is to get the sure out
And offenses should be sac bunting. Does anyone else see the inconsistency?

it's consistent
Jerry doesn’t care about giving up the out, and doesn’t care about getting the out.

Thankfully, Chien Ming Wang is going to give up 18 runs today.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Ian Snell, making his first start since being demoted...
struck out 17 batters in 7 innings.
Buy low?
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
He asked to be demoted because he couldn't handle the pressure.
Yes, let’s bring him to New York.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
his FIP is 4.57
he has a shitty W-L and such
it wasn’t pressure. it was blah pitching compounded by useless stats that wrongly indicated he pitched even worse
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
No, no, I agree.
W-L is bullshit. But he LITERALLY asked to be demoted. Like, he wasn’t going to be demoted…but he asked to be.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
well, that might have been the nice way the pirates went about doing it
or maybe he wanted to work on his mechanics and such and didn’t feel like possibly costing his team a game by doing so
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
No, literally, he asked to be sent down due to pressure.
MP3 of Ian Snell explaining his demotion.
Honestly? He sounds mentally fried. “I’m not your pal. Not your pal…pal…”

thank you Daniel Murphy
for turning this into a big inning
oh and livan

And I was thinking that maybe they’d have an out by now.

This game is going to be 10-8
I’m not worried.

wait, wait wait
Yankees, who have an offense of like a billion dollars and no crushing injuries, score runs?
oh, and wait, our team, which has a billion dollars worth od DL, sucks?
i’m shocked.
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
The good news if they're down 12-0 after this inning
is that we don’t have to listen to Phillips/Morgan anymore. Silver lining people!
How does Murphy justify staying the big leagues
His hitting does not make up for absolutely poor decision making and defence.
I don’t understand where is this potential ppl keep on talking up?
dropped a simple double play as well. just horrible.
by Outside Observer on Jun 28, 2009 8:21 PM EDT reply actions
it makes livans pitches pressurised as well
means he will be out 5/6 innings and that will tax the bullpen for the next 2/3 games.
Evans has to start ahead of murphy.

GAH LET'S OVERREACT AND PULL MURPHY FROM PLAYING FIRST BASE
REPEAT THE FIRST BASE EXPERIMENT IS OVER THE FIRST BASE EXPERIMENT IS OVER
-Omar Minaya
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
it wouldn't be an overreaction, really
we all know his bat doesn’t play there anyway.
Well, yeah.
But it would be stupid in the sense that he’s probably our best option there right now. Better him than Fernando “Cleanup hitter” Tatis.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
Evans probably should never play righties, ideally.
And I’d personally like F!, Murph, and Evans to be sharing time at the two positions when Sheff is playing and all playing when he isn’t.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
murphy isn't getting better
he is a very good pinch hitter.
i think his bat is too slow for power hitting. his approach requires a quick bat.
by Outside Observer on Jun 28, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't disagree that ultimately, he's a good bench player.
But you can’t judge his progression and say he’s NOT GETTING ANY BETTER OMG without any real proof.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
I don't disagree that Murph is ultimately a very good bench player. I've always thought that.
But you can’t say he’s NOT GETTING ANY BETTER as a decided fact without any real evidence.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
OK let me explain
I think the reason why Murphy has a good approach is because he lets the ball get a little deeper.
That means if its a strike he needs a fast bat to drive the ball.
Because I think his bat is slow he is only consistently able to go the other way. Teams have recognised that and are playing him that way. So to adjust he has been guessing. Thats meant he is not as patient as he was before. Taking away one of his main positive attributes.
So I think the coaches are a bit stuck on how to develop him. Thats why I said he has not improved.
Thats why I think he has even ended up batting lead-off. Where do you play a hitter whose approach is that of a power hitter without the power?

It is clear to me that throughout this organization there is a shortage of attention to

Wright’s been robbed of 6 HRs in Citi Field alone that would have been out at Shea. That would give him 10 HRs. That’s not exactly world beater pace, and off his mark, but much more in line with a traditional “higher average, less power” fluctuation that would regulate to the mean.

It’s really the most “Mets-like” season in recent memory. In 20 years we can tell our kids about the time Castillo dropped a pop-up or Frankie walked an American League closer with the bases loaded in much the same way our parents told us about Marvelous Marv.

Gagne had a better K/9 (15.0 to 12.83) but Rivera had a better WHIP, better K/BB, & better ERA+. I’m not saying Rivera’s was definitely the best ever, but it’s certainly the most underrapreciated – hell, Frankie and Lidge got all the press last year, but Mo was better than both of them (by a lot, really). It’s just become so ordinary for him to be awesome that you don’t even notice when he’s awesome even by his own standards
And he has the best plate discipline of any closer...ever.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Check out Mo's 96, 97, and 04 seasons.
Even more impressive.

and he's supposedly on the decline
at least according to the genius NY media,

What a tease
He’ll be closing out horrifying losses 10 years from now.

He's supposed to be a great guy
I hate that he’s a good guy… makes it harder to hate
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
Yup
See my above posts.
I want to hate him so much…but I can’t. His personality seems so un-Yankeeesque.

Oh, but according to Francessa
the Mets are getting their leadership from Cora.
that was fun
not really

Glad this series is over.
I don’t feel terrible. It wasn’t a fair Subway fight. Just need to move on and I think we’ll play better against some NL teams. We can score 3 runs maybe.
The 2009 Amazin' Avenue: SCREW K-ROD, SIGN FUENTES! Check it out, K-Rod ERA under 1.00, Fuentes over 5.00. CASTILLO MUST GO! Castillo is hitting .300!! DON'T SIGN SHEFFIELD! Sheffield has been a great signing. OMIR WHO? Omir grand slam! OMIR SUCKS! Omir takes Papelbon deep to win. CASTRO OVER OMIR! Omir drives in every Met run, wins game! EPIC FAIL.
we have Omir, Sheff, Castillo, and K-Rod
so, per your sig, we should be winning.
How did we let Chien-Ming Wang win his first game?
He sucks.

that’s my analysis

He does.
Mets suck worse right now. Not even 10 hits total this weekend.
I want to be mad at the Mets
but strangely, I keep just hating the Phillies – why do they also have to suck, to give me false hope? If the Phillies hadn’t just gone like 1-10, I would have given up on this season. But noooo, the Phillies are gonna keep us close till the very end. Fucking bastards
True
Seriously, how are we still in this? We were at .500 at this point in like, 2004.

The worst possible scenario is the Mets missing the playoffs by one game
and with all the injuries, people will say what a magnificent job Manuel did to get us that close.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
Oh, man
That would be the worst. I can just imagine the crawl on ESPN: “Jerry Manuel named NL Manager of the Year…Jerry Manuel signed to 3-year extension.”

That would give me nightmares

F! doubled
didn’t see it but must’ve been nice
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
it was, but his big strike outs weren't
he swings at high pitches and it way overmatched in the bigs
Bright Side:
Wilmer and Marte each with 2 hits
Havens had a double and 2 walks in 5 at bats between a double header
Thole 1-3 with 2 walks
Ike 1-4 with a walk
Tejada 2-3 with a walk
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
Someone said it recently, can't remember who but it was great
Something like “it’s more fun to follow the Mets minor leagues than the Mets”. I think I’ll be making a lot of trips to see the Cyclones this year.

whoa, that was weird
when I posted, my “I’ve said it before…” post was before yours, but when I reloaded the page, now it’s after. Strange…

agreed
I used to comment on the game threads at Metsblog – having to hit reload every few seconds and scroll through to find my comments was possibly the only thing more irritating than the Mets
Listening to Stu Scott do soccer highlights
is a close 3rd on the “most irritating” list.

I've said it before, I'll say it again
Mets Farm system >>>>> Mets ML team, at least in terms of the enjoyment I get from following them
good stuff, maybe someday we'll have a nice core of young good players
oh, wait a second….
Where is Dallas Green when needed?
Lopez wants it away, and it's hit deep to left center, Andruw Jones on the run, this one has a chance... home run!!, Mike Piazza!, and the Mets lead 3 to 2!!
