What are his batting average platoon splits?
And for the benfeit for us, what about his slugging?

What a controversial stance hating on Cook

I don’t think the guys is funny, but this bottle of haterade is stale. And while I’m ranting, what’s up with the 10 (not picking on just you ghost) or the +10000 or whatever, I mean I barely got aboard the +1 craze as the "1" is just a substitute for people actually having to form a coherent sentence to express their approval of someone’s comment but I’ve learned to kind of get/like the shorthand ala “This;” however, the +10000 just feels like when someone adds extra exclamation points, it’s unnecessary (esp. since we have recs,) unoriginal and seems to annoy only me. Also, what’s the deal with airline food?

by Sokojoe on Aug 30, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Haterade?

I’ve never commented on Dane Cook before, so I wouldn’t classify it as haterade.

I simply made the comment, because I felt that Jerry’s stupidity and Cook’s “comedy” (which is really just him being himself, a natural douchebag) are easily comparable

by Syler on Aug 30, 2009 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Dane Cook sucks. It’s been established. I liked your comment.

by James Kannengieser on Aug 30, 2009 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Who is Dane Cook?

Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa

by GenJackRipper on Aug 30, 2009 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I guess why I dont get the hate for him, not Syler in particular

is exactly like what you said, he suck and everyone knows it. Employee of the Month has a 5.4 on IMDB and Good Luck Chuck has a 5.6. It’s like hating on Carrot Top, Uwe Boll, or Dean Koontz the guys suck at their job but why does that garner hate or one liners.

by Sokojoe on Aug 30, 2009 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And that's counting

the retarded people who give it a 10. The 5 are the product of the folks who are not its target audience hating it while the target audience probably mildly likes it.

If I am thinking of the right person . . .

Dane Cook is basically Hitler, Saddam Hussein and Michael Bay all rolled into one.

OK, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch but, seriously, he’s a joke-stealing (allegedly) hack who is popular for reasons I cannot fathom. This article from The Onion captures his schtick pretty well, considering it is a fake news story:

Word, I just felt like ranting hence the airplane food thing at the end

My favorite comedian, Louis CK, was threated with a suit from Dane Cook in 07 and, during the process CK mentioned that there is a anti-Cook backlash to his popularity. I didn’t realize that jokes mocking Dane Cook were still in is all.

Yeah, my original plan was

to go on several long winded rants about nothing with the first being direct towards to Cook comment but I quickly ran out of steam/a friend brought over a bottle of Jameson and aborted. Apologies for the half assed attempt.

Omir has nothing to prove

we all know how shitty he is, and Jerry knows about short swing
Schneider is a free agent, who gives a shit about him
Thole should play every day

by firejerrynow on Aug 31, 2009 6:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

but....

no catcher plays everyday. especially a rookie one…

plus, santos has played above expectation all season. That is a horrible message to send to these young guys coming in… to bench him all of a sudden.

You dont need to look for things to complain about.

by gbaked on Aug 31, 2009 7:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Santos had no expectation

coming into the season, if you told me Omir Santos was gonna start more than half of our games I’d be like WTF what happpened to Castro?

"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"

by firejerrynow on Aug 31, 2009 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i would prob have assumed

that castro was hurt, like he has been every season (not to imply that I wanted him gone, he should not have been traded).

Santos is not an answer, but you gotta give the journeyman props. He earned himself a new contract somewhere as a backup (not for a contender, but somewhere) and he will earn his living playing ball for a few more years.

On this team, now with no playoff aspirations, he should be splitting time with Thole, so we can see what we have. Maybe the two of them together are our tandem next season? Maybe Santos plays out the rest of the year hot and gets himself another shot…

either way, no way does a rookie coming from AA move into the everyday catcher spot. You can argue if it should or should not happen… but fact is it doesnt. He should be platooning…

by gbaked on Aug 31, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The problem is he shouldn't be platooning

Having him split time is maybe okay because of his age/the physical toll but having him platoon is just hurting his development. He needs to learn to hit major league pitchers of both hands at some point and what better time than a situation where the outcomes dont matter?

by Gina on Aug 31, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

In other words...

the opposite of the way Jerry plans to use them.

by JoshNY on Aug 31, 2009 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was thinking this at first

but Manuel never said that the reason Thole would be limited to batting against lefties was so that Santos wouldn’t have to face them. Even if that were his thinking, though, I agree with everyone else here that it would be dumb.

by TheBigStapler on Aug 31, 2009 9:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Problem is

you know Schneid will somehow get some starts, taking more ABs from Thole. Hopefully, Schneid will get hurt and they shut him down. They should just cut him, really.

by David G on Aug 31, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not much reason to cut him since the rosters have expanded. Even if they didn’t start Schneider, they could at least let him hit off the bench or play in emergencies.

by TheBigStapler on Sep 1, 2009 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This one doesn't bother me as much

I would like to see Thole play everyday but as long as he gets at bats, its a good thing.

Just know, if there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.

by meigs1414 on Aug 31, 2009 8:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Its just silly though

The team isn’t playing for anything and one of Thole’s big strengths in the minors has been his ability to handle lefty pitching. He’s been consistently excellent vs. lefties. Now is the time to try and learn if he can do it at the major league level. Just like now is the time to start finding out if Daniel Murphy can play other positions, and just like how now is not the time to force hobbled superstars like Beltran and Wright back into action. The luxury afforded by sucking so bad this year is the Mets essentially get an extra trial-and-error month, sort of like Spring Training, except against real competition. But no, no, the club wants to finish strong, hurt their draft status, and learn as little as possible that might help them for next year, while taking risks that have no reward value. Everything about this season has been wrong.

I wouldn't call Wright hobbled

but I agree on Murphy on Thole. Let Murph play some 2nd and some third, what the hell.

by David G on Aug 31, 2009 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not sure how valid it is

But its worth mentioning the Mets are choosing to activate Wright after a plane flight into the Rockies. Why does that sounds so familiar when talking about players coming back from concussions….? I understand that’s not necessarily a strong argument, but the elevation of Coors Field has been known to play tricks on players physiologically. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t know how much it set Ryan Church back or how much worse off he was to begin with, but it just seems like a risk you’d expect the organization to at least think through thoroughly, but I’ve learned better than to expect them to take such delicate considerations at this point.

I agree with you 100%

But given the past history with this management (Flores), the fact that he is on the 40-man roster is good sign. Even though it’s stupid, wrong and extremely short-sighted, I’d rather have this than have Thole going to the Fall league, not going on the 40-man and risk losing him in the Rule V draft. Which, to me, seemed more likely in July and August than him actually stepping onto Citi Field as a Met next week.

Just know, if there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.
