WHAT HAPPENED
I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THE GAME STARTED
But I guess it’s better when the pain happens suddenly, as opposed to mulling it over and thinking about it and dreading it.

Could you guys please bet them once in this series?
If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).
Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.

talk about setting somebody up for failure
“hey… general consensus is that you’re a reliever, you have an inconsistent second pitch, no third pitch, and difficulty pitching to lefties. … let’s make you a starter, and then start you against the phillies!”

You would think, after almost a whole season, these SNY camera guys could get the right angle so we can see these balls down the right field line when they’re happening, as opposed to waiting for the replay…..

Hypothetical case for the offseason:
Assume the Mets will spend most of their $ resources on SP, but can trade for 1 power bat. This power bat can play 1st or the outfield. Your choice of player to trade is Pagan or Murphy. Who do you move ?.

yesterday, Francoeur was our last, best hitter….the only other choice would have been Omir off the bench, but I didn’t see the whole game and I don’t even know if he was available.

under "normal" circumstances, yes.
but with this awful lineup, I can see why they did it.
by fxcarden on Aug 24, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
so then yes,
what rollins said was correct. in fact, most of the commentary i heard (strategy-wise) says that managers will say the only reason you DONT try to steal on that pitch is because you might wind up getting doubled off with a line drive….which happened.
rollins said what most baseball experts agree with: it was not a smart baseball move but the mets had to try something to win the game. quit whining about rollins stating a fact of baseball.

Idea for the Wilpons...
I want to see the new stadium, so I’m going to try to go to the 9/15 game against the Nationals. Painful, huh? Two scrub teams battling for nothing.
So I was thinking, they should sell tickets to the stadium on days when the Mets aren’t playing. I would actually prefer to go then, because it would be less crowded, and I won’t have to be embarrassed and pissed off watching this team butcher the game of baseball for 3 hours.
On an off day, I could spend a pleasant hour or two walking around the ballpark, eat a hot dog, watch the bridge, the planes, etc. Maybe Mr. Met could make an appearance, but that wouldn’t be a deal-breaker.
The only potential problem is the Mets may start drawing bigger crowds to “off days” than they would for game days.
Anyway, it makes a lot of sense to me, since the new stadium is pretty much the only reason people are showing up these days.

I'm sure he'll need Alex Cora surgery in the off season.
torn anything is usually surgery
by fxcarden on Aug 24, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Right, but do they really expect he'll play again this season?
by Mex_17 on Aug 24, 2009 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
whatever "day to day" means.
surely, if he pinch hits with the bad hand, his hamstring will pop.

To be a real Met, Francoeur needs to tear the other thumb, too.
otherwise he’s just a wimp.

jeez
Cliff Lee’s ERA as a philly is 0.68. I know ERA isn’t always looked upon kindly on this site, but that’s still pretty ridiculous

Why, just because we'd need 6 infield hits in a row to score 3 runs?
by Mex_17 on Aug 24, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well, now we need 4, so how many infield hits is that?
