Some Radical ideas to Liven (or wink wink, Livan) Up these Meaningless Games
1) Play a volleyball style Defense: After every out, Met players rotate positions. It will add some intrigue when Omir Santos is at short and Frenchy is behind the plate.
2) Players running on every pitch. Regardless of score or count, we just take off. It will be like when the Arena Football wideouts get a running head start at the line of scrimmage.
3) Let’s try and set a modern day record for most games without a homer. Or how about a home run Lottery? If you hit a homer, you are sent to Buffalo, or you get stoned to death by villagers.
4) Let’s set a record for most bunts in a row. It can’t be more than 4 or 5, this is very doable.
5) Our pitchers must throw one eephus pitch every at bat. Livan already does this, so let’s just have all our pitchers do it.
6) Turn games upside down: K-Rod pitches the first inning, followed by Parnell, Feliciano, Stokes, and then the starter takes over in the 4th or 5th. We may not win, but we will blow minds!!!
Strip baseball
Every time Jerry makes a questionable move, the player concerned removes one article of clothing.
Omir begins each game naked.
he ought to hire some women just for that...
maybe ticket sales wouldn’t suffer as badly

Jeremy Reed's last hit
Was quite awhile ago. 0 for his last 12.
Did anyone see the Jon Heyman article where it says we turned down a deal for Halladay?
We would’ve given up Niese, Parnell, Tejada, and F-Mart
Regardless of this year…. WHY THE HELL DIDN’T WE DO THAT?
I'm not sure I understand you
That would be a terrific deal for us, regardless of what happens this year
no. it's not
that’s just too much. Our best prospect for sure, definitely our most major league ready prospect, a still young bullpen arm, and a solid young player for a great pitcher, but an aging pitcher. it doesn’t help us this year, and maybe not that much next year.
David Eckstein: so gritty they would eat him in the south for breakfast with some butter and sprinkle cheese.
1 and a half year of that pitcher for a lot of money too
its not like we are getting 5years of him for 2mil per

That really is a steal though compared to what was out there
Drabek, Donald, Marson, etc, etc. They blow F!, Parnell, Niese and Tejada out of the water.
It worries me that the cost is that. Philly is moronic if they don’t grab him. If they do, we are in deep, deep trouble.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
and that's the extra motivation
if phil gets him it won’t matter if fmart goes to the hall of fame.

An extension will be enormous money and years…if we wanted to overpay for a pitcher, we can still get a decent one via free agency.

I’d look at it as a 2010 trade, this year is over. We have Livan and Halladay as a 1-2? Then if Halladay leaves you can still get a draft pick back at least. We are that excited about Parnell, Niese and FMart?
i'm not excited about anyone in this system

What are the odds we can trade Castillo and Sheff?
AL has homefeild for the WS.
Sheff could be a decent DH for a team in need.
Castillo off the bench for a team who needs it.
I hope the Mets can at least unload Luis and look at signing Tejada. Jason Bay I think might be available this offseason also.

I'm totally fine with that deal
And actually excited about it. Niese is the only guy that’s tough to give up on, but we are talking about the Best righty in the game right now. FMart just isn’t a future star, he may only be a future Jeremy Reed. And Halladay is a HORSE. He makes the bullpen better by making them obsolete. Is it really off the table? Get Ricciardi on the batphone damnit!
if Omar wasn't a dope
he’d know that the market plays right into giving mets a shot. The Jays can’t want to trade him to the Sawx or Spanks. And if the Phils balk, the Mets can slide in again with their worse prospects. Turning them down is shortsighted.

A lot of folks drop off early
And I’m not really arguing anything except that lack of protection and a bunch of exhibition games can’t turn 30 HR power into 8 HR power. I fear (not argue) that this might be a permanent drop off because Wright’s abilities (contact, power, batting eye) have plummeted across the board for more than half a season. I don’t understand how anyone could dismiss it as a slump or some bogus excuse like protection. Something fundamental is going on.

8-3 Atlanta
The Giants sooooooo remind me of the 07 Mets.
I forgot what winning felt like. Except we won on Saturday.

Doesn't really matter at this point
Easy to pull of some wins when you aren’t playing for anything.
Sickening to say that even though it’s still July.
6.5 games out of the WC at worst after tonight
Stranger things have happened (cough, 7 with 17 to play)
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
yeah, we're 7 back with 60 odd to play

True
but I think there are too many teams ahead of us.
Milwaukee and Chicago (they are just startin to come around) are gonna be tough to pass.
Don’t see it happening.
Atlanta looks like they are now puttin somethin together to get in the race also. They are creaming San Fran in San Fran 9-3.
It's in Atlanta, and the Braves suck
Bottom line is, if we can play better than we have been (unlikely) and get some guys back sooner than later (unlikely), we are the best team out of the bunch.
It’s going to take a lot, and I have no expectations, but I can see us making this at least a little interesting.

I like winning. Winning is fun.
