Our friend Lastings gets dealt in four-player deal
Washington sends Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan to Pittsburgh for Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett.
I just thought this was funny because at one time Lastings Milledge was supposed to be the next star. One trade that actually worked in our favor.

Nice little deal for Pittsburgh
Nyjer was Juan Pierre-lite, and pushing 30.
Meanwhile, Hanrahan is still a nice power arm who boasts a 3.56 FIP. .451 BABIP!
Pitt really won this trade
All the upside in the deal is headed to Pittsburgh. I have no idea what the Nationals are thinking.
yes
Hanrahan pretty good although I would rather have Nyjer over Lastings
"I told him the next time he does that, I’m going to get my blade out and cut him, right on the field. Hey, I’m a gangsta now. You go gangsta on me, I’m gonna have to get you now."
- Jerry Manuel
I think its pretty clear
that Hanrahan to Pitt is the key to this deal from their perspective, while Wash gets a serviceable guy who can play for them right now and is cheap in Morgan.

King of the bling come to lay down the evidence//Not George Bush, L-Millz be da president
Dumb trade for the Natinals...I like it.
One of these days, L-Millz is going to get it and be a pretty servicable player.
Getting Hanrahan on the downside was also a good get.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Just for completeness' sake:
Coverage of the trade from Federal Baseball and Bucs Dugout.
and:
a nice piece from FanGraphs, who rate Nyjer Morgan pretty highly on defense.
so does this mean we won the Milledge trade?
I mean, Washington just gave up on their end of the trade.
Who knows what Milledge will do, but Pittsburgh certainly has the luxury of giving him some time to figure it out. I mean, Washington did too, but they’re run by idiots.
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.
I still plan on rooting for him.
I like Lastings and hope he sticks and becomes a good major-leaguer sometime soon. Not sure he’s totally blameless this year (as opposed to his Mets time, when he really was), but in any case I don’t really think he’s gotten a fair shake from either of his two previous organizations. The Pirates do at least have the luxury of low expectations and time to let him put it together.
The Nationals had those luxuries too
Why didn’t they stick with Milledge?
