Mets Community Prospect List: #8
With 62% of the vote, the winner of the round seven is: Josh Thole
Welcome to the Amazin' Avenue Mets Community Prospect List, where you get to vote on who the Mets best prospects are. Every poll will include eight candidates for the next spot on the list, as well as a separate group of testers. Testers will be rotated into polls with each update, replacing each poll's winner and any name that's not getting enough votes. If there's a particular tester you'd like to see added to the poll, or a name not on the testers list that you feel belongs there, voice your support in the comments section and it will be duly noted.
The list so far:
- Fernando Martinez
- Jenrry Meija
- Brad Holt
- Wilmer Flores
- Jonathon Niese
- Reese Havens
- Josh Thole
To replace Josh Thole, Robert Carson has been added to the candidates. Since only five candidates received votes in the previous poll, this will be the only tester added in this round. In no particular order, here are the candidates for the Community's #8 Mets prospect:
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis
- Brant Rustich
- Ruben Tejada
- Jeurys Familia
- Jefry Marte
- Dillon Gee
- Robert Carson
- Ike Davis
Testers - Scott Moviel, Jeurys Familia, Kyle Allen, Eddie Kunz, Francisco Pena, Eric Beaulac, Michael Antonini, Zach Lutz, Nick Carr, Scott Shaw

Ruben Tejada
Voted Tejada, he’s younger than Ike, playing the same level showing supposedly average to plus glove at short and doing well when playing 2B. I think Tejada could be a .280/.360/.380 good defensive up the middle guy
I like Ike too, but he has lots of questions and his ceiling isnt as high, I see him as a future platoon 1B, but he could still become a .270/.370/.480 above average defensive 1B
Still going with Tejada because of Ike’s platoon splits

I'm with you, voted for Ruben too
Tejada’s plate discipline is quite impressive. I think he’s a great bet to become at least Luis Castillo with a SS’s arm. His potential isn’t a whole lot higher than that, but he could add a bit more pop than Castillo’s ever had. Remember, Slappy only ever hit one minor league HR, Tejada’s hit seven already, and he’s had about 700 fewer PAs that Castillo and a much more difficult ARL path.

Power
Yeah, I mean a 19year player with .350OBP in double AA developing power along the way is not something unheard of and kinda makes sense…he could easily become similar to Reyes or Furcal power wise

Not impossible
Though Tejada’s a bit behind Reyes at this point in terms of pop. Not terribly, but he is behind. Actually, looking closer, it may be more of a speed mirage than anything. Reyes hit 16 2B, 8 3B, 2 HR in ~300 EL PAs at 19. Tejada’s got 13 2B, 1 3B, and 2 HR at the same age and league. So the big Slugging difference here is the triples and a couple doubles, which for all we know, could have been patented Reyes “hustle doubles”. Reyes was/is a bit bigger, so there was more room for power projection, but Tejada may have a bit more than the scouting reports the last few seasons suggested. And obviously, Tejada doesn’t have Reyes’s pure speed, but then again, few do. I’d put his ceiling around 15 HR/30 SB right now, which for a plus defensive SS is more than good, its excellent. Not quite Reyes, but excellent nonetheless.

Looking at Reyes only half a year doesn't do his power justice though
27 XBHs in 327 PAs in A+ and 42 XBHs as an 18 year old in A ball, that’s more where the excitement came. I remember a scout drooling over Reyes power potential after his A ball campaign. But, yeah I agree, Tejada is not as far off from Reyes power wise as it would seem.

Yeah I agree
I think some of it may be a speed mirage though, a lot of Reyes’ XBH and triples vs. doubles are a result of his legs, the homers aren’t that different from Tejada though. They are higher, but not by as much as I’d thought.
