Instant Opinions Of The Jeff Francoeur Trade From The Best In The Business
The trade didn't really set in until I tagged Francoeur to this post and saw him listed as "Francoeur (RF - NYM)".

mark your calendars
Francoeur was ejected for the first time in his career on July 16, 2006. Coincidentally, he was ejected for the second time on July 16, 2007.

What?!
Just arrived on the site and saw this post.
I’m shell shocked and don’t know why. This is not a blockbuster trade or have a distinct advantage. It’s like a push in blackjack.

No
It’s like the dealer (Braves) is showing 15, you (Mets) have 20, and you hit anyway.

all the commenters on the Braves blog are thrilled
Frenchy was a huge anchor (in a BAD way) on their lineup.
He is made out 5 out of every 7 times at the plate.

Coming back to senses after reading Neyer's column
Maybe I took a drink of Omar’s kool aid. This is a head scratch if the best explanation is the injury bug.

+1
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

no, no rising star potential
but I’ll take slightly above league average over 162 games per season of terrible terrible offense

But he was a solid role player that played his role well

Kudos to Ted Berg
First time reading Ted Berg assuming SNY repressed independent thought and positive criticism. Expecting a puff piece like the other corporate mets blog (can’t make myself say it) and pleasantly surprised by his candor.
Frenchy for Churchy. Is this a sign of the end of the season? Also, what a harsh comment by Omar on Church implying Church is infected with the injury bug.
Good for Church. Rock it out Hotlanta! Check out the nightlife in Smyrna (So Many Young Rednecks in Atlanta) its a hoot and make sure your got the Waffle House order down!

Who finishes the season with a lower OBP, Frenchy or Omir?
I’m so glad we made trades to get these guys in our lineup.

Maybe some team could dig up Tony Batista, make him their first baseman, and then convince Omar to trade Daniel Murphy for him.

Games will last 2 hours, 15 mins
Breakdown of time:
30 minutes – get to game late due to extended tailgate/drinking in parking lot
45 minutes – wait on line for Shake Shack or some other nonsense
45 seconds – watch Omir Santos plate appearance (2 pitches)
15 seconds – watch Jeff Francoeur plate appearance (1 pitch)
9 minutes – walk to and use bathroom
20 minutes – walk around stadium trying to find Omar’s box to scream FAILCOEUR at him over and over
5 minutes – Pat Misch works 1-2-3 7th; give him standing ovation despite Mets being down 9-0
25 minutes – leave game early to re-commence drinking

I only disagree that it was dumber than Dayton Moore's deal
The Mets and Royals both acquired garbage, but the Mets traded an above-average 30-year-old who will never be a star, whereas the Royals (who need prospects to develop) traded two prospects who might develop into stars (or might flame out).
I think the Royals made the worse move, but just barely.

I saw the title and thought this was just a joke. It’s almost like they saw all the jokes about this guy posted here and figured it would stir things up. That would make more sense than expecting some kind of baseball related return, at least.

Here's the money-quote from BBTF
Ryan Church is a better baseball player than Jeff Francoeur. Ryan Church is overwhelmingly likely to always be a better player than Jeff Francoeur. I am amazed that Dayton Moore only did the second-dumbest thing today.

Hey Mets fans
I know I’m not that welcome here, but . . . Not sure if anyone heard of, or even cared, seeing as how we’re your division rivals, but a few months ago, I created a t-shirt that has surprisingly been selling quite well with Braves fans as well oddly, fans of other teams, as well as smarmy stat guys, aptly named after our former, and your new right-fielder.
As soon as it’s revealed what Francoeur’s Mets jersey number, I’ll get right to work in re-creating the Mets iteration of the FAILCOEUR shirt that I originally created. Obviously, the goal is to replicate the look, style and typeface of the Mets’ unis, and hopefully there will be enough of you guys who may or may not be interested, or just wish to flame me.

Whenever my friends made fun of how bad the Mets were doing
I would say that, objectively, they were only really starting 3 MLB-caliber position players who deserved their spot. Wright, Castillo (as an 8th hitting 2B he’s been very good) and Church. Now, that number is down to two. Awesome

Trade Wright!
I’ve always wanted to be a fan of a baseball team who can boast Luis Castillo and his .054 ISO as its only MLB-caliber position player.
This season is starting to feel a lot like 2002, when everything just completely fell apart.

Hey you forgot
the links to Greenberg in the Post and Harper in the Daily News saying it was a good deal.
How do those guys keep their jobs? The premise of their articles is that this is a good trade because, you know, the Mets did SOMETHING. Then they spend the rest of their repsective articles pointing out how bad Failcoeur is. But at least Omar “did something” because that’s all that matters. Not if it’s the right or wrong thing or not.
