I feel like I was sold a bill of goods
I’m not seeing a very good offensive player. I was lead to believe that there was very good plate discipline, and further that he could hit.
I’ve seen very little evidence of either. It’s not just the lack of hits, he hasn’t gotten on base. He doesn’t look like he belongs to me. I haven’t seen much to help me understand why so much patience with him.

are you suggesting that there has been some fundamental alteration in Wright’s character over the last two years that would suggest that he wilts under pressure now whereas he thrived under pressure in 2007?

is that he’s not good enough to singularly carry a ballclub of 25 men when he’s the only productive hitter in the lineup. That’s actually probably true because NOBODY is capable of doing that.

Bonds is one of the top 5 players in baseball history
Pujols has been the best player in baseball the last four years and the only reason he wasn’t before that is because of Bonds.

who are likely among the ten greatest players in the history of the game. And I’m not sure how you also suggested a guy who’s played one full season in the league and is less than a year younger than DW5. Also, his team scores fewer runs than the Mets.

Adrian Gonzalez has “carried” the Padres to 35-45? Upton has “carried” the Diamondbacks to 32-49?

I think the Mets pitching has kept them in it for the most part.
The hitting is in trouble.
In my opinion when Beltran gets back a lot of the ship will be righted. More than what Beltran will contribute. I think wright will also pick up at the same time.

I will be overjoyed if I am proven wrong because Wright will be hitting, Mets will be scoring runs and most importantly Mets will be winning crucial games.

Yes that should calm us further
The ‘08 squad was basically full strength whereas this year’s version has been hobbled by injuries. That suggests that the club might be better this year than they were last year after the reinforcements return. And it’s entirely conceivable that Beltran, Reyes, Perez and Maine will all be back in the next two or three weeks, with Delgado, Wagner and Putz potentially back in early-mid August. Add Jon Niese and a possible trade and suddenly it’s a team that can run off a ten game winning streak.
