Free Agents 2010
With the season winding down, how do you guys think the FA market is looking?
Who do you guys think that the mets will/should go after in this off-season's FA?
I would be happy with NYM chasing any of these guys;
* C - Joe Mauer
* 1B - Adam LaRoche
* 2B - Brian Roberts
* OF - Matt Holliday
* OF - Jason Bay
* SP - Brandon Webb (Club option for $8.5 million. $500,000 buyout. )
* SP - Josh Beckett (Club option for $12 million. $2 million buyout. )
* SP - Cliff Lee (Club option for $8 million. $1 million buyout. )
* SP - John Lackey

I could be wrong here
but I’m about 99.9% certain that Mauer is not a free agent until next year.

He's not a free agent
I would’ve known

Beckett and Lees options will be picked up
and probably Webbs. Mauer has one more year on his contract and the Twins are trying to sign him to a long term deal. As for free agents, Holliday is the best bang for the buck, so if we can only sign one free agent, I’d obviously be down. As for other free agents, I like Endy Chavez, Adam Everett, and, of course, Ramon Castro.
The pitchers ran Ramon out of town on a rail
I don’t think he’s coming back.
I still haven't seen any direct qoutes other than rumblings but yeah
I know Omar and Jerry don’t want him for whatever reason.
I saw only one thing
Rubin quoted directly a “prominent met” that there would have been “an insurrection” if he hadn’t been dealt.
But, who knows what Adam lobby for at the time.
i don't know where you got these names
but like half of these guys will not be free agents. brian roberts signed an extension last season and joe mauer definitely isn’t. in fact he probably won’t ever be a free agent. then guys like beckett and lee will have those options picked up.

I got really, really excited for a minute
when I saw Joe Mauer’s name. Thanks for ruining my morning Moebius.
The only guy we have a shot at is Lackey.
I am convinced Holliday will stay in St. Louis. I mean, why would he want to leave Pujols’ team and come play for this organization. It’s not like he is a NY guy or anything like that. Then again, money talks. I just don’t see it.
I’m also pretty convinced the others you mention will find other teams while the Mets debate if they should offer Livan Hernandez a 3 year / $36 million contract.
on the other hand
if Reyes and Wright and Beltran are healthy, that’s not a bad lineup to be a part of either
Oozing with grission

John Lackey talks like a winner.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers – Recap – September 20, 2009
‘’I was a little off. I stunk even in the bullpen. It was one of those days,’’ said Lackey, the native Texan who was headed across the street for the Dallas Cowboys’ home opener in their new stadium Sunday night. ‘’But the boys took care of me for sure and I appreciate it.’’
I want Lackey
I would seriously rather have Mauer than Pujols
because A. The Yankees will get Pujols and
B. We have Ike Davis at first, a great cathcer like Mauer would bring back the Mike Piazza days.

The only case for Mauer is that he is younger
and plays a more important position. If I had my choice, I might go Mauer, especially if Davis has a great year next season in AAA, but Pujols is going to end his career and be one of the 15 greatest players of all time.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
of course
if Davis obviously sucked, and Thole was good I would go after Pujols
They’ll probably cost the same
What are the odds on the Yankees signing both?

okay imagine this
after the Yankees go out in the first round of the playoffs in 2010, with A-Rod stinking,
Jeter moves to eitther DH, 2b, or CF, A-Roid goes to SS, Tex/Pujols plays 3b (Pujols used to)
or Pujols plays left like he used to.

Also, should your prophecy come true and the Yankees wind up with
A-Rod, Texeira, Pujols, Jeter, Sabathia, Burnett
I’m sorry…..did you want to throw Beckett in there too ?.
Anyway, if THAT happens, I am done with baseball, as will many others.
yeah IU'll be done with baseball
because that would be unstoppable. They’d also have Halladay

Awesome...
so
CC
Halladay
Beckett
Burnett
Hughes / Joba
and
Jeter
Texeira
Pujols
A-Rod
Holliday
Posada
Cano
Beltran ( Omar would have trade him straight up for Melky because he likes
his upside)
Payroll : 1 billion dollars.
Mauer is a free agent in 2011
so he’ll replace Posada
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
He would trade Wright for Cano as well

Well I doubt ARod can really play SS any more
with the pounds he’s put on and his advancing age, and Pujols has a lingering arm injury that severely limits his throwing, which is why he’s at 3B now. I’ve heard that he’s offered to play 3B for the Cards as recently as this year, but they won’t let him because he could seriously hurt himself if he had to throw that much.
