This is very good for Sherman
But that’s not saying much. Exactly where is Figgins supposed to play? He’s never been a good outfielder, 2B/3B are both manned by solid players and he doesn’t hit for any power. Figgins is having a great season and should generate a lot of interest. It makes no sense to enter the bidding for a superfluous player. (And if god forbid David Wright goes down to an injury, the Mets are reasonably deep at third with Murphy, Bowman and Lutz.)
The same exact argument can be made for Mark DeRosa, except he offers average power. He’d be a good bench player, but I’d anticipate a lot of interest for him and he’s totally not worth a long-term deal. DeRosa is entering his late-30’s. DO NOT WANT.

DeRosa at First? Todd Zeile redux? count me unimpressed.
I really think bringing Delgado back should be seriously considered, so long as he shows he is healthy in the next few weeks. His game has nothing to do with speed, so I am pretty confident he can come back and hit, which is something we really need from our 1B. I know Ike Davis might be ready, but I’d rather keep in the minors and give him some time in RF. If Delgado can be signed for one year I would do it.

Absolutely
He could be a bargain after this season. And Ike Davis shouldn’t figure into the plans for the big club next year. It would be great if he’s ready to contribute but they shouldn’t expect that.

If Delgado is a Type A
You don’t think of touching him. You don’t touch any type-As we might have.
Ike Davis/ Nick Evans platoon ftw. Murph at 2nd.
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa

Delgado won't get 12 million in free agency.
If we offer him arbitration, he’ll accept. I don’t have a problem with that, but I wouldn’t count on getting draft picks for him. I honestly think he’d re-sign cheaper to stay here, and I’d be pretty happ to bing him back with Murph backing him up. No need to rush Davis…let him play in Buffalo and face some advanced pitching.

Delgado won't get
$12 million from the Mets, either. They aren’t obligated to pay him next year via arbitration what he made this year. Considering how bad he was in the first half in 2008 and how much time he missed this year, $6-8 million is more in the ballpark.

If the club offers arbitration, the sum can't be less than 80% of his 12 million dollar salary this season.

Thats going to be at least 9.8 million. Since the new CBA was signed, no team has gone to arbitration with a player and had the players salary determined to be less than the prior year. Several have agreed to a smaller deal prior to the hearing, but we’d have already guaranteed Delgado 9.8 million.

You should've kept reading that link:
(3) The club’s salary offer to a player under its control may not be less than 80% of the player’s total compensation from the prior year, and may not be less than 70% of his compensation from 2 years earlier. These rules, however, do not apply to free agents who are offered arbitration.

The Elias ranking projections
currently have him as a Type B. (Here.) It seems doubtful that he’ll play enough this year to move up to Type A.
Also, off-topic but these rankings are ridiculous. Skip Schumaker is directly ahead of Delgado, Ryan Howard and Adrian Gonzalez.

Man, some of those ratings are ridiculous
Darren Oliver and Feliciano are Type A? What team will give up a first-rounder for a middle reliever? Tatis is just shy of Type B status. Although Corey Sullivan has the second-lowest rating of all NL 1Bs and OFs. Angel Berroa is actually not at the bottom of the list for SS/2B/3B, but Ramon Martinez is. And Omir ranks too low for compensation, because Elias refuses to measure grission.

BTB did a takedown
of the whole ranking system here. Since appearances and innings weigh heavily in the reliever rankings, it’s no surprise that Pedro is in the mix for Type A status.

I don't really like the idea of Delgado returning
But I recognize there isn’t much out there for next year.
