While You Were Out: Amazin' Avenue Week In Review (8/16-8/22)
I stopped watching today's game soon after Ollie "$36 Million Titanic Chernobyl" Perez's 1st inning and saw Inglourious Basterds. Go see that movie, it's outstanding. The week's links:
- Jurassic Mets - I re-imagine a great scene from Jurassic Park as a meeting of the Mets' Brainstorm. I like to think Ben Baumer dresses and acts like Ian Malcolm.
- A Simple Request - With news of David Wright's targeted Sept. 1st return, it looks like the Mets won't heed Sam's request.
- The Rise And Fall Of Daniel Murphy - Eric examines the Irish Hammer's up and down Mets tenure.
- Mets Sign Matz - This is good news. The bad news is the failure to sign 2 other top picks, while continuing to pay salaries to the likes of Alex Cora and Cory Sullivan.
- Medical Entry: Concussions - The resident medical expert of AA, svmehta, provides some information about concussions in light of David Wright's meeting with a 94 mph fastball last weekend.
- The Race to .300 Begins - Wincoeur vs. Omir, the race to a .300 OBP. Winner gets a giant stuffed Marvin the Martian.
- The Importance Of The 2010 Offseason For The Mets' Offense - Sam provides some early suggestions for the upcoming offseason. I'm on board with acquiring DJ Ny Ny Ny Ny Nyj Nice AKA Nyjer Morgan.
- Make Frankie A Relief Ace - To avoid paying Frankie Rodriguez the mother of all vesting options, I advocate removing him from the traditional closer role.
- Omir Wins The Prize - Mission accomplished. Usain Bolt would be proud. Wincoeur, not to be outdone, hit the .300 mark as well.
- You Know Things Are Rough For The Mets When... - It's not easy being blue and orange.
- Wagner Claimed By Red Sox - Mark provides some insight on Wagner's future.
- A Reminder Of Why ERA Is Bad - In case anyone needed it. Sam compares Rick Porcello and Mike Pelfrey's seasons, both statistically and how they are portrayed in the media.

In light of Omar and Jerry returning, it's time to boycott this train-wreck up until and through next season, if necessary ...
This team shouldn’t sell a single walk-up ticket the rest of the way.
Meh
I have a ton of free time and I’d like to see the new ballpark.
