With his OBP
Thole should be hitting 2nd in this lineup, but whatever Jerry deems catchers must hit 7th regardless of ability.

I'm calling a Wright homer today
He likes the low ball, Marquis will give him one.

To cheer everyone up
Here’s a thoroughly depressing article on the Mets by Jayson Stark:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings090903
by David G on Sep 3, 2009 3:11 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
makes some interesting points
I mean, bearing in mind that this team stays healthy, and we’re still not the team we need to be. The past 2 seasons would show us that.
The owner, manager, and GM have put the team in a deep hole.

Yeah I think Starks is pretty solid
especially when compared to some clowns out there. They underrate the lower levels of our system though.
by David G on Sep 3, 2009 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The article could use more
I would have liked Stark to quote some of the executives / scouts that weren’t so negative on the Mets. (The “OK, so not all the folks we spoke with were quite that bleak.” part.)
Presumably some of the people he talked to also offered their solutions, instead of just listing problems. Would have enjoyed reading actual plans.

No mention of Thole, Ike Davis or
Holt or Meijia either. I think with a few moves they could have a decent lineup, but the starting pitching is the biggest problem, no doubt.

I knew that helmet wouldn't last

Was it a really bad passed ball?
or was it close to a wild pitch?
He’ll be moved to LF by tomorrow probably, lol.

By Howie's account
definitely a passed ball. he stabbed at the pitch and it got away from him.

WAR is cumulative though, isn't it?
You’d have to extrapolate that performance over a significant number of PAs to yield a significant WAR.

I picked him up because I had Reyes. He is the face of all my misery.
by Mr. Bananagrabber on Sep 3, 2009 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I had reyes and beltran
but still have a chance at winning somehow. Adam Lind, Werth and Reynolds have saved me.

Dub?
I heard he was out of the lineup last night. Does anyone know why?
2009 Mets---Mission: Bryce Harper!

It was planned that way.
Back one game, yesterday off, in the lineup today.

They are going to give him some days off
for the rest of the year.

Kemp's been awesome lately
as has Mauer, he’s basically 1/2 of my team.

Mauer has been awesome lately as in
since may

my game seems to be frozen
or did Wright foul off a bunch of pitches?
by David G on Sep 3, 2009 5:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He and Helton are in a heated battle for 3rd in the batting race
maybe not “heated” but it’s close, .328 to .327.

Beimel looks like a stoned pizza delivery guy in his file photo (and possibly in life)
by HotChipWillBreakYourLegs on Sep 3, 2009 5:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Gameday is giving me the impression
that he pitches like one too.

Good god that is a frightening photo
It looks like he’s been up for 96 hours on crystal meth.

Joe Beimel
is probably on the Faces of Meth billboards in Denver.

Tho!e
will bat again unless he’s hit for, which under normal circumstances would be absurd.
But then again…

I'd say 3/1

What do you guys think of Tholes at bats
I’m at work but I saw one at bat, the lazy flyball one. It looks like he has great bat control but little hip rotation in his swing. What are your impressions?
by Delgado on Sep 3, 2009 5:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Ground rule double for Thole
Impressive PA

Thole's
debut certainly trumps FMart’s.

Great AB, and gets the double

I wish I could have watched
I’m on radio. Howie and Wayne are doing absolutely no scouting. That’s one thing I love about Keith and Ron. They’re always full of that kind of stuff.

this kid’s gotta play. Let Santos teach him some grission and the power of lightning and he’s on his way, ha-ha

.188/.267/.3something is a bad way to teach Tho!e how to play

2010 opening day lineup?
At worst they could have:
Reyes
Pagan or FA
Beltran
Wright
Murphy or other FA 1b
French (probably stuck with him)
Thole
Castillo
That’s not too awful, that could be a wild card with some pitching. Right? Maybe?
by David G on Sep 3, 2009 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's not that bad
I can live with that depending on who the FA’s are
Gangsta
by Jadden Hopkins on Sep 3, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would switch around the order a bit but, essentially, that’s not a bad lineup. I think one big hitter could make a big difference.
