Mets Community Prospect List: #9
With 54% of the vote, the winner of the round eight is: Ike Davis
Welcome to the Amazin' Avenue Mets Community Prospect List, where you get to vote on who the Mets best prospects are. Every poll will include eight candidates for the next spot on the list, as well as a separate group of testers. Testers will be rotated into polls with each update, replacing each poll's winner and any name that's not getting enough votes. If there's a particular tester you'd like to see added to the poll, or a name not on the testers list that you feel belongs there, voice your support in the comments section and it will be duly noted.
The list so far:
- Fernando Martinez
- Jenrry Meija
- Brad Holt
- Wilmer Flores
- Jonathon Niese
- Reese Havens
- Josh Thole
- Ike Davis
To replace Ike Davis, Scott Moviel has been added to the candidates. This will be the only tester added in this round. In no particular order, here are the candidates for the Community's #9 Mets prospect:
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis
- Brant Rustich
- Ruben Tejada
- Jeurys Familia
- Jefry Marte
- Dillon Gee
- Robert Carson
- Scott Moviel
Testers - Kyle Allen, Eddie Kunz, Francisco Pena, Eric Beaulac, Michael Antonini, Zach Lutz, Nick Carr, Scott Shaw, Cesar Puello, Sean Ratliff, Lucas Duda, Roy Merritt

Went w/Familia
Clearly I’m in the minority on this one but I prefer him to Tejada at this point. I realize that Tejada is two steps ahead of him at the same age but I’m concerned that he has yet to show anything at the plate. I don’t see any reason at this point to think that he’ll be more than a slick fielder with an anemic bat. Familia, on the other hand, has been quite impressive in his first 130+ IP and figures to earn a promotion to St Lucie very soon. I’ll take Familia right now.

I think Familia and Carson have both convinced me to have them in the next few votes.

I disagree
He’s way ahead of lots of toolsy middle infield prospects who went on to success, and his plate discipline has been solid. He’s a number of adjustments away, but it seems like the ones he has left are more about physical development than skill development.

Your last sentence may be true
but right now I don’t see enough to be convinced. His plate discipline has not been horrid but I wouldn’t call his BB% (7.6 in ‘08, 8.9 in ’09) and his BB/K (.53 in ’08, .70 in ’09) “solid” thus far. His sub-100 ISO will perhaps improve with time but his speed scores aren’t particularly impressive right now (sub-5 each year) and speed is essential for him to be anything more than a singles hitter. At this point, his future at the plate looks something like Alexi Casilla to me.

I actually think it's Rustich
But I voted Tejada because I thought he might get some competition from Marte or Gee. (Is that cheating?)
But apparently, I didn’t need to.
