awful luck/defense

parnell had 2 choppers and a bloop fall in.

then gave up a real single to plate 2.

then an infield hit to ahern that a real SS makes a play on.

then an infield hit to ahern that castillo didn’t feel like covering 2nd on.

then he got tired and gave up a bomb to mccann.

basically, a lesson in why defense is important and should be almost ignored in a pitcher’s performance.

Well I stepped away again, and the game got out of hand.

I just caught up with all the Parnell bashing,

My two cents:

He has a good arm. He needs to use his secondary pitches. That is a mix of himself (experience), his catcher calling a good game, and his pitching coach working with him offline. In other words…..since he is with the Mets……he’s on his own.

I am not down on Parnell just because of this. If you are going to learn on the job, now is the time to do it. I’ll give him 2 or 3 more starts before I join the bashers.

His minor league numbers are not good, but this team is going nowhere, and all pitchers not named Johan suck, so I’m fine with giving Parnell a shot for the rest of the year.

We have nothing to lose. It’s not like we need to see more out of Livan or even Ollie.

Fucking Braves

We suck so bad, we can’t even compete with Atlanta or Florida.

Fucking Marlins have a payroll of $21,000.00, play in front of 35 fans in a football stadium, and still kick our ass routinely and have won 2 WS since we won our last.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college. Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing. "How'd we do it? Mirrors!"

I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties. She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo. (click to embiggen)
