Bobby V. feels sad for the Mets....
Bobby Valentine said on a conference call today that he considers himself a Mets fan, and he is disappointed in their 2009 season, which he described as a ‘tragedy.’ According to Valentine, there is an out-clause in his contract that will allow him to take a job managing in MLB. Valentine would not say if he is or isn’t interested in managing the Mets again.

Link?
Maybe a better title would’ve been “Valentine Sad For The Mets” or something. I think Bobby V wants to manage the Mets again at some point.

Probably best to link in a word from the text
Like “said” above. Or use a chat FanShot.
Also, let’s hope Wally Backman isn’t seriously considered for any future managerial openings.

If he came on board, I’m officially hopeful for the Mets.

Valentine
I think Valentine would be a big improvement over Jerry Manuel in terms of in-game strategery. Maybe this translates to a difference of a few (or even a handful) of wins over the course of a season, which is definitely a good thing (if in fact the effects of a good manager over a bad one is that pronounced, and if Valentine is truly a good manager and Manuel a truly bad one). Such a change wouldn’t transform a moribund team into a superlative one, but could mean the difference between making and just missing the playoffs.

I think
even aside from the on field benefits (if there truly are any), it would do a lot for the psychological mood of the fan base. This season was an unmitigated disaster, and I think it’s hurt the Wilpon’s already bruised wallets – they need to get the fans back on their side. Bobby V. has been a fan favorite, and was probably the #1 choice of the majority of fans to be the manager when Art Howe got fired, when Willie got fired, and now. It just makes too much sense to try to bring him back. Which is exactly why the Wilpons won’t do it. They’re the Daniel Snyder’s of MLB
