WHAT HAPPENED
I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THE GAME STARTED
But I guess it’s better when the pain happens suddenly, as opposed to mulling it over and thinking about it and dreading it.
"Welcome to Tangares base. You’re just in time for the dance party. I’ve arranged a dancing partner for you. DANCE TO THE DEATH!"
Could you guys please bet them once in this series?
If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).
Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.
Do you mean "beat" them once?
Because we’ve already done that

talk about setting somebody up for failure
“hey… general consensus is that you’re a reliever, you have an inconsistent second pitch, no third pitch, and difficulty pitching to lefties. … let’s make you a starter, and then start you against the phillies!”

Utley fail
Pagan = +10000000 for the hustle.
Howie Rose’s call was classic.
Wayne Hagin = the only way to beat the Phillies is to bat Pagan 1 thru 9.
Run Sheff
You would think, after almost a whole season, these SNY camera guys could get the right angle so we can see these balls down the right field line when they’re happening, as opposed to waiting for the replay…..

For those not listening on WFAN...
you’re missing one hell of a bradcast…
Howie and Wayne have clearly been drinking since yesterday.
Santos Sullivan Hernandez
counting with the Mets: 678888889
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa
Hypothetical case for the offseason:
Assume the Mets will spend most of their $ resources on SP, but can trade for 1 power bat. This power bat can play 1st or the outfield. Your choice of player to trade is Pagan or Murphy. Who do you move ?.
You know your team sucks...

Second that
It’s at least nice to have Sanchez and some hope. It would be nice to have another WR though, he’s got very little to throw to.
i have confidence in the young recievers..
as long as our running backs perform like their capable of.

way to keep’em down to just 3 1st inning runs. Atta boy.
Hey fellas
late arrival, lot of errors up on the board I see. What happened on Pagan’s little league homer? A collision or something?
Chase Utley dropped a pop up
and then made a horrible throw trying to get Pagan at 2nd, which rolled all the way to the tarp, allowing him to score
hey i have an idea
stop pitching to howard today

Jerry the Clown: available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs and unfortunately all Met games as well
Whose brilliant idea was it
to have a guy who had only pitched 2 innings at most in an outing all year just suddenly move to the rotation???
And he's at 79 pitches through 3 innings
Get Socks! on the line, we need him for 4 today.
What kind of Bad News Bears nightmare is this?
Let’s call the game on account of no one appears to give a shit.
Come 1 Sep
They’d better bring up every breathing pitcher from the minors. With this rotation, we’re going to need all.
We’ll have the record for how many pitchers it takes to get through a 9 inning game.
Sigh….

by MetsFan4Decades on Aug 24, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions
it's a terrible play if a stud slugger is batting, and there are more behind him
yesterday, Francoeur was our last, best hitter….the only other choice would have been Omir off the bench, but I didn’t see the whole game and I don’t even know if he was available.
didn't think it was smart
due to chance of frenchy striking out and murphy getting thrown out, wiping otut the tying runner on base
so then yes,
what rollins said was correct. in fact, most of the commentary i heard (strategy-wise) says that managers will say the only reason you DONT try to steal on that pitch is because you might wind up getting doubled off with a line drive….which happened.
rollins said what most baseball experts agree with: it was not a smart baseball move but the mets had to try something to win the game. quit whining about rollins stating a fact of baseball.
I never whined.
Other did.
The thing about J-Roll is that he has a big mouth, but he can usually back up what he says. Wags is the same way. I’m cool with both.
It wasn't enough that they got incredibly lucky
and won the game. He had to rub salt in the wound. And what’s more, he’s wrong.
2009 Mets---Mission: .500!
Takahashi is back?
The lefty that can’t get out lefties? What did Misch get sent down after his 4 innings yesterday?
Needed a fresh arm
With the way we send about a half dozen BP arms out there to finish games, it’s become a revolving door.
Nice reward for those 4 scoreless innings yesterday, huh?

Why not Bostick instead of Mr. Miyagi?
Bostick’s pitched well this year and he’s lefty.
there's a bunch of people who for whatever reason are in the doghouse
Bostick is one of them, also Evans. He should have been up weeks ago, not just with the sept. callups

Idea for the Wilpons...
I want to see the new stadium, so I’m going to try to go to the 9/15 game against the Nationals. Painful, huh? Two scrub teams battling for nothing.
So I was thinking, they should sell tickets to the stadium on days when the Mets aren’t playing. I would actually prefer to go then, because it would be less crowded, and I won’t have to be embarrassed and pissed off watching this team butcher the game of baseball for 3 hours.
On an off day, I could spend a pleasant hour or two walking around the ballpark, eat a hot dog, watch the bridge, the planes, etc. Maybe Mr. Met could make an appearance, but that wouldn’t be a deal-breaker.
The only potential problem is the Mets may start drawing bigger crowds to “off days” than they would for game days.
Anyway, it makes a lot of sense to me, since the new stadium is pretty much the only reason people are showing up these days.
what happened?

Duncan figured out he was tipping his pitches, made an adjustment, and voila !
Struck out 7 in a row at one point in the game.
Similar to the way Rick Peterson “fixed” Zambrano in 10 minutes.
Also, similar to the way Warthen turned bad Ollie into good Ollie………oh wait.

He's had a pretty solid August
lot of extra base hits. This team doesn’t get many of those. He’ll be an okay addition vs. lefties at least.
Evans has never impressed me.
a good August in a dismal year doesn’t exactly make him a top prospect.
Come on we're playing Sullivan and Murphy vs. lefties
that’s pretty bad.
I like Evans even though he hasn't been mashing
That said I’d still rather see him then Valdez/A-Hern

Last year Evans had a .894 OPS vs. lefties
It’s only about 75 Abs, true, but Sully and murph aren’t coming close to that.

I was thinking every other day during batting practice
they should not allow him to swing, just make him stand there and watch pitches come in. That might help.
10 game hitting streak for murph
maybe he’ll make a run at Joe D and keep us interested in Sept. ha-ha.
I was hoping Castillo could make a run at Hamley for BA title
But I’m probably high. He’s looked bad today.
I still think that Redding or Figueroa will throw a no hitter in the last game.
The Mets’ first no-hitter has to be by someone ridiculous.
I think that might be the one that ends up never being equaled
has anyone in the last 20-30 years come close?
"I reject your reality and substitute my own"
-Adam Savage
by blueandorange4life on Aug 24, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Quick math
I just figured a .300 hitter is 4.7M to 1 hit in 56 straight, assuming 4 AB per game. But that’s a specific 56 game set, not counting that streak could start at any point in the 162 game season.
But you're not factoring in that he means business
that lowers the odds at least in half.
I suppose Omir is better than Schneider and his .180 BA.
