Fernando Nieve Called Up
So says Bart Hubbuch. Nieve takes JJ Putz's place on the roster. Also, Pat Misch has been claimed from the Giants.

Well considering Redding is tonight's starter
why does that pay? They’ were giving Redding another start, may as well get the arm for the ’pen.
"What position do you play?"
"I bat third."
Nieve
He was with the Astros. Had a weird 2006. Very lucky babip (.250). Very unlucky homer rate (15%). 18 homers in 90 some innings. Homerlicious.
He has a nice k rate this season. Seems a like a serviceable long man. Throws around 92.
Yeah
I think he’s a decent choice for a lower leverage major league reliever. He throws hard enough to miss bats, but from what I remember seeing of him in ST, he works up in the zone a bit too much and has some command issues.

Question is
Does Stokes move up in the pecking order or are we going to see Nieve and Green in the 7th inning?
I couldn't believe
he couldn’t get into the game yesterday. If he’s considered the man on the low end of the totem pole, why use Feliciano for an inning instead of him?
I hope not
Jerry isn’t one to just throw guys into the fire. I have a feeling Green and PedroDos will be matched up in high leverage 7th inning situations for the most part, hopefully with some Stokes sprinkled in for good measure.

Meddler....
off topic, but slow day, any ideas how the Mets are going to go about draft day? Any names?
No idea
They don’t pick until the second round. It could be just about anyone. I don’t bother trying to predict much in the draft unless the Mets have an earlyish pick. There had been some noise about Davis last year before he was picked, but I’d have never been able to rattle off Havens or Holt as targets.

holt
was a great pick. I don’t believe he was slotted there. I could be wrong. Saw him in Brooklyn last year. so free and easy and the ball explodes.
Yeah
Holt had a bigtime breakout in his last year at UNC. His velo spiked and he was flat out dominant. Before that, he was kinda meh, so I can see why scouts who hadn’t seen him recently weren’t too crazy about the pick. But, the Mets clearly paid attention and almost certainly made the best possible choice with that selection.

best possible choice
that may be true. history will tell, but a great choice, certainly.
Caveat: just to be clear, some may think Holt went to UNC Chapel Hill, a la Walt Weiss, Dustin Ackley, Alex White. He went to NC-Wilmington. Same system, different school. Not to be picayune.
Nice move
I’m a believer in Nieve. Former top prospect. Misses bats.
His problem is the gopher ball, but Citi should help him in that regard.

If he doesn't walk people I'm fine with him
but I’d almost like another bat for this series seeing as there’s an off day Monday
You almost have to have the pitcher with Redding starting...
It’s not like Nieve can’t be sent down tommorow if need be.

it's raining really hard here
but who knows, the Nats delayed the game 2 nights ago until like 1am (granted that was to give RJ a chance at 300).
wager
is there any shot wager comes back? and if so when
Actually, he's supposed to start throwing to batters in like a month.

yeah, I just saw the new fanshot.
Happy to update my expectations, and I should remember to get all the facts straight before I make any more wagners.
