Watch out, Braves!

Here we come! BERROA TIME!!!!

You may have Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, and Lidge...but, WE have Fernando Tatis, baby. Two grand slames in one inning. Hello??

"Distinctions at this level"

The alternative was Argenis Reyes.

The season is saved! Huzzah!

Man, we’re so screwed. If there’s an upside to this, at least he’s not Neifi Perez.

Angel Berroa has upside though

Plus he was about league average 1 year 6 six years ago.

It’s not even like we can get a decent defensive team out there. If we’re gonna get three hits a game, at least field a decent defense.

It's kind of hard to still have upside in your 8th ML season.

I mean, I think it would be safe to say he had upside. Kind of similar to how Yuniesky Betancourt has upside.

We are going to put out a lineup at some point this season...

…that has Jeff Francoeur, Angel Berroa, and Omir Santos playing at the same time. I predict we will not score many runs that day.

by Cox813 on Jul 16, 2009 1:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

just to fuck with us

that’ll be the one day we put up 15 runs or something.

David Eckstein: so gritty they would eat him in the south for breakfast with some butter and sprinkle cheese.

Good Move

Not that Berroa is any good, but if you aren’t stupid like the Yankees and put him at 3B, he’s roughly replacement level, and probably a very small improvement over Argenis Reyes as a good defensive 2B and bad defensive SS. And until the other Reyes is back, we need one of those on the bench.

We must laugh

to keep from crying.

Is Angel Berroa > Argenis Reyes?

I say so.

Then what complaining can we do? Let’s just hope to god Berroa never sees a day on the field.

I can only laugh though at us trying to improve our offense by adding Jeff Francoeur and Angel Berroa. That’s a big ol’ LOL.

Me > Argenis Reyes

You > Argenis Reyes

Dog > Argenis Reyes

Coma patient = Argenis Reyes

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.

Wilson Valdez > Berroa > Reyes

That’s the real complaint, especially for a team full of pitch-to-contact hurlers.

by Zwill on Jul 16, 2009 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I agree

I mean, Javier Castillo is probably better anyway

by Pat Andriola on Jul 16, 2009 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with both of you.

Valdez is a pretty good defensive SS with a noodle for a bat and Castillo is likely to be league average-to-slightly below at SS with a slightly better bat.

by All Shook Down on Jul 16, 2009 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Use him correctly

If he is only used to pinch hit, he is a better bat then A. Reyes. Just don’t leave him in as a defensive replacement the following inning.

I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
