Around SBN: Ohio State And Florida Target 2013 Receiver Recruits

I realise there's probably a bit of sentimentality here, and a sense of wanting past wrongs righted, but would it be beyond the realms of possibility to trade F!, Brad Holt and Ike Davis to the Indians, Victor Martinez to the Rays, and Kazmir/Crawford to the Mets? Mets seem to be the only ones who could conceivably make the payroll room for those two, and it's not just a deal for this year. Just wondering...

I don't know why the Rays

would make that deal. I know they think they need a bat and want Martinez, but I think they want him in complement to Crawford and then they would look to move one of the two in the offseason.

But if it were on the table, I’d probably make that deal as a Mets fan. Crawford is near the F! ceiling, Kazmir is still young (and it makes me feel like we can erase some bad memories), Holts not MLB ready until at least 2011 and Ike Davis, while he’s looking great is exactly the kind of players that good franchises can get in free agency.

Ike

“and Ike Davis, while he’s looking great is exactly the kind of players that good franchises can get in free agency”

Since when have the Mets been a good franchise?

You got me there

I guess it was wishful thinking.

Although if the Mets went into a season with a good 1B available and 1B as the only need, I’m somewhat confident Omar would get him.

"Holts not MLB ready until at least 2011"

That’s a pretty huge assumption right there. He isn’t playing well, but hardly anything to say he’s at least a year and a half away in AA.

ain't had enough...

2011? Really?

I’d say mid 2010 is more than fair.

I should've specified that

he’s not going to be helping the Mets until 2011 – because I don’t really see many scenarios where Omar/New 2010 GM uses Holt in Queens next year (with 25 man Rosters).

If Omar is still in charge Holt’s probably (based on level/age/Omar’s history) – MLB Spring Training – Extended Spring – AA – AAA in mid season – September call-up.

I do not want Scott Kazmir

He is injury prone and inconsistant, his velocity is down. It was a mistake to trade him for Victor Zambrano, and it would be a mistake to trade for him now.
However, I would make the deal if Carl Crawford is included. Crawford and Reyes at the top of the lineup would be great.

Lopez wants it away, and it's hit deep to left center, Andruw Jones on the run, this one has a chance... home run!!, Mike Piazza!, and the Mets lead 3 to 2!!

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
