(Current Met) Is The Next (Hall Of Famer)
This past offseason, we learned that Oliver Perez is the next Sandy Koufax. It's an obvious assessment and I'm not sure how only Scott Boras realized it.
According to Rhodes Scholar and SNY talking head Marc Malusis, Jeff Francoeur is the next Mickey Mantle. Thank you Marc for bringing this comp to our attention.
Here are some more Hall of Fame comparisons for current Mets players. See if you can come up with any others:
- Omir Santos is the next Roy Campanella
- Livan Hernandez is the next Kid Nichols
- Bobby Parnell is the next Goose Gossage
- Argenis Reyes is the next Rod Carew

Would he have to?
Rod never did, no matter what Adam Sandler said.

You put the extra effort into finding comparable photos
and it paid off. Well done.

To be fair, we may have the "next" current Mickey Mantle on our team.
Sheffield’s similarity score to Mantle: 851
Mantle’s 2nd highest comp.
Francoeur’s similar players?
Johnny Rizzo, Butch Huskey, Jim Greengrass, Mark Carreon, Michael Cuddyer, Junior Felix, Xavier Nady, Wes Helms, Mark Teahen, Kevin Mench. Bleh.

well, to be fair, we did like Xavier Nady
and Mark Carreon “My Wayward Son” had a very good Chris Berman nickname. So there’s that too.

And Butch Huskey was husky, so there's that.

Argenis = Rod Carew?
Argenis hits more like Rod Serling. He’s more of the next Rabbit Maranville. Couldn’t hit, either, but good enough with the leather to make it to the Hall of Fame. Also, he loved to fight.

maranville hit .258/.318/.340, and played for 23 years, with like half of them for the Boston Braves
if argenis played 12 years for us I’ll cry

Better example
Argenis is the next Ray Oyler. The guy was just awful offensively. I mean, just cover-your-eyes bad.

I got a few!
Nick Evans is the next Richie Ashburn
Luis Castillo is the next Rogers Hornsby
Danny Murphy is the next Ernie Banks
Omir Santos is (actually) the next Josh Gibson
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

Not a Hall of Famer, but
I wonder how long it will be before MetsBlog mentions that Daniel Murphy has the potential to be a John Olerud type hitter again.

Fernando Martinez is not the next anything.
He’s the FIRST Fernando Martinez.
