when did Jerry get it through his head that Pagan is a leadoff hitter?

Church is a damn nice 8th hitter
Hitting clean-up one week, bottom of the line-up the next.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Ugh.
I’m relegated to game day. If anyone has a link to a feed that would be great. MLBtv won’t work for my company computer. We are based in atlanta so I “Should” get Atlanta. I live in Texas and I am stuck watching Angels.

Nice inning jagov's
Has Jerry ever heard of a hit and run? Castillo handles the bat better than anyone…why would anyone give an out away there?

Frenchy saw 7 pitches
that’s gotta be a record.

He’s not a big league regular. He’d be a nice bench piece anywhere, and the Mets just need to realize that and use him correctly next season.

They are basically the same
misread the play, distort basic statistics and extremely dumb soap opera storylines. Is this taught in college to these people? Does the network have the training facility where they teach these morons about grission and chemistry. I have a theory that most analysts are former terrible players, they have no insight in how to be good at baseball since they were never really good at it to begin with. And to them they know that numbers never helped them because their numbers were terrible to begin with. So they come up with something to keep them in the game.

As far as I’m concerned, trade this kid. He can’t play the outfield and he hasn’t shown he can hit ML pitching on a consistent basis.

What value could he possibly have on the market
If the Mets are going to do anything with Murphy it would be to send him down. I doubt they’ll do that.
"Those who fear disorder more than injustice inevitably produce more of both." -- Rev. William Coffin
He needs more than half a season.
He’s played almost as many games in the bigs as he did in the minors. He was not handled well by the organization and deserves a little slack.

I recognize that my disappointment is really about how he was sold to the fanbase
Having said that, it’s difficult to see upside when you watch him play. I suspect he’ll have better success on balls in play, and he’ll probably add some power as he fills out.
But in all seriousness, what do you see as his upside?
"Those who fear disorder more than injustice inevitably produce more of both." -- Rev. William Coffin
He can be DeRosa type player I think if he gets some time to develop his defense.
It looks like pitchers have figured him out and he needs to adjust his approach. Lord knows he probably isn’t getting much help from this coaching staff.

Okay...
that seems far more tempered than anything I heard last year from the Mets, the press, and much of the fanbase. (Granted, I didn’t spend much time at AA until recently.)

I never saw him as a regular player, but I liked his potential
Omar’s a jackass
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Jury's still out...
8/2/08 – 5/8/09: 221 ABs, .312/.387/.475
5/9/09 – 7/17/2009: 158 ABs, .209/.278/.297
I think he deserves a bit more time, but I agree that the Mets didn’t handle him well.
Um...
… if you’re selling, you probably want to wait until he hits well for a decent stretch.
You’re not getting anything of much worth for this guy at this point.
by LeiterMilnerFasterStronger on Jul 18, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Selling young, cheap players with options remaining is a poor idea.
Murph has plenty of value to the Mets in the future as a pinch hitter or in the minors as depth. Trading guys like him to acquire minor league prospects just makes the upper levels of the farm system even more barren. He should still be with the organization after the deadline.

Give the nature of this season
you can’t give up on a young kid. The lineup has been so messed up and so little productivity top to bottom that you don’t have a clear picture of what the kid can do. He seems to have a good APPROACH, which at his age is more important than the actual numbers IMO
So, are Daniel Murphy supporters giving him the 1B job for next year?
If not, then we need to get a first baseman.
"Never throw a slider to The Glider."

"Those who fear disorder more than injustice inevitably produce more of both." -- Rev. William Coffin
I paraphrase
He said that when he comes back, he’ll only be a small part of the team like Brian Stokes
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
From NY Post
Stokes was firing back at Wagner after Wagner told The Post earlier this week that he thinks the Mets will limit him to being “a Brian Stokes-type player [who] might pitch once a week” when — or if — he returns from Tommy John surgery.
This people kill me....

Good point.
Stokes has been underused by Manuel. Manuel is just a horrible manager totally devoid of any leadership skills.

I will say this...
Atlanta is barely better than we are, and they spent a ton on pitching and have been relatively healthy.
For all the “Mets are an apocalyptic disappointment talk” the Bravos are only technically in the hunt. They’re not catching Philly. They are what their record says they are.
"Those who fear disorder more than injustice inevitably produce more of both." -- Rev. William Coffin
Agreed
No one in the NL East is great this year.
Indeed.
For all of the stuff you can genuinely pin on Minaya, without catastrophic injury I think we’d have overtaken the Philly during their June swoon.

Like 1 player better than us?
Like if we traded Francoeur for Church, we’d be better than them?
Maybe we should think about doing that.

I'm not saying Omar shouldn't be outta here
but it’s intersting how the Braves are sort of beyond reproach, and their front office hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype.
