Is this game actually getting in?
"We have to find a way to play better, there's no doubt. Overall. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Offense, defense, pitching -- we have to find a way to play better. The reality of this is, coming here to Pittsburgh and being swept -- personally, I feel embarrassed." -- Carlos Beltran
Looking at the radar....
its one large batch of rain moving through the area. It moved through my area (25 miles SW of NYC) in about 1:30 – 2 hrs. If they wait a bit they should be able to get the game in.
Omar and Jerry, dumbest tandem in baseball and winning in spite of them.
Lineup I was hoping to see
1. Crawford RF
2. Reyes SS
3. Wright 3B
etc
link
does anyone have a link to watch the game?

So, is everyone happy that Omar did absolutely nothing to improve the team at the deadline, again?
God forbid he improve the team from the AAA garbage we’ve been running out there
What would you have liked him to do?
Compromise the farm system so we finish 15 out instead of 16?

Not every trade that could have been made would’ve cost all of our prospects
For god’s sakes, the Reds, who are much worse off than we are, improved themselves
He could’ve made at least a minor move, I mean it’s not like we’re 20 games out of playoff contention
The reds are on the hook for all of rolen's 11 million next year
That move likely eliminated several potential moves this off-season. That 11 million could very easily have been better utilized for a team like the reds.

That Cincy trade is exactly what NOT to do
Trade a couple of talented players for a costly veteran who won’t help them win this year. So yes, I’m very happy Omar did nothing.
Th Reds are stupid as hell
Who trades a good young thirdbaseman who has proven himself in the majors, a good young reliever, and a decent prospect for an old third baseman due $11 million in 2010? Stupid. Absolutely stupid.
The +1.5 wins they’ll gain this year will be nothing compared to how much they’ll lose down the road.

I'm not sure they're worrying about 2010 payroll yet
Omar can easily reduce it this offseason if he needs too…there’s plenty of dead money coming off the books.

at this point we dont even know what we need since we dont know who will come back when
and what they’ll play like when they do. We would have been blindly flailing to fill every hole on our team. I’m glad we didnt burn prospects when there’s no way of knowing what our needs will be 2 months from now.

I would say unless we win the next 3 series and at least stay 5 or less games back, they will shut Reyes down for the year.
probably
and i welcome that decision
by KeithsMoustache on Jul 31, 2009 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions
honestly, I think if only Beltran and Wagner come back, we'll be OK.
a tentative Reyes will hinder this team more than not, and a rehabbing Delgado will take at bats away from Murph. I’m cool with Beltran and Wagner for reinforcements.
As much as I'd love to see the playoffs,
realistically I’m expecting to see the last Mets game this season in September. I’d rather see the front office take the 2010 approach with Beltran.

There’s only one other SS that might be better than him….
the only reason i can see is that reyes seems a bit injury prone
but i wouldnt advocate trading him so much as carrying a good backup

Yes....his best days are behind him.
but still……I wish we would have had him.
disagree on Reyes being a better hitter, but hey, whatever.
Reyes has been the better hitter for some time
Jeter might have had the edge on him in 2006, but Reyes killed him on D that year, so that he was worth much more. Plus Jeter playing against the short porch.

Reyes for the havock he reeks on the basebaths is something special. He drives opposing pitchers out of their minds.
His range isn't even passable anymore.

Wow...
Via Twitter, Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Padres almost dealt Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers for James Loney, Russell Martin, Blake DeWitt, James McDonald and Ivan Dejesus. Wow.
Danny Knobler of CBS Sports confirms that the division rivals considered a blockbuster deal involving those players.

ridiculous
I guess that would be buying low on Martin and DeWitt, huh?
On second thought, that’s just about the same amount of production going out as going in. Very interesting trade.
ain't had enough...
insanity
This would’ve been the biggest in-division talent swap (that I can think of, at least) since division play began. It’d be hard to assess fairly, but I think I like the Padre end of the deal better — Gonzalez will likely start declining sometime pretty soon, selling high on Bell is a good idea, and buying low on Martin and DeWitt will net big returns later (while Loney is just short-term filler).
Padres would have won that one
They’ve made McDonald a starter and would have DeJesus at short for the future, along with Loney and Martin.
I don’t see what value they get in DeWitt. That package is so MLB-ready I would’ve preferred a prospect or two instead.

Yes but Loney is their worst regular
so replacing him w/Gonzalez would be a huge upgrade. Trading Martin and DeWitt at the low end of their values doesn’t make much sense but this isn’t a terrible idea in theory.

Guys
Mike Silva here. Think your off base on Twitter. I thought it was a dopey tool, but the amount of baseball information shared was incredible. Never remember so much information coming out at one time.
As for NYBD being full of S***
We reported the rumblings that we heard. I assure you that every one of those players were discussed. The Mets, as Omar said, decided to pass. Minaya has said he turned down big deals. I believe Victor Martinez was that deal.
As always – enjoy your site.
You related to Anderson Silva of Mixed Martial Arts by any chance?
Can you kick omar’s ass for us?
and these "rumblings" included a confirmed trade for LaRoche?
You reported that as a done deal, not a rumor.

As far as Wally Backman. I think if you spent time talking to the guy you would change your mind. Don’t let inaccurate media perception cloud your judegment
Can you explain

This was written today on NYBD:
Joe Demayo just told me he heard Mets will be obtaining Adam LaRoche from Boston
This is not rumor, this is not innuendo. It’s a statement that the Mets will trade for Adam LaRoche. And then it didn’t happen. What gives? Why even write that? Page hits?

Go back to Demayo’s off season and you will see. I can find a link if you give me some time. Whether you want to believe the rumors or not, well I can’t convince naysays. Why would Jon Heyman cite us 3 times over the last year? Including our site breaking the Omar Minaya extension?

One of the biggest problems of the Mets fans (and most other teams’ fans I suppose) is that they grew up listening to WFAN and consciously or subconsciously had their views about the game shaped by it. Good thing

Release Berroa, just for that at bat
The guy has 6 f—king walks and you swing at the 1st pitch? Moron
Disgusting...
I would’ve just left Livan in there if that’s the best we can do off the bench…
Berroa
great baseball mind
pinch hit against a pitcher that has control issues, and swing at the first pitch
You could almost see it if he went up there looking fastball and got one
But he swung at a curve two inches off the ground.
Wow.
That was an awful at bat.

Just saw that
my man just went and sat down. That was nasty.
