Jeff Francoeur : Does his Defense at RF justify the Mets possibly keeping him?
I mean...I know this argument has been done to death as far as Church and Frenchy go. But I see Frenchy has a way better arm than Church did. We all know about OBP and all that business regarding Frenchy so I won't open that can of worms again. I just want to get everyone's opinion on whether his DEFENSE being good enough to warrant the Mets holding on to him in the foreseeable future.

Well Church was better defensively.

No
While his throwing arm is apparently as valuable as ever, his range has diminished. And like Evan said, Church is just as good as Frenchy in the field (if not better).

And
Church can play a bit of center in a pinch. And he’s actually better than replacement level offensively.

No.
Because his defense isn’t good.

Does anyone know what the weighting is
in better defensive stats of range vs arm for outfielders?

It's not so much weighting
it just tries to calculate the runs saved by each and add.

Ah ok, so
there’s no such thing as a ‘hidden’ awesome arm, really.

I think UZR and maybe +/-
account for baserunners not taking an extra base because an OF has a good throwing arm.

I believe that only applies to the batter in UZR's case.
I’m pretty sure plus/minus does factor that in.

He is bad defensively, outside of the good arm, bad range
he turns too many singles into doubles and doubles into triples. He is bad. Church was much better.

He just missed that one in the lights
It’s not like he lets balls get pass him and roll to the wall or something

He pretty much sucks, JH.

Well, he definitely let that one roll to the wall.
He didn’t lose it in the lights. He just screwed up.

Garret Anderson's triple in atlanta is one, i know there was another play where he bobbled the ball and the batter got to second.

3rd base

Today's perfromance shows while he'll never be good enough to be a regular player.
He has played “well” since he’s been here and it’s still not enough to be an everyday RF. It’s a shame because he has some talent, but he will never succeed if he sees 1 pitch every other at bat.
Atlanta fans coined the “Failcoeur” nickname and I don’t like borrowing anything from them, so I shall henceforth refer to him as “One Pitch”.
