It's amazing, isn't it
how we will settle for “6 innings” these days.
what ever happened to starters going deep into a game.
For Ollie, 6 innings is going deep. To expect more than that is a bit too much from him.
It’s like wishing he won’t walk any batter.
It's more amazing
That we’ll settle for 6 innings from a pitcher making $12 million.
7 strong
Maybe the closer Ollie is to home (Mexico) the better he pitches?
Check that USA/Mexico World Cup qualifier
Ollie will be done 4 2/3 while checking scores b/w innings…
ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting
Sheffield and Feliciano were both claimed of waivers, but both pulled back.
Now, neither can be traded.
I can understand Feliciano, but why the fuck wouldn’t you dump Sheffield for any kind of prospect you can get?
Idiocy at it’s finest
Because he would retire
If he was traded. He does not want to leave N.Y

If they plan on competing next year,
it would be foolish to rid themselves of one of their best relievers
We aren't competing for anything
as long as Omar and Jerry are at the helm
No it wouldn't
Trading a reliever for a prospect is almost always a good move when you are not competing that year. For example, Feliciano was pretty bad last year, he has been great this year and was in 2006, was mediocre in 2007. Relievers, for the most part, are a crapshoot.
They probably were claimed by teams that didn't even really want them
Just didn’t want other teams to have them. So the Mets can either give them away, which makes no sense since Feliciano could be useful next year and Sheff costs nothing to hold onto, or give them away for no return aside from salary relief.

Being claimed doesn't mean the other team was willing to trade prospects for them
Toronto got nothing for Rios. Claimed players can be: traded, pulled back or just given away for nothing.
it also depends on who did the claiming.
I am sure the Mets dont’ want to trade Pedro or Sheff to a team that can come back and haunt them next year.
Not even
They could have been claimed by teams that have no interest. Neither has a cumbersome salary, so there’s no significant risk in any team claiming them. Its possible the teams that put in the claims were simply willing to “take them off our hands” and offer nothing in return, and were really just doing so to block another team from getting them.

i live in tucson
thought about going to the game last night, saw the lineup, saved myself a waste of money and continued dissappointment in this team
My girlfriend was going to get me Mets tickets for my birthday
I told her I didnt want to see those losers play.
We went to Camden Yards instead, got a hotel room, and got drunk for the same price as 2 tickets to Citi. Hooray for choices.
WTF Gameday
“Augie Ojeda triples on a sharp fly ball…”
What in the hell is a sharp fly ball?
fly ball with broken bat pieces coming out of it?
i know i’d get out of the way of that.
by KeithsMoustache on Aug 12, 2009 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions
Unless it was a Sosa hit
Then I’d run up and grab all the pieces of super ball that flew out, so I could entertain myself while Ollie walks in 5 runs.

Ha
When I watch on tv from the off angle center field camera I am always 100% right on ball / strike calls.
If he's getting squeezed
It’s probably the first time in his career he’s even been close enough to the plate to be squeezed.

2nd to Houston
Now at 107 for the year, Astros have 109.
Mainly thanks to Tejada
who’s hit into like 19.
They lead in ground balls I think
so logically they should. But illogically, Manuel hardly ever hit and runs.

I'm entretaining the idea of picking the next GM through:
1) a reality show
2) a lottery ticket among AA posters
3) randomly picking a beggar in the street (Eddie Murph movie)
I would personally go with #2
That would increase my chances of getting picked. On the other hand, we could end up with a Grission-overload team, depending on who is picked.
i like #2
