So....

why are two of the Mets’ three worst hitters batting #1 and #2? This lineup would score more runs in reverse.

by Eric Simon on Jun 29, 2009 6:12 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

I have no idea why Castillo doesn't always lead off

And seriously, at this point, Brian Schneider should bat 5th or 6th. It’s that bad that he’s a rock in the lineup.

Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.

From Adam Rubin

“Reyes is batting leadoff, which Manuel joked was partly because he liked that name atop the order.”

Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.

Great that he thinks it's funny

Just because we have some injuries don’t mean we should quit.

Perhaps if you want management to go out and get you some players, you should prove to them that you know how to manage them.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.

Slow down there Eric

Jerry’s only allowed to make one or two corrections a month. David Wright is batting in the top half of the order. That happened in June right? Lets wait until July before we expect him to realize Argenis Reyes sucks. ::facepalm::

Jerry is stupidly sticking with his Cora leadoff against righties, Luis against lefties.

even though cora is not even playing tonight, Jerry just remembers positions.

if he is why not put evans in LF.and why is a-ray leading off

this is bad

but I am not really sure its any worse than the others. At this point its like trying to find the best deck chair on the Titanic. Wait till the make up game against the Pirates when Wright will be given a day off.

Someone please explain to me Evans can’t sneak into this lineup over someone? I’d rather have him in left, Church in CF and Sheff in RF. No need for Fmart again.

if the Mets give him time, Murphy could be an at least decent defender at a few positions (first, left, second).
But, it doesn’t matter unless he starts hitting the ball harder.

Too bad

you hate one of the 5 best regular players this team has ever had.

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Plus

the whole team is batting under .200 with the bases loaded.

Wright is batting .341 with runners in scoring position. Is that no good because it doesn’t fit your point?

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you believe in him...

more power to you. He’s 26. And he has 4 HRs. That fits my point pretty well.

Personally, I’m sick of him choking and coming up small every year.

He seems like a nice guy, but certainly not a winner.

by Mex_17 on Jun 29, 2009 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can hate

anyone you want. And I can like anyone I like. I prefer to like the players that are some the of the best the franchise has produced.

Where you think you are getting players I don’t know.

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agree to disagree...

Wright had the potential to be one of the 5 best. Those days are going real fast. What you see is what you get.

I wish he was as great as his potential said he was going to be.

But that’s cool if you like him. I wish I did. I can’t stand the sight of him, but I’m afraid we’re stuck with him forever because he’s the “face of the franchise”.

by Mex_17 on Jun 29, 2009 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right. Should we just ignore the fact that he had a slash line of .352/.432/.602 in September 2007, and .340/.416/.577 in September last year?

You’re argument is a facetious one with no factual basis.

by ljshorty89 on Jun 29, 2009 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok.

I guess Wright is Mr. Clutch. I just didn’t realize it.

It’s a moot point anyway, he’s going nowhere.

by Mex_17 on Jun 29, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fine

trade the whole fucking team. And then what do you have?

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What do we have now?

We’re not exactly a dynasty you know.

I don’t want to argue. You like Wright. I don’t. No harm done.

by Mex_17 on Jun 29, 2009 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know

people don’t like Wright. What I don’t understand is who they want? Braun, Longoria? They are not coming here.

Who do you want in his place that you could realistically get?

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My argument?

That I like him?

Ok, what about the facts that he has a career .921 ops? Or the fact that he is the best 3b in team history?

Who the fuck do you want?

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Whoever you think

you’re getting, you’re not!

by blains2000 on Jun 29, 2009 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I owe

ljshorty an apology. This team has everyone on edge.

I'm at peace with this year.

At least there’s no collapse.

by Mex_17 on Jun 29, 2009 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hey, you know who didn't collapse down the stretch in 2007?

David Wright OPSed 1.172 in August 2007 and 1.034 in September 2007

by JoshNY on Jun 29, 2009 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wright has NOTHING hitting behind him. He bats in a spot that’s always been a sore point for anyone hitting there. The 6/7/8 hitters don’t exactly scare anyone. Last season there were many situation with no outs or one out that opposing pitchers walked Wright and got out of jams pitching to people behind him.

David Wright gets nothing but garbage pitched to work with. Nobody is gonna throw a lot of strikes because there’s nothing to do damage behind him if he walks.

It’s been that way since they traded Nady in 06. At lest with Nady we had a bat to fear at the bottomof the lineup and you had no choice but to pitch to everyone.

Anyone still here

"We have to find a way to play better, there's no doubt. Overall. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Offense, defense, pitching -- we have to find a way to play better. The reality of this is, coming here to Pittsburgh and being swept -- personally, I feel embarrassed." -- Carlos Beltran

Wow, the Mets are finally making a game of it here in the 9th, and…oh. ’night!

Screw this team and getting my hopes up

Thank god I went out and did something tonight

Season=slipping away. I fear we might be done by the time the weekend with the Phils is thru

I have an odd feeling about the Phillies series

but I think I’ll start ignoring some games as well. It’s just brutal.

Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.

by Preach19 on Jun 29, 2009 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right...

But at this point, it won’t matter. Even if they sweep the Phillies, who cares? This team is completely done.

We’re all basically in the same mode as Royals’ fans now. Watching games just to waste time, and taking solace in stealing a win against superior teams now and then.

Firing Manuel...

I don’t care how bad Jerry is. I don’t care if he bats Omir leadoff, and Argenis cleanup.

The next firing MUST be Omar, bar none. After that, fire whoever you want.

No way Jerry should be next to be fired. All of this is on Omar, nobody else. The “fire the manager” deal is old, it’s been done already, and it’s just a smoke screen at this point.

by Mex_17 on Jun 29, 2009 10:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I want the whole regime cleaned out

but really, Manuel has no clue how to manage his pitching staff. He even admits publicly that he’s mismanaged the bullpen. The starters come to the park and don’t look prepared to pitch on any given day.

Even Santana. a two time Cy Young winner, looks like a mess.

I would love to have Bobby Valentine back.As bad as the lineup is he would be able to find a way to squeeze a few wins out of it.

by Chickendirt on Jun 30, 2009 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

as much as i dislike Omar and Jerry, firing them won't make this team play much better

They have the recipe of a bad team. When they pitch they don’t hit or field, tonight they hit but the starter and relievers were awful.

We’ve been fooling ourselves for a long time, as have the Met organization. They thought building a new park was gonna get our minds off the collapses of the past 3 seasons.

I’ve stopped going to the park and I’m at the point that I might stop watching soon. This team has killed my spirit.

by Rigsay on Jun 29, 2009 10:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

this postgame analysis is stupid

Ron and idiot Carlin are sitting in the studio trying to figure out “what’s wrong with this team” as if there were some metaphysical explanation necessary, when it’s patently obvious that they’re just not that talented with the players who are out injured. QED.

by JoshNY on Jun 29, 2009 10:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Haha...

Yeah, subtract the 3 best players from a non-playoff team and try to figure out why they aren’t a playoff team.
