You ever see

the bit about Brian Williams on 30 Rock? The intern had to clean Williams’ office every day and it was a mess, filled with booze, porn and empty pizza boxes. Very funny.

Maybe Wright

needs laser surgery? Not even joking, has anyone thought of this? Get him to a dr. soon.

by David G on Sep 29, 2009 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

You know,

My Dad just made that same suggestion last night.
And if that’s so, where the heck are the doctors on this team? I’m assuming these guys have readily available, top notch access to all things medical. Unlike us lowly souls….

by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 29, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

the doctors are all busy

by fxcarden on Sep 29, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Even if your vision

just slips a little, it can slow the pitch recognition and timing….I’m grasping at straws though, I realize that. Also, Wright’s Sept. is shockingly similar to Church’s isn’t it?

by David G on Sep 29, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Just that

both sucked big time after the concussion.

by David G on Sep 29, 2009 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll probably get flamed for this but...

Wright has left enough people on base this year to populate a small country.

He’s been the same all year….some periods of being red hot, and then a complete flop at the plate for some other periods.

I hope he gets his shit together for next year.

by fxcarden on Sep 29, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

It's been

the most disappointing part of the season for me. Even more so than the injuries. Right now, it’s just a lock that any halfway decent righty Ks him, it’s embarrassing to watch. He can’t catch up to 90 mph fastballs. He needs to seriously start all over with his approach.

by David G on Sep 29, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, it's The Natural curse

Truthfully,

I think he’s got what I’d call a ‘hitch’ in his swing. Look at that front shoulder. He’s doing something with that which is messing up his ability to catch up to those balls he used to hit easily last year.

I live in LA unfortunately

and watched the game and thought the celebration was actually great, unlike the lifelessness I see with the Mets. But of course today in the LA Times Helene Elliott got on her soap box about the beer on the jersey. It was self serving and weak. I won’t link the article because I don’t want to see it again it was so weak. By the way the whole LA times sports page hates sports so I shouldn’t be surprised. god I hate this state.

gotta disagree

first off i can’t ever cheer for the braves, secondly, two teams making it from the east just makes it that much more painful. Now what I would like to see is the braves win out, the phillies lose out, and the Rockies win enough games so Braves take division, Rockies take WC, and phillies dont make it… its still technically possible, but very very very unlikely.

by aparkermarshall on Sep 29, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, and the worst is they throw the interleague records for AL vs NL in our face

but the advantage is clearly with the AL in their ballparks becuase they have a dedicated DH whereas the NL teams just have to bat an extra bench player… of course the team with a player who’s only job is to hit the ball as hard as they can is going to have an advantage. Plus any suggestion that an AL managers job couldnt be done by a trained monkey is false.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

(click to embiggen)
Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
