They decided to hang around for 1 more.

Where I just saw pujols hit one off the top of the raised apple and holliday hit several into the second deck. It is a beautiful night for live baseball btw.

looks downright shady in that pic. Either that, or he believes the camera really does steal your soul, so he’s decided to look away from it.
the mets will get 26 ground outs..

Possible GM Candidate?
Does he actually evaluate players or does his gut do his thinking?
by aparkermarshall on Aug 4, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
His comments on Steven Matz:
“What he has is a solid three-pitch mix,” said Rudy Terrasas, the Mets’ director of amateur scouting. “He’s a fastball-curveball-change guy. He’s got a clean delivery, good arm action.”
“He was the best player available when we made that selection,” Terrasas said. “And again, like I said yesterday, we were very excited and pleased that we were able to get someone in our backyard.”
“All the ingredients are there,” Terrasas said. “But like any young high school pitcher he’s just going to need some time to develop.”
Too far away in the corporate ladder to be a GM, but he plays the draft picks.

he's a catcher and just got nailed on the thigh with a fastball

TW Triple Play contest
If I’m not mistaken, this inning’s contestant announced on WFAN is an AA regular. Good luck!
marketing filler, really
The odds are astronomical, but if the Mets turn a triple play in the designated contestant’s inning, they get $10 grand.
oh, oops
An out was already made when Wayne “The Genius” Hagin announced the contest. Sorry, better luck next time!

Age would explain the decline in velocity
but him catching too much of the plate, is, I think, injury related, specifically his fingers, and to a lesser extent his knee.
there’s no reason that a guy with pretty good control like Johan would catch so much of the plate on 0-2, 1-2 counts.
he also needs another pitch, and not that slurve he throws to lefties. I don’t get why he hasn’t developed a cutter yet, as it would keep right handed hittters honest, and force them to guess at another pitch, instead of simple fastball/change.

Pujols
Pujols has a vat of HGH in his locker. No way that guy is not juicing. Young players are not built that way.
So was Bonds.
He’s good, and he’s also juicing. Just look at his body, it’s cartoonish.
it's a shame that
every good player now is accused of juicing
"Solo homers usually come with no one on base." -Ralph Kiner
Well, yeah
It’s totally obvious that Bonds was on them. He was extremely skinny and hit for average player, then became ridiculously huge with insane power numbers. Not so with Pujols.
2009 Mets---Mission: .500!
Pujols is in the ARod mold
Juicing from the start. Again, 20 year olds are not built like that. No way, no how. He’s a great hitter, but he’s enhanced on top of that.
Juicing from the start?
So you think A-Rod was juicing throughout high school and his pro career? I doubt it. He’s a natural athlete; he was also one of the best QBs in the country. I believe that he took ‘roids from ’01 to ’03—-that’s when his power numbers went way up. Also, Pujols is 29.

Frankie has been extremely lucky on batting average on balls in play. Also a low homer per flyball rate (although he is usually “flukishly” good on that score).

Well fellas......
zthis is definitely the last nail in the coffin…..
I was at the game, and left just as Pujols hit the homer into the apple. By the time I left the parking lot, K-Rod was busy blowing the save. By the time I got to the GW bridge, we were going to extra innings. By the time I got home, Murphy had struck out on 3 pitches. I pulled into my driveway as Stokes was replaced by Feliciano (who almost never pitches) after just one batter. Feliciano must have been rusty since he almost never pitches, and Jerry decide to bring his biggest pile of shit pitcher with the bases loaded. I saw the HBP as I turned on the computer, and I heard the homer from the next room.
All in all, a pretty eventful evening. Now, this is what I have to say….
Omar is gone.
Murphy basically sucks. I know he tries hard, but he doesn’t have “it”.
David Wright is the biggest wimp in the sorry history of this team.
Berroa…..no comment. He’s just a throwaway.
Green is garbage
Feliciano should ask for a trade.
Santana deserves better, and should also ask for a trade. If I am him….screw this team. At least the Twins made it to the postseason and were competitive.
I am so pissed at this entire organization, it isn’t even funny.
Davd Wright went 4/5 in terms of getting on base
He’s playing his ass off. What are you talking about?

Santos is a flash in the pan at best. He also basically sucks. He can’t catch a throw from the outfield to save his life.
I know everyone here prizes the prospects we supposedly have….here’s a radical idea…
1) trade all the stupid prospects, and get some players in here that will make a difference
or
2) go “all youth”, and trade your valuable pieces for other team’s top prospects like Tampa did, and rebuild.

Murphy is just not that good
You can’t sugarcoat his performance. It would be ok for a middle infielder or a catcher but for a 1st baseman or corner outfield its atrocious. I don’t know if Murphy is part of the answer for the future but I doubt it. He’s not THAT young. He’s 24. Look at Santos minor league #s. He’s 28 yrs old and wasn’t even good in the minors.
I wont argue murphy belongs in middle infield, but i wouldnt mind seeing him get his shot there.

Looking to next year, the lineup should be pretty good. Pickup an OFer (Bay maybe) and I guess we’ll need a 1st baseman and a catcher ….. Geez as I start to right this I doubt the premise.
