This is so aggravating to me. I strongly disagree with this article. They SHOULD be held responsible..injuries or no injuries, their decision making has been terrible, on and off the field!

I read this article during the Livan show today

still thinking about Omar’s role in this season. It’s complex. It’s not just the injuries, but he’s not entirely at fault.

But he's responsible for part of it, at least.

What's worse?

The fact that Minaya isnt that good and Manual sucks or the fact that even IF one or both were fired, Wilpon would just replace him with someone equally inept?

When the owner doesn’t get it, our only hope is that by blind luck some decent GM or manager would say the right thing to get hired. I hated Art Howe, he was old school and he stunk. I read an article somewhere that claimed that Wilpon only meant to interview Howe to put pressure on Seattle because the Mets were having a tough time negotiating for the rights to interview Pinella. Of course Howe blew Wilpon away in the meeting and was offered a job on the spot….what happened next was one of the worst tenures of managerial history.

Its difficult for me to look forward to the future when I have no faith in the top of the organization. Who knows how long it will take to get a new owner. The good news is that I will continue to play the mega jackpot in hopes that I can someday buy the Mets and save them from this period of wretchedness

actually, the players stunk under Howe.

I can’t say whether he has any managerial skills, but he skippered some bad teams.

for example, 2004 Opening Day lineup:
K Matsui SS
R Gutierrez 2B
C Floyd LF
M Piazza C
M Cameron CF
J Phillips 1B
K Garcia RF
T Wigginton 3B
T Glavine P

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Howe was a bumbling fool

but that team sucked. I recall him being hands-off and pretty conventional. Like any other manager, I’m sure he’d do fine if he had a good team and bad if he had a bad team.

Minaya gets a free pass...

…so he can trade for Failcouer.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
