Halladay and Rios for the farm?
"If you were Halladay, would you approve a trade to a team that currently is without center fielder Carlos Beltran, shortstop Jose Reyes and first baseman Carlos Delgado? A team that hasn't exactly distinguished itself the past two Septembers?
To get Halladay, the Mets would need to empty their farm system of their top remaining prospects — outfielder Fernando Martinez, shortstop Wilmer Flores, right-hander Brad Holt"
Would you even fathom this? Would this make us legit contenders for the next 2 years? Can we continue to stand pat without me having a heart attack?

I love how
Rosenthal never misses an opportunity to dig the mets. “Would you approve a trade to pitch with Johan Santana and get games closed by Fransico Rodriguez and have David Wright, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes on your team?”
Don't forget the obligitory "September Collapse" reference

But getting down to brass tacks
You’d have to consider doing this deal if you’re Minaya, in a “whatever it takes” way.
agreed
I think thatd be too much to give up for such little time. If you can extend him than look more into it.
"I told him the next time he does that, I’m going to get my blade out and cut him, right on the field. Hey, I’m a gangsta now. You go gangsta on me, I’m gonna have to get you now."

Tough Call
The opportunity to pair the best right-handed pitcher in baseball with the best left-handed pitcher in baseball, working in a decidedly pitcher friendly park, is very intriguing.
If we could extend Halladay, I would give it a lot of thought. I highly doubt that we would pull the trigger on this now, but maybe this is one to explore in the offseason.

Even if we came up with some plan
Where the contract is back-loaded or whatever, it will still be putting all your eggs into one basket. We need to fill multiple holes over the next few seasons with only a little room left on the payroll.

Agreed
Even if we could take on the salary, it would mean we wouldn’t be able to fill any other holes in FA, and we’d have no prospects left to fill those holes or to trade to fill those holes. And at Halladay’s age I don’t think that’s worth the risk.
i would do it
we would have the two best pitchers.and who knows what F! will be or holt or flores

its nice to think about but it ain't going to happen
whatever we think of our prospects is irrelevant. The Blue Jays will think they can get much better prospects from other teams. I hate to say it but I think he will be wearing a Phillies, Yankees or Red Sox uniform by the end of the summer.
The more that comes out, the more that it looks like this is happening.
I just hope the Phillies or Dodgers don’t get him.
They would be monsters to compete with.

No
Too old to trade the whole farm. You’re only buying one more year than Santana and F!Mart by himself is worth more than the Santana package.
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa

So basically Flores, Holt & FMart for Rios & Halladay?
I’d do that in a heartbeat.
Would Omar have to wear a mask and carry a gun though?
Halladay is signed through 2010 and if history is anything to go by is pretty easy when negotiating contract extensions he also figures to age pretty well he’s been a true workhorse all his career and never had a worrying injury.
If Rios performs to expectations his contract is good value, still young, has upside and is a good defender.
You’d be looking at having the best righty and best lefty in baseball anchoring your rotation.
I think if the Mets, Dodgers or Phillies get him then they automatically become the best team in the NL.
