This really is about as close to a must win as you can have in July

The pitching match-ups for the LA series are horrid for us and we could very concievably be 7 or 8 out by the end of next week if we don’t get it going.

We need a $140 million performance from Johan today and some guys to step up with the bats.

Agreed

We can’t afford to be four out here.

How many 1-2-3 innings do we have to have before Jerry examines the top of his line-ups?

one of the most overrated payers ever. The way they talk about him, you’d think he was as good as a hitter Ruth, better ss than A-rod, and Ozzie Smith in the field. That said, he doesn’t not deserve to go this year.

I feel like I was sold a bill of goods

I’m not seeing a very good offensive player. I was lead to believe that there was very good plate discipline, and further that he could hit.

I’ve seen very little evidence of either. It’s not just the lack of hits, he hasn’t gotten on base. He doesn’t look like he belongs to me. I haven’t seen much to help me understand why so much patience with him.

Blanton is pitching the high strike and its almost that the Mets hitters think its a bandbox so all pitchers would automatically throw low.

I think this ‘pop up’ ending in a home run’ nonsense has got into their heads.

I think the Mets pitching has kept them in it for the most part.

In my opinion when Beltran gets back a lot of the ship will be righted. More than what Beltran will contribute. I think wright will also pick up at the same time.

Its just an opinion.

the premise on which it is based can be disproved. And of course you have the complete right to disagree. (as I am sure most do here)

I will be overjoyed if I am proven wrong because Wright will be hitting, Mets will be scoring runs and most importantly Mets will be winning crucial games.

I still believe Omar was correct. And I think Wright may grow into that player with continued success. But he is not there yet.

Remember how horrible Florida was, what, two or three weeks ago. If you can put together 7-9 wins over a ten game stretch post all-star break you’re right back into everything… as long as you tread water now.

… the Mets were 9.5 games back after the first week in August in 1969. But somehow, unless everybody comes back but then, I don’t see this team, this year, doing it. I’m just so discouraged.

Yes that should calm us further

The ‘08 squad was basically full strength whereas this year’s version has been hobbled by injuries. That suggests that the club might be better this year than they were last year after the reinforcements return. And it’s entirely conceivable that Beltran, Reyes, Perez and Maine will all be back in the next two or three weeks, with Delgado, Wagner and Putz potentially back in early-mid August. Add Jon Niese and a possible trade and suddenly it’s a team that can run off a ten game winning streak.

The only way the Mets can acquire significant help without mortgaging the future is by taking on someone’s bad contract. That will not happen so no immediate help is on the way.
