As seen on the 6:00 PM news..
On channel 5 (Fox).
Citi Field will see over 1,000 police officers tonight. Tight security due to the terrorist plot.
why attack citi?
watching the mets is worse than anything terrorists could do anyway. In seriousness though thats pretty crazy.

so you play bass, huh ?
what type of gear do you use, and what style do you play ?.
I play the geetar.
I mostly play an Ernie Ball Muiscman Stingray Custom, although ive got an ESP Ltd 5 string, and a fretless carlos robelli
I play mostly rock and a bit of funk. how about you?
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 22, 2009 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions
that's some serious gear, you must kick ass.
I play mostly classic rock. We play out from time to time, and cover everything from Pink to Pink Floyd. I mostly play rhythm.
‘79 American Strat, an ’85 Ibanez, a brand new Tele, a Fender Showmaster and a couple of acoustics. I play thru a Peavey amp, and I’ve got some stomp boxes for effects. Nothing fancy.
pretty nice gear there too
i used to play some shows, but my band members have all left the area over the past few years, so now i gotta start from scratch.

Maybe the 1000 cops can lead the Mets to victory
kind of like a post 9/11 victory except without the drama, Piazza homerun, sadness, moruning and etc
the cops are there and so are the Braves. That’s similar right?

Is anyone else sick of
the weighted division schedules? I hate playing all these teams 18 times or whatever it is. Would rather play them 15 and add some games to the other divisions. Gets so damn boring seeing us lose to Jurrrrrjens and Josh Johnson 8 times a year. Let’s lose to some other teams!
100 %
it sucks. I’m also ready to abandon inter-league. they should have it every other year or something.
agreed
its always advantage AL, since in an AL park the NL just gets one bench player to hit extra instead of a dedicated power hitting DH.

I don't mind interleague as much
as long as they mix it up a little with the teams. For instance, why are the Mets going back to Baltimore again next year?
that would definitely make me a little less frustrated with it

back in the day when I used to coach,
I made the kids bunt the ball inside a circle. if they missed the circle, they ran one lap for every ball.
I also made the outfield throw the ball into a garbage can laying on it's side at home plate.
didn’t matter how many bounces as long as they touched the can. if you missed, you ran.
Frenchy would be running lots of laps

If he throws out the runner at the plate, you got a serving of french toast... ideally on a plate
I can’t argue with that. If only he can pull off what Rick Ankiel did (to 3rd base) in that Cardinals – Rockies game, though… at Coors Field, no less! (not too far from deep CF wall that stretches out to 424 ft.)

$$$
Injury concern, high priced contract, and my article below explains it all!
The Mets can’t wait until next year to start making the necessary improvements – the time is NOW. The Mets can free up some necessary payroll from their free agents, who are C Brian Schneider ($4,900,000), 1B Carlos Delgado ($12,000,000), SS Alex Cora ($2,000,000), LF Gary Sheffield (only responsible for $400,000 of $14 million contract), LF Fernando Tatis ($1,700,000), and RHP J.J. Putz ($6,000,000 this season, $9,150,000 club option with a $1,000,000 buyout). That’s $27 million in payroll right there… Carlos Delgado, despite his production, isn’t worth picking up the tab for, as he will be an oft-injured payer who might not do much to justify any salary he might get – the Mets could sign him for less, but Daniel Murphy has a strong hold at the 1st base position, anyway… the Mets could free up $16,150,000 in payroll.
$16.15 million is not a lot of money – and this is assuming they re-sign Tatis and exercise Putz’s option. Invest the money where the need necessitates, I say!

Bleh.
1.00 or under: Flat nasty. Stellar. Very few pitchers will achieve this feet. Maybe a real filthy closer or a Randy Johnson/Pedro Martinez/Greg Maddux during their prime.
1.01-1.20: Very good. Very respectable. A pitcher with these type of numbers doesn’t let many guys on and is likely to be a successful major leaguer.
1.25-1.40: These numbers are decent to fairly average.
1.40-1.50: These aren’t very desirable numbers and these pitchers likely have control problems or don’t have what it takes to be in the big leagues.
1.50 and above: Gascan is the first thing that comes to mind. Given the opportunity to bet against a whip above 1.50 (if at decent odds) is a great proposition. This is a hurler who constantly has guys on base which is a losing proposition in MLB.
Maddux = Unbelievable

Legend has it, that when the full moon strikes the pitchers' mound at a Mets game, Mr. Met turns into Evil Mr. Met...
And why exactly, do I care?
As someone said previously, every potential loss gets us closer to that protected draft pick.
I guess I just cannot bring myself to root for a NY Met loss.

Me too
I can’t root for any of my teams to lose

It's hard
But do look on the bright side – we can’t control the outcome. If it will happen, there’s nothing any of us can do to stop it. Or maybe, one of us can pull a Steve Bartman stunt.

I think that guy had to go into the Witness Protection program….

Only a concern if the Mets were in the playoffs
There’s no reason to not do it…

I don’t follow football.
by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 22, 2009 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions
you don't need to FOLLOW football....
just watch here and there….
at least it gets me thru until there is nothing but hockey and basketball both of which I don’t watch on TV.
It's no fun though
if I’m not a fan of a particular team. It’s just not the same….
Only football game I ever watch is the Super Bowl.
My Dad, poor guy, only had girls and got us to be avid Met fans but could never get us to give a damn about his NY Jets….

well, then it's US Navy for you.
what do you do for them, anyway ? (without compromising national security of course )
I work in the IT world
as an IT specialist for the Navy Department of Defense.

Many moons ago...
I started out as a programmer. Moved up the ranks. I’m a Project Manager now for an IT team that maintains a software system for the Navy.
Now, they hire mostly contractors to do the programming. Why pay for experience when they can hire 25 years olds out of college for 1/4 of the salary who really run circles around us old timers anyway? LOL.

The thought of tech advances must be staggering
Legend has it, that when the full moon strikes the pitchers' mound at a Mets game, Mr. Met turns into Evil Mr. Met...
Yup
Years ago, you could be a jack of all trades, expert at none – in the IT world. Now, technology moves so fast, you really have to pick one specialty and become an expert in that area.

cool.
I thought you were going to say you’re the person that programs Tomahawks missiles or something.
My buddy’s son is in the Predator program with the Air Force. He is actually an instructor at the ripe old age of 24.
very nice
Best of luck to him. Good future ahead of him, especially as an instructor.

my friend said his son was telling him
last week “they arrived at the target area 2 minutes late and people died”, meaning our guys.
not a job for the faint hearted, even if you’re driving from US soil.
Serious?!
I feel like a prole among giants…

Don't know your age
but I believe you mentioned you’re still young….very young, right? Plenty of time to climb that ladder.

About to graduate college in a year or two
It’s never too late, I say

I don't think I could be an IT instructor at 24
I’m good, but not that good!

he's a flight instructor for the predator program.
you drop real bombs on real people from 6000 miles away.
Now that's
alot of responsibility. Hopefully, he’s getting the big bucks for that.

Awesome!
That is a great job to get into! You MUST be good at resolving tech issues!
Legend has it, that when the full moon strikes the pitchers' mound at a Mets game, Mr. Met turns into Evil Mr. Met...
Yeah...
problem solving is my specialty. Kind of hard not to be good at something you’ve done for 30 years. Well, I guess there are those who just take up space for years but I just couldn’t do that. If someone is paying me good wages, I gotta give it my all….

How about:
‘Get off your collective asses out there and start kicking some butt, boys!’

Or implement a computer sim to teach the pitchers arm angles, batters projectile physics in swinging...
…and all that
Legend has it, that when the full moon strikes the pitchers' mound at a Mets game, Mr. Met turns into Evil Mr. Met...
You know...
I tried to find some stats, or graphs on why some feel the need to slide head first. I figured there must be some advantage to that but couldn’t find anything on that.
If no advantage, why in the world would you risk that? Makes me crazy when I see Reyes, or Cora or Wright doing that….

It's dangerous
Remember the Kelly Johnson incident?

LOL
We have our own resident head case in Ollie. And I would much rather have Ollie than Bradley.
While I think a two week suspension was a bit much for comments to the media, he’s been a career long problem no matter where he goes…..
