I'm pretty sure their main focus is

1) to keep fans from posting how they really feel about the team by keeping them in moderation forever.

2) for Matt to showcase his ability to multi task.

3) to accentuate the positives ( in short supply ), while glossing over the negatives.

number 3 has been my beef with him recently

I feel like he does his readers a disservice by not being honest about the bad as well as the good. Not that he’s lying or anything. of course, SNY probably wouldn’t let him anyway

honestly I don't get all the hate for MetsBlog

Every member of this site has the ability to make FanPosts/FanShots and they still get the news quicker then us more often than not.

I actually disagree.

There have been times when I or someone else has put up a FanShot of some big development before Cerrone. I don’t really care, but it’s worth noting.

I don't see a problem with this

Matt has every right to market himself in his own website, it’s probably why he was picked up by SNY though the hit counts sure didn’t hurt. Also, with reporters basically chastising Matt for being a “news compiler” that leaches off them, it’s important for him to show that Metsblog readers come for him as well as the links he puts, whether the latter is true or not, I can’t say, but, again, I really don’t see the problem with this.

He can do whatever he wants on his own web site.

It’s seldom that I visit MetsBlog.com because I use Google Reader to aggregate a reading list. In search of a particular blog item, I visited the URL and upon first glance, it struck me how really self-absorbed it is. In general, there’s nothing wrong with self-promotion, but as a purported “voice of the fans” and a man who coined the slogan “One Team, One Million GMs”, don’t you think this is a little overboard?

I also find it amusing that he’s throwing his name around like it has some sort of gravitas. Like, “Whoa, It’s Matt Cerrone’s MetsBlog! I remember the time Matt said ‘…i mean, i don’t know how to judge Murphy…on one hand, he could really hit, but on the other hand he looks shaky at first base…‘ and that other time he asked that opposing team’s blogger …without looking at stats, from your gut, do you feel that he hits in the clutch?’

eh this is nitpicking IMO

i have no problem with cerrone, mainly because metsblog is still the best mets information source out there, in terms of getting the most reliable info and getting it fast. as long as the product is good he can toot his own horn all he likes.

in fact that is the same reason why hes getting paid to do what we all do in our spare time, the reason why hes on tv almost daily and why he was probably able to quit his day job and cover the mets fulltime, and if he hasn’t yet he’ll be able to soon. basically this is why he is living a blogger’s dream. frankly it would be stupid of him not to showcase himself and his talents and its something that every single one of us would be doing to if we were only so lucky.

i’ve always felt that the disdain for him among many mets fans is really just a knee-jerk dislike for anyone who gives opinions for a living. theres a certain percentage who are going to hate you no matter what you say. and theres probably a bit of jealousy mixed in there as well.

What opinions does he give?

You guys are obsessed with disarming this guy.

It’s not like he’s Murray Chass or something. No need make Matt Cerrone such a target. There are far dumber Mets blogs out there than MetsBlog.com and yet they get by unscathed because they’re not as well known.

Gah, Murray Chass.

HISS, do not speak his name.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
