MLBTraderumors Piece On Mets Offseason

I'm interested that names like BJ Upton aren't being brought up in all of this. If the Mets decide no-go on the big FAs I'd trade for him to patch up the outfield and maybe head for Wolf and LaRoche to patch up the team a bit.

Also, this brought up the fact that Francoeur cannot be non-tendered, so I'd be interested in seeing if the Royals have any interest in taking him a la Yuniesky

Just because he wasn't listed in the "non-tender candidates" section

doesn’t mean he can’t be non-tendered. Pretty sure he won’t be though.

we don't have many that many bad contracts

the bb-rod and ollie deals are definitely bad and the beltran and santana deals could become bad.
zaun would be a good pick-up. abreu’s defense diminshes his offense, and he is getting old. nick johnson would be great for a one year deal. i would suggest to invest more significant money in hitters than pitchers. hitters are more reliable.

who’s better at C. Ramon Castro maybe? Why did Castro trade him again?
Zaun wouldn’t be a full-time catcher at 39, but he’s a pretty good hitter for a catcher.

I guess...

It really depends what you want to do with Thole. If you think he needs some time in AAA, Zaun is a good option to play part time. But I just think he’s not that big of an upgrade from Santos (as unbelievable as that sounds). And I’d rather focus our resources on our bigger concerns.
