Evening...

I heard Francesa saying something about a statement Minaya made today about perhaps moving one of the core players this offseason ?.

Anybody know what happened ?

by fxcarden on Sep 21, 2009 6:45 PM EDT reply actions

I haven't heard anything

I did hear that the Mets were filming an apology video for fans for this season (seriously)

no, really...

I heard him say it on the radio around 4:15. He went on to say that it wouldn’t be Wright, and it wasn’t going to be Reyes because right now he has a lower value coming off the injury, so that leaves Beltran, he also said Beltran wants an extension, and the Mets are not ready to give him one, and he thinks Beltran can force a trade, so he was saying he is the likely one to go.

Then someone called to belly-ache about Joba.

by fxcarden on Sep 21, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

If we trade beltran

we may as well trade feliciano, stokes, krod and everybody not named reyes and wright

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Sep 21, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Johan took photos with fans in front of the number 42 .

Nice touch.

I wonder if that would have happened if the season had been a success.

except when he pitches well

then he’s a great pitcher who we need to keep around long-term

I know this had been said many many times

But Jerry needs to go. I thought he deserved a “freebie” bc of the injuries but this team is not just a Jose Reyes/decent pitcher and a corner outfield bat away from being good. They are a world away.

How can they not be playing hard or taking a little joy in trying to spoil division rivals who have made a living out of screwing our party.

by Michkin on Sep 21, 2009 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I can see the future.

In a display of pure genious, during the 8th inning, Jerry pinch runs Schneider for Francoeur, and pinch hits Santos for Thole. The move works as Santos hits a HR off Mike Gonzalez to make the game close (11-3)…then the epic comeback sputters out as Schneider goes behind the plate to catch Santos in the ninth and gets hit in the head by Chipper’s backswing, knocking him out cold. Jerry is then forced to use his emergency catcher, Brian Stokes who proceeds to have 14 passed balls in a row to put the game out of reach.

During the post game show, Jerry said he liked the righty on righty matchup as well as the short swing. When asked why Santos, who is a natural catcher was left to pitch the rest of the inning, Jerry said he likes the way Santos also has a short pitch in addition to his already legendary short swing. " we need more players like him who have multiple abilities "

I can imagine the conversation now...

Omar: Aroldis, what will it take for us to sign you?

Aroldis: 3 million dollars

Omar: Right… how about 4 pennies, two rocks and a piece of Big Red

Aroldis: Um, no.

Omar: Duh, stupid me. How about 5 pennies, 3 rocks, and a piece of Winterfresh

Aroldis: Goodbye

Omar: WAIT, I’LL GIVE YOU 4 ROCKS! 4 OF THEM! PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!

If we see Parnell in the rotation next year

then it’s a foregone conclusion we’re having the same problems as this year – tons if injury to SP. There is no way he’s getting a 5th start on the rotation over others to start the year.

I just saw the Metsblog plug on SNY and it ocurred to me that

only the Mets would advertise a place that locks their own fans out.

Cerrone is kinda like

Ohio St. Surrounded by a buncha shit while the big boys are in a complete other stratosphere like the SEC (AA, MetsGeek writers). Easy to understand and look at the pros of metsblog much like ohio st. and continues to back into national championships. Kinda like cerrone continues to make an ass of himself on SNY with his wardrobe and “i mean’s”. God i hate that site

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Sep 21, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

What I don't understand....

is that requirement that you have to ‘audition’ first to be able to post. If approved, you’re ‘awaiting moderation’ comments get to go through. I read many, many baseball blogs. I have never run into this anywhere other than his metsblog.

by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 21, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

All the time

Until he started playing with the format hourly, shut it down for a week, then opened up with his new auditioning policy. That was it for me.

A handful of us

started a new blog that week. It’s really good, with some very different perspective on posts. It’s a blog started by the people, for the people.
We also have a game chat too, but since it’s way smaller following right now, it’s sorta lonely over there during games so I joined here too.

by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 21, 2009 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I like to read

alot of baseball blogs. Found this one and enjoyed the posts. Then I realized they had a game chat on Amazin Ave so I joined here too.

by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 21, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Simple explanation

Matt Cerrone is an insecure d.ouche who couldn’t handle the criticism he and the Mets were getting, so he stopped it… and conversely, ripped the heart and soul out of that blog

by Syler on Sep 21, 2009 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

and embarrased himself and the Mets

who are still idiots for advertising his blog on their network and giving him air time.

by fxcarden on Sep 21, 2009 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I often wondered

if the Mets organization who promote his blog even realized what he was doing…

by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 21, 2009 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

that was just ugly. Misch, if still on this team next year, better not be anywhere near that starting rotation.

MISCH-ION FAILED

The Mets should either relegate this failed starter to a relief role (a la Brian Stokes) or should just simply let him go by some means.

Legend has it, that when the full moon strikes the pitchers' mound at a Mets game, Mr. Met turns into Evil Mr. Met...

Introducing Buddy Alderson, Sandy's dog, and the newest member of Puppy Avenue!

Embiggen here.
Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
