mlb.com: Deal for Wagner hits potential roadblock
Apparently, the Red Sox aren't agreeing to the conditions under which Wagner will wave his no trade clause. I can only assume one of those conditions is "kill Papelbon".

got damn wagner
if we keep him and he cons us into not giving him arb, that’ll be fucked up.
though he is just using his leverage, so i can’t really blame him.

It's late, so I need a quick refresher
Can Wags simply decline arbitration if we offer it? There’s plenty of ways for this to go, and I don’t see us getting anything back for him in the rest of them.

If he declines arbitration we get picks when he signs later
that key is whether or not the Mets offer arbitration. In Wagner’s case, I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

Yes
Omar will get killed if he gives up Wagner here for nothing. The Mets need a decent return, or they keep him and offer arb. If the Red Sox can’t get the same opportunity, there is no reason for them to give up anything good, so Wagner stays a Met.
It’s still worth the $3.5M the Mets will pay Wagner to get those picks. There’s just no reason for this trade to happen at this point.

I'm just going to assume the typo in the link is intentional
But even if it’s not, it’s good. Future headlines include:

I didn't even notice that
Is Wanger just jerking us around?

I even made it in the body of the fanshot and fixed it. Always good for a laugh, at least.

Perhaps Billy and the Sox meet half way and agree on a declined option?
The Mets really need to turn Wagner into assets somehow. They’ve committed to paying $20M+ to relief pitchers this season; they must get value back., because they sure haven’t gotten it on the field.
