this is one of those pitching match-ups where I used to say you have to win this one.

Now I expect a 2-1 astros win, assuming the mets can even muster one against Mr. Hampton.

Not to mention that the mets don’t “have” to win anything, because the season is over anyway

Wright will homer tonight

I’m calling it. Lefty pitcher, short porch in left. If he can wait on a changeup, he could golf one out. If he doesn’t homer at some point this weekend, with 3 sub-par starters going for Hou, well then he may finish the year with 5.

Chris Carlin is such a bland tv personality

Matt Yallof/Chris Cotter were better.

Lopez wants it away, and it's hit deep to left center, Andruw Jones on the run, this one has a chance... home run!!, Mike Piazza!, and the Mets lead 3 to 2!!

I've never been so angry watching a baseball game.

I don’t even mind losing, but we’re losing with Tatis and Francoeur in the lineup. I really wouldn’t mind watching a team with Nick Evans, Pagan, and Church in the outfield, Wright, Cora, Castillo and Murphy in the infield. But we go out of our way to put absolute shit on the field

From the NY Daily News......

Assistant GM John Ricco confirms that John Maine has asked for a second opinion with Dr. James Andrews next week because of continued shoulder discomfort. Maine won’t throw a ball until the visit. Ricco indicated that the organizational belief is that scar tissue is causing a pinched nerve.

Billy Wagner threw a two-inning, 40-pitch simulated game in Port St. Lucie today. He’ll repeat that a few times, then be in rehab games soon.

Jose Reyes is expected to run the bases soon, and the Mets believe he’ll be the first significant player on the DL to return.

Gary Sheffield significantly tested his hamstring today. Assuming he feels okay, he expects to be in the lineup tomorrow, and not on the DL to make room for Jon Niese.

Alex Cora (thumb) said he’s good to play, too.

My ideal Mets game goes something like this

Wright 2-2 with 2 HR, 2 BB
Castillo 2-2 with 2 BB
Santana / Pelfrey / Niese 7-9 strong innings

Francoeur / Reed / Sullivan / Pagan / Tatis / Berroa / Cora / Santos 0-4 with 4 K’s and a misdeed in the field
Livan and Perez rocked in the first inning
