Ike Davis on the Hot Sheet
So is Deolis Guerra.
And some fanposter on minorleagueball assumed he was black. Now THERE's a fanpost topic for you.

So, the question is,
will Sam get on the Ike Davis trolley?

Please, Joe. Sam Page only likes short swingers w/ grission (see Santos, Omir)

Nice photo, too.
If that isn’t what the grizzled old scouts supposedly call “the good face,” I don’t know what is.

Ike vs. fellow Sun Devil Wallace
Liked this mention in the thread on the Holliday deal at minorleagueball.
“What makes Brett Wallace an OB machine by the way ? Is this claim based on his lofty college totals ? Because his minor league totals don´t justify the hype.
Wallace – who turns 23 next month – has 33 BB and 350 AB so far between two levels in 2009. His OBP is .368 overall. Certainly good but hardly what I´d consider as a future "on base machine" in the Kevin Youkilis mold.
Actually, in his great – albeit brief – 2008 debut as an older player in Low A ball and for 53 AB in Double A he drew 19 BB while having 202 AB.
Unless there´s a huge spike in his walk rate, Wallace would have to emerge as a consistent .320+ BA major league bat to become an OB machine.
Leaving first impressions (i.e. 2008 debuts) aside, how does Wallace´s production compare to that of fellow Arizona State alumni and 2008 1st round draft pick, Mets 1b Ike Davis in the tougher offensive environments of the FSL & EL ? Davis is half a year younger than Wallace by the way but has hit 12 HR (vs. 11) and drawn 48 BB (vs. 33 from Wallace) so far this season for an overall OBP of .381. Is Ike Davis a future on base machine ?
I´m not making a case for Ike Davis being considered a top 20 prospect but rather for Wallace being downgraded seriously."

Also of note,
In AA this year, Davis has a 30.2% K rate and a .198 ISO while Wallace had 26.6% K rate and a .156 ISO in AA. But ignoring the 200 ABs or so before this season in a sample 500+ AB is flawed thinking, but I get his point. Davis has bounced back from his brutal debut but both have flaws. All and all, I like this post, I didn’t think about this comp and it’s an interesting one.

I think davis gets some slack for last year
due to an injury he had?

I can say this with great conviction
Wallace >>> Davis; based upon watching them at Arizona State.
I have not watched either of them since they were drafted so I can’t speak to any development that has occurred since then, but in watching them extensively for 3 years, Wallace was the far more impressive player.
In throwing last year out as an abberation, the numbers though certainly suggest that Davis is catching up quickly.

maybe so
but man does Wallace carry a wide load. He shoulda been a pitcher a la El Squid or Broxton.

I think he gets a bum wrap for it.
His build hasn’t changed since college and he is far more fluid and athletic than his body type would lead you to believe.
He is certainly faster and more athletic than Davis despite looking like an Olympic Shotputter.

Wallace/Davis
their last year at ASU:
Davis .385/.457/.742
Wallace .410/.526/.753.
Prior to that it wasn’t even close. Interesting in that Sickels had Davis just a sliver ahead of Wallace coming into the draft. Maybe the ISO, but that is so close and I believe John used the dreaded “intuitive.” And Wallace had much better stats than Ike prior to their last year at ASU.
I wasn’t comparing wallace to davis athletically, as Ike is slow. I was just saying, wow, that’s lard ass, but really more just, uh, big-boned.

Yeah, I don't know where Sickles came up with that.
I’m no talent scout, but Wallace was far more impressive across the board in his career despite the fine Junior Year that Ike had. Perhaps maybe that’s why I’m not a baseball scout?
Wallace is definitely a large dude and, uh hum, most of it is absolutely parked around back.

So he's the Mets prospect member of the Reggie Cleveland All-Stars?

We should have a triple Ewing Theory going
Why aren’t we in first place?
by Mount17 on Jul 24, 2009 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think the city of New York used the Ewing (Tiki?) theory up when the Giants won Super Bowl
(still pumping my fist!)

He actually predicted we would be about 3-4 weeks ago
which shows the value of the Ewing Theory. It should be renamed the “Exception to the Rule” theory.

Maybe we haven't lost enough players yet.
Johan and Dubs are still healthy.

I despise the "Ewing Theory"
for the simple reason that Ewing led Georgetown to a championship in 1984. Fuck Simmons for that one.
