Francouer on WFAN interview

he’s being very humble about his faults and talking a lot about how he’s getting a lot of lessons from Wright, Hojo and Sheff. He even specifically mentioned the importance of getting into 2-0 and 3-1 counts.

I think he’s doing his best to be likable on his new team.

by TheBigStapler on Jul 21, 2009 6:47 PM EDT reply actions

This is why I can't really dislike the guy.

As much as it is his fault that he’s a .300 OBP-er, it’s not his fault that Omar traded for him. Seems like he’s doing the best that he can, considering. It’s obvious that he wants to get better, is not some weird Atlanta cretin, and is still pretty young and somewhat talented. That’s probably all we can ask for.

by DonGately on Jul 21, 2009 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm trying to like him

I agree he’s doing the best he can, i just hope he can get a bit more patient at the plate. Only time will tell. Also he should avoid the trainers and medical staff at all costs…they’re like kryptonite to baseball players

by KeithsMoustache on Jul 21, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Remember when tuning in to the first inning

meant at bats by Beltran and Reyes? Man I miss those.

by David G on Jul 21, 2009 6:58 PM EDT reply actions

An improved

or back to early years Frenchy can only mean good things for this team. I hope he pulls it off.
Also hope that means he’s reevaluated his mindset of ‘OBP is overrated’ ….

Hey

if it’s so important why don’t they put it on the scoreboard

LOL.

Exactly. Here’s hoping he’s now learned something….

Depressning day

Between the enormous turd-dump that is Washington and the total imbecility of the Mets management, the last few months have only exacerbated my sense that the world is run by fucking morons.

by DonGately on Jul 21, 2009 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

with dunn at first

the mets should just hit it down the first base line all night, final score, 20 runs 18 errors on Dunn

Auspicious beginning

Until the inevitable sac bunt from Castillo

by TheBigStapler on Jul 21, 2009 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

huh

maybe he should have bunted

by Jadden Hopkins on Jul 21, 2009 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

well at least he put it in play

by KeithsMoustache on Jul 21, 2009 7:09 PM EDT reply actions

It's not like the bunts have helped

the first 2 times they didn’t score and last night they scored twice, not just squeezing out the one run.

by Mount17 on Jul 21, 2009 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

Hit and run

makes more sense than bunting. I can live with a line out dp or a caught stealing more than I can deal with bunts. Go down being aggressive if you are going to go down.

by David G on Jul 21, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

I agree

Especially in the early innings

by KeithsMoustache on Jul 21, 2009 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Castillo leads the majors

making contact with 94.4 percent of his swing…I could deal with hit and run with him every AB.

Just a quick survey

Do a lot of you typically watch or listen to the games on a delay? I’d hate to react immediately to a play and ruin the moment for other posters.

by TheBigStapler on Jul 21, 2009 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

I do

So I often only look and comment between innings, to avoid spoilers.

Hit a home run

and you get to bat 4th the next day. It’s that easy when you’re a Met!

Frenchy had a 2-0 count back then...

So I guess if he has a 2-0 count next time, expect him to swing away at any ball near the strike zone.

If he would just take one more pitch, he could get a 3-0 count….oh well.

I'll prpbably get killed for this

but I think the Mets may have something in Murphy.

He’s starting to look like a keeper. I know this is the Nats but he’s really been starting to grow on me these last few weeks.

by Chickendirt on Jul 21, 2009 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

I dont disagree

but he’s still rough around the edges. With work he’ll be a good first baseman

by KeithsMoustache on Jul 21, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I don't think he'll be a superstar player or anything

but I think the Mets could turn him into an infeilder that can play both 1st and 3rd base and not hurt you with the bat.

by Chickendirt on Jul 21, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I still like Murph for 2nd

It’s the only place where his bat is a plus. He’s got the glove for it, pretty decent range and arm. Why not try him next year then?

by David G on Jul 21, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I feel the same way

But I would like to see Murphy at 2B during spring trainning or the minors. I dont want to see him learning the job in MLB.

by Michkin on Jul 21, 2009 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn't mind Tejada

I know he’s a SS but I think he would work there. Can hit between .290-.300. This season he’s hitting .324.

Grab him for a two year deal, Trade Castillo at the deadline and sign Jason Bay to play left.

Murphy at 1st.

We’ll have a decent lineup next season.

He doesn't look relaxed at the plate

It’s kinda one of those things where Darling talks about pitchers going outside of themselves. Wright is trying to be a hitter that he is not. His natural approach is to go with what’s offered, hit to oppoisites fields and capatialize on mistake pitches.

He’s pressing too much trying to be everything to everyone. It’s not working.

by Chickendirt on Jul 21, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

That's exactly what I've been saying.......

…and last 2 years with the collapses, I wanted him to stop giving interviews and appearances so he could rest, but I guess he had the commitments…….I guess I can blame the agent / organization for killing the guy like that, but he could also have said enough……..

If his long hits went down the line, instead of the deepest parts of every field, wouldn’t he? Or is that flawed logic? It seems to work for Utley.
