Lineup
Castillo, 2b
Cora, ss
Beltran, cf
Sheffield, lf
Wright, 3b
Tatis, 1b
Church, rf
Santos, c
Santana, lhp
Jerry Manuel indicated he would like to play Gary Sheffield all three games in left field, and right field would be divided between Ryan Church and Fernando Martinez, with Church getting dibs if he performs.
Daniel Murphy should get one start at first base this series.
At least its something that resembles other things that are of a higher quality
Than the Quad-A lineup we’d been running.

Lineup really isn't that bad.
Tatis needs to start hitting a little better though
If Church has a good series they need to send F! down to get more at bats
As long as F! and Murph each get one start I will be fine.
"We have to find a way to play better, there's no doubt. Overall. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Offense, defense, pitching -- we have to find a way to play better. The reality of this is, coming here to Pittsburgh and being swept -- personally, I feel embarrassed." -- Carlos Beltran
Concerning the following lineups
Jerry Manuel told reporters that he will essentially go with the hot hand when deciding who to play at first base and the corner outfield positions.
Even though he says that, I want to see if he’ll give up on the lefty-righty matchups in favor of the hot hand.
Cy-Tana
is undefeated against the Phils…here’s to him keeping it going!

If your first name is James
why would you go by J.A.? What is that?
Yeah, it's great
It’s exciting to be playing a good and hated team after the Nats/Marlins/Pirates lull.
Really, Jerry?
Thats the second time they mentioned Victorino winning the gold glove
who cares. Why dont they mention how many Beltran has won over the years.
Nope
I’m a little disappointed. But I dont want Santana out of the game

Howie Rose is really into this product placement.
Same here.
I figure these players are HR/15 PA at best, meaning for two players it’s around HR/7.5 PA, and they are only going to get 4-5, so yea. Plus, it’s Citi Field.
I figured Jerry forbid them to hit HR and the Phillies are facing Johan
So, it was an easy no no HR for me

Colin Cowherd
was going on today about how everyone makes excuses when it’s obvious that Ortiz is a steroid user who stopped and now can’t hit. Because obviously no formerly great hitters have all of a sudden stopped hitting in their mid-30’s unless it was steroid related. Especially none who used to play in Boston and are getting inducted to the Hall of Fame this year. Wait, what’s that?
Colin Cowherd talked about baseball?

Wanted to post this again
b/c I don’t know if people saw the posts a ways back on the board. The Mets with bases loaded the past two seasons:
2008: .216/.265/.371
2009: .224/.250/.397
That’s pretty awful, 2 years in a row.
innings
Santana’s gotta pull a Sabathia-even if he gives up 3-4 runs, give us 8 innings. He’s well rested.
Red Sox
just drafted Voltron’s cousin with the 28th pick. If he’s like Carlos but with a heart, they might win like 8 world series in a row
And if he has a short swing
they could win 10 in a row
by aparkermarshall on Jun 9, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Wait
is he literally “Carlos Beltran’s cousin” (as Dave Cameron wrote) or just “has been compared to Carlos Beltran” as the Oakland A’s Twitter feed suggests?
I'm reading through the first round
sounds like the Nationals reached with their #10 pick, taking a college closer who has command issues. Gotta love that franchise. Imagine if they can’t sign Strasburg and this guy ends up being their top pick?
SHEFF!

I’m not gonna get into an internet pissing match, but I’ll just say that I have plenty of baseball knowledge. I was actually at a game (I think it was against Boston, but my memory could be wrong on that count) where Leiter butcher boy’ed 2 balls to the warning track in right, and the whole stadium thought they were gonna be out. That was the first time I ever saw Leiter pitch in person and I thought he was a great hitter – I was obviously very wrong.
I just didn’t connect your reference to Santana – I thought you were complaining that the Mets don’t play with the same kind of heart Leiter’s teams did or something.
did Traitor Leiter ever make contact though?

Gary needs to start watching the monitors, no?
That pitch was in the dirt, and he says “just missed.”
Has anyone else noticed
that fans at Citi Field seem to do much less “Let’s Go Mets” and much more “Let’s go (player) clap. clap. clapclapclap”? It really bothers me, b/c Lets Go Mets is such a great chant and the other one sounds like the Yankees or something
Seriously
I was at a game, and I never realized what awful things a stadium that connects all the way around can do for a wave. I literally saw one wave go around like, five times. I just sat in my seat each pass, becoming more and more horrified that this could actually happen, and in a close game no less.

Oh, they always do it in a close game
I think it’s embarrassing, frankly.
Agreed
I mean, maybe on like a Sunday or Wednesday day game or something, when the ballpark is packed with kids and maybe some camp groups or something. That makes some sense. But seeing inebriated fools doing it and screaming obscenities the whole game, that makes me feel embarrassed to be a part of the same demographic.

BTW ....
Yes, Manuel should have gone out to argue the call at home plate with Tatis. But … Tatis didn’t argue the call either. What’s up with dat?

The slide and “tag” were just like that one.
I don't

Should be like 7-4 already
Santana’s gotta gut thru 2-3-4 and then hand it off to K-Rod. Not feelin Parnell against Utley and Howard
no way Parnell faces Howard or Ibanez
if it’s not Santana, it’s Feliciano
Jeff Kent was hella cool
For some reason Jeff Kent just popped into my mind. had a nice swing.

Hernández has been involved in a number of high-profile incidents with players and even fans. On August 7, 2001, he ejected a guest singer of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at Wrigley Field. The ejectee was former Chicago Bears player Steve McMichael, who had taken a shot at Hernandez’ umpiring after being introduced as the guest singer.2

A pitcher gives up a bunch of runs but still gets the W
How is it that the media looks at that and concludes, “That pitcher knows how to win,” as opposed to “Wins are a really stupid statistic.”

Just got here
Help me out. If we have a ROOGY in Sean Green, who has been effective of late, why do we burn our set-up man in the 8th for one batter?
Just asking?
I will not allow the denigration of the life essence
Because it was the 8th
And that’s reasonable. It was a big out to get before Howard/Ibanez, although he didn’t get it.
Dissagree vociferously
Green gets the righty and Feliciano get the lefties. If the Philth tie the game, we have Parnell. If we burn Parnell, we have…Green?

Play to keep the lead
If they tie, we’ll all bow at the feet of their grission and lose in extras.
Not to be overlooked
Church’s first big moment as a Met? He deserves out of Jerry’s doghouse and hopefully there is more magic to come from him. Or he’ll get showcased and traded…
