Amazin' Avenue Homerun Derby Contest
The All-Star game may have lost its luster years ago but that doesn't mean we can't still have some fun with it. The homerun derby, too, is less exciting now that everyone isn't all goosed up on steroids (or are they?); it's basically just a well-structured batting practice featuring All-Stars instead of regular stiffs. Nevertheless, I found some stray swag lying around the house and figured this would be a good time to unload some of it during tonight's festivities.
To enter, just fill out this form; all fields are required and only Amazin' Avenue members with at least 50 total comments are eligible. If you're a long-time reader but never got around to creating an account, sign up for one now and you could be eligible for the next swag giveaway.
The winner will receive this Mets DVD and this baseball rules book. Runner-up will received just the book. One entry per person. Entries received after the start of the derby will be discarded.
This year's entrants are:
- Carlos Pena
- Brandon Inge
- Nelson Cruz
- Joe Mauer
- Albert Pujols
- Adrian Gonzalez
- Prince Fielder
- Ryan Howard

I had to check and see if I met the 50 comment requirement. I was shocked to see that I was well over 400 for AA.

1,822
I have 1,822 comments, but 1,801 people disagree with. Does that still count?
You may have Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, and Lidge...but, WE have Fernando Tatis, baby. Two grand slames in one inning. Hello??

He just said 50 comments, not 50 good ones. ;)

Yep
Though the userIDs are network-wide so if you’re #10,000 it means you were the 10,000th user to sign up with any SB Nation site when we kicked over to the new platform in February 2008.

Can you make 50 comments in this thread, then guess?

You could
But we won’t count them.

I'm a member of male pattern fitness now, btw
I saw it on your profile and one thing led to another.
That’s an “interesting” site…

OVER / UNDER
Combined number of whiffs (swings and misses) by Carlos Pena and Ryan Howard by the end of their 1st round: 7
I’m taking the OVER. “Giggle” I couldn’t resist.
Look forward to playing when I get home.
Is this what life has come to?

Replying to myself:
Just realized I only have 46 comments (counting this one). Dear-o-dear. What’s a blogger to do?

Brandon Inge?
Most HR’s in a year by Inge: 27
This year by All Star break: 21
“Hmmm. I’m just sayin.’”
On a side note not dealing with the sluggers – Will Tim Lincecum (mad respect) stop with the beanies or whatever you want to call ‘em? C’mon kid. Change it up every now and then.

The real question is how many of these guys are juice guys?

Side Bet
Will the Mets combined homers for the entire year outnumber the amount of homers in tonight’s contest? I say no. The first round alone will feature more homers than you’ll see from the Mets all season.

I just join them.
I don’t really actively contribute to more than 1 or 2.

How's it running this year?
Is the slate getting wiped in the final round? I imagine so.

I picked Prince!!
Lopez wants it away, and it's hit deep to left center, Andruw Jones on the run, this one has a chance... home run!!, Mike Piazza!, and the Mets lead 3 to 2!!
