Zach Lutz Heating Up?
After hitting his fifth homer of the year last night for St. Lucie, Lutz extended his hitting streak to 11 games today by going 2 for 3 with two walks, a stretch in which he's also walked six times and struck out just four times. He's hitting .270 / .382 / .418 on the season. He just turned 23, and injuries stalled his early professional career, but there may yet be some untapped prospect potential here, especially if he can ever find his power stroke.

Yup, mine too
He’s in a tough spot in the organization though, being that he’s behind Lucas Duda, Shawn Bowman and now Ike Davis as well. Lutz is a better prospect than Duda or Bowman, but not by so much that the org needs to shake things up to move Lutz along, especially since Lutz is only showing some nice signs, but not exactly lighting the world on fire.

Ha
Hey now, I never even got a chance to vote for Davis in the community list, probably because I’ve been so inundated with your anti-Davis propaganda. Figured you’d appreciate a Lutz update though. I’m still curious where all his doubles are. 5 HR and just 8 2Bs in half an FSL season has to just be statistical noise right? Those numbers don’t match up at all. I’m still wiling to give him the benefit of the doubt, it just sucks that Bingo’s roster is like, 80% corner infielders right now, otherwise I’m guessing he’d probably be making a much better (relative) accounting of himself up there.

How is he supposed to be defensively?
Any idea?

Good question
I’m really not sure, but I feel like I’ve read a few reports suggesting he’s a fine third baseman, but doesn’t have the range to play up the middle. So he’s probably got solid hands and instincts with below average speed. But I don’t really have any evidence to back that up, so take it with a grain of salt.

If he really heats up
and plays a good third, perhaps he can become good trade bait in the off season.
