Swept Applesauce - Healthy Perez, Hurting Maine, Mark Teahen to Mets?, Adam Dunn can hit it out of anywhere
Meet the Mets
Let's look at the good news: Oliver Perez walked only 1 batter in 5 innings in Brooklyn and striking out 6. As for our other projected starting pitcher, John Maine was shut down again after a setback in his rehab.
Ralph Kiner was quite the player. Oh, and bring back Kiner's Korner in reruns.
The Mets have now walked the opposing pitcher 13 times this season. Thank you Francisco. Metsradamus's predictions are suddenly looking less awful.
"Barack Obama" threw out the first pitch at the Baracklyn Cyclones game.
Lance Broadway gave up 7 runs in 5 innings last night. Brad Holt went 1/3 of an inning and gave up 5 runs.
The Met lineup gets embarrassed by a below average pitching staff, let's fire the hitting coach. Or get Mark Teahen.
Jose Reyes is jogging, but warns he's not close to a return. Met games just haven't been the same without him.
Keith Law throws some water on Fernando-mania and Jenrry Mejia.
Some big names have garnered Met attention: Cliff Lee and Garret Atkins.
Around the NL East

Ken Rosenthal's report of Manny Acta's demise may have come a little prematurely.
Charlie Manuel will most likely return Jimmy Rollins to the lineup and the leadoff spot tomorrow.
If you couldn't get enough of Casey from KC & The Sunshine Band on American Idol, he will be performing at the Landshark Stadium after the Marlin game on the 4th of July.

The Braves continue to leave Javier Vazquez out to dry.
Young Brave pitcher Tommy Hanson continues to impress.
Chipper hopes that his home run on Sunday will help him break out of a 10 for 60 slump.
An unidentified Philadelphia player was involved in a confrontation with a Tampa Ray fan.

From the Phillies article,
“Whether we’re trying too hard to make things happen, I don’t know,” [Victorino] said. “I can’t put my finger on it. What do you do? You just keep playing . . . we’re not going to make any excuses. Maybe we need to relax. Maybe we need a gut check.”

He’s just trying to throw the Mets off the scent… it’s gut checks and no-excuse-making that win ballgames. For serious.

John Pavano Maine should hire someone to walk him around
so he doesn’t trip on a sidewalk and get hurt again.

T-E-A-H-E-N
Also, he’s not much better than what we have and he’d probably cost too much.

I agree with this comment from the article though
I’d like to see Teahan in left field or anywhere really, as long as he takes Fernando Tatis’ roster spot.
Tatis isn’t a good major leaguer right now. he really provides very little. Teahan would be an upgrade over Tatis as long as the price is right.

I can't imagine the price it even close to right for Teahen
but yea, tatis is worthless

yes
However, I am officially okay with slightly overpaying for any of the Moneyball players. My dream is that Hatteberg, Youkilis, and Teahen will someday find themselves in the same lineup. Or at least found the coolest-named law firm ever.

Clarify
Not my dream for the best possible Mets OF based on on-field performance. It’s my dream OF for comedy reasons.

I guess that's true
but “if the price is right” is a pretty big proviso

That’s my out in case Omar does something really stupid.

Perez should get called up
Start him next time he’s available, while his confidence is somewhat high after this start. It’s a gamble, but what do they have to lose at this point? I’m so tired of seeing Tim Redding (aka Brian Lawrence 2.0).
Teahan reminds me of Mankiewicz, and that’s not a good thing.

perez?
if niese has another good start i would rather see him make the start instead of redding

The Clones actually have a competitive team this year
In that they have lots and lots of players way too old for the NYPL lol. They’re a much less exciting team to the hardcore Mets Farm junkie, but to the casual fan who just wants to go down to Keyspan and watch a game they should be able to make the games interesting.
But yeah, this pretty much just meant Ollie dominated a bunch of second or third year former HS draftees and IFAs and maybe a few of the two year college picks who already signed.

I'm assuming you mean Doug Mientkiewicz?
I’m not really seeing the similarity, other than that both are white infielders whose last names are often misspelled.

JC Romero was the guy involved in the fan incident in Tampa.

Went to the Cyclones game last night
A few observations about our friend Ollie.
I was curious about his velocity but could only use my amateur eyes. I think the radar display is on the OF wall by the bullpen, which I couldn’t see from my bleacher seats. His fastball “looked” fast, particularly high in the strike zone, missing bats. You could hear the ball pop in the catcher’s mitt too but that’s hardly any worthwile evidence.
His command was sadly not impressive but it also wasn’t terrible. He only walked one batter but he threw some of those classic way out of the zone pitches. Perez looked like a difficult pitcher to catch. However, that same wildness made him hard to hit too.
In the end , Ollie was effectively wild and made the Hudson Valley Renegades look sad at the plate, which is what a major league pitcher is supposed to do to low A hitters.

The Phillies player in the confrontation was JC Romero
Someone asked him for some “juice”, and Romero assaulted him.

13 walks to the opposing pitcher through 74 games
They’re on pace to break the team record, set by the ’62 team (26).

Mark Teahen and Garrett Atkins
DO NOT WANT
Keith Law amuses me. “I haven’t seen him, but there’s this guy not with the organization anymore who hasn’t done well so far, so I’m going to be cautious about Mejia.”

I once had a dog
and I could never get the dog to be housebroken. So, I’m going to assume my friend’s new dog can’t be trained either, because mine would not be housebroken. It’s science.

The Sauce
Adam Dunn – Yep. The fella can hit, but he can’t field worth a darn.
Obama’s pitch – Interesting. Considering he didn’t even bother to throw out the first pitch at the Nationals home opener.
