Omar and Jerry need to be fired
This is a laughingstock they have on the field. Omar, with no time table for the injured players to return, kept telling us that the team could hang in till they came back. He understimated the fact that the backups can’t play .500 ball. That should be Omar’s ass right there.
Jerry can not manage a bullpen or even be bothered to ensure that Warthen has this pitching staff prepped to startt games. It’s one thing for the injuries to the lineup but another for the starters to completley bail on the team like this.
This season is a disaster and those two should be shit canned yesterday. The fans, the players and all involved have had enough of this.

the injuries are a get-out-of-jail-free card for both of them,
sadly.

I have to agree.
I’ve defended Minaya, but this is sort of outrageous. With this much money invested in the team, we have the most embarrassing also-rans in backup and simply no minor league talent to cull from. Even temporarily.
He got a bum deal on the injuries, but it’s the complete disgrace we are seeing right now which there’s no reason for.
You may have Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, and Lidge...but, WE have Fernando Tatis, baby. Two grand slames in one inning. Hello??

that about sums it up
quick poll: which season is more disappointing, this year or 2002?

This saddest part of all is, this is not the end of it.
Now we can put to bed the idea that the “core” is to blame. We’ve all seen clear as day what our issues are (lack of a sufficient supporting cast, lack of upper level prospects, lack of coherant management).
The problem is, how does it get fixed? Next year’s Free Agent Class is atrocious and help is not really on the way yet from the farm. Without dealing prospects (which if we were going to do, I’d like to think it would have been done by now), how is this roster going to sufficiently improve?
On paper, we will likely have a weaker team next year than what we started off with this season. Our pitching staff may be able to be improved (really the only decent players on the market will be SP’s), but I don’t see how we fill the holes in RF, LF, 1B and C (and maybe even 2B).
Oh yeah, we’ll go find some more 40 year olds to plug the holes with.

You're wrong
People will say that we didn’t get anything back for Wright, Reyes or Beltran. Until April, we’re gonna hear all about how we have to trade the core. It ain’t over
God I hope Omar doesn’t do anything stupid…. It’s unlikely ain’t it?

Haha, maybe he'll trade for Jeff Francouer!
That sounds like such an Omar thing to do, you know? THAT would be funny.

if murph starts to hit i would leave him at 1st
but if not then I would sign LaRoche to play 1st.get Abreu for LF leave Frenchy for RF for now.sign a cheap catcher and go from there

The Phillies will probably get Roy Halladay.

I may be drunk
but I’m fairly confident this season is over. sure, the mets could overcome their deficient. but the injuries and poor team construction have ruined this team. I just hope Omar realizes this truth and acts accordingly.

Warthen
i know it won’t make much of a difference but I would hope at the very least, he gets canned pretty soon. Not only haave the pitchers not improved under his tenure, they have gotten worse. Even Santana has been performing at a lower level recently. I know pitching coaches don’t make much of an impact either way but there doesn’t seem to be any real communication between him and the starters and certainly he can’t point to any succeses that would justify keeping him on.

good for Stokes.Don’t let that douche make fun of you.Plus it gives me something else to follow instead of this joke of a team

Was Wagner making fun of Stokes or the fact that Jerry doesn’t use him enough? I actually took that more as a dig at Jerry then Stokes.

As much as we suck
The Braves are a game or two ahead of us. What’s their excuses?? No one’s been injured and they actually added useful parts like Mclouth and Chuuuch
by Rigsay on Jul 18, 2009 11:47 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Our excuse is we had NO offense the first 70 games or so. 2 of our best young hitters,FYF and Johnson, were pathetic. Not to mention it took us quite a while to clean out the bullpen and figure out who belongs and who doesn’t.
I know injuries are tough guys. The 2008 Braves had EVERY opening day starting pitcher hurt at one time. How do you think we did? Things do get better.

Right. Right. Right.
No. You have not experienced true injuries as we have this year. This is a stupid argument. Did you or did you not lose 3 of your best 4 offensive players.
