With his OBP
Thole should be hitting 2nd in this lineup, but whatever Jerry deems catchers must hit 7th regardless of ability.
I'm calling a Wright homer today
He likes the low ball, Marquis will give him one.
To cheer everyone up
Here’s a thoroughly depressing article on the Mets by Jayson Stark:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings090903
makes some interesting points
I mean, bearing in mind that this team stays healthy, and we’re still not the team we need to be. The past 2 seasons would show us that.
The owner, manager, and GM have put the team in a deep hole.

Yeah I think Starks is pretty solid
especially when compared to some clowns out there. They underrate the lower levels of our system though.
The article could use more
I would have liked Stark to quote some of the executives / scouts that weren’t so negative on the Mets. (The “OK, so not all the folks we spoke with were quite that bleak.” part.)
Presumably some of the people he talked to also offered their solutions, instead of just listing problems. Would have enjoyed reading actual plans.
No mention of Thole, Ike Davis or
Holt or Meijia either. I think with a few moves they could have a decent lineup, but the starting pitching is the biggest problem, no doubt.
I knew that helmet wouldn't last
after that slide into 2nd. Maybe he should switch to a regular helmet when running?
Yeah
I meant the outfielder Spilborghs.

As Keith mentioned
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN4cGuypdbg&feature=channel_page
Nothing original there.
Was it a really bad passed ball?
or was it close to a wild pitch?
He’ll be moved to LF by tomorrow probably, lol.
By Howie's account
definitely a passed ball. he stabbed at the pitch and it got away from him.

wait, this is an afternoon game?
what an ass Jerry is to give Thole his debut in a game that a lot of people can’t watch.

Pish Posh
Schneider would have hit 2 homers in one pitch
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa
Ha, it's so great
we’ve been playing Scheid for the last 2 months when Thole could have been here.
I wonder what Thole warm-up music will be

He took the first and second.
If he was going to swing, he could use his “HR-swing” until 0-2 then take a K.
Maybe the sb by thole wasn't great in retrospect
since they pitched around Valdez. but then again, it’s Valdez.

What's his WAR?
Factoring that stolen base, it has to be about 9.5 right now.
well what's his wOBA?
.92 for the single,+ something for the steal/1
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
WAR is cumulative though, isn't it?
You’d have to extrapolate that performance over a significant number of PAs to yield a significant WAR.
Hows Misch looking today
no TV, hard to gauge from gameday. Glad to see Thole got his first hit out of the way quickly.

Seth Smith
Anyone else think he’s a future all star? It’s not just that he’s hitting about .650 vs. us, he always seems to hit it hard.
and he had a few clutch hits in their last playoff run too.
he’s a pretty solid player from what ive seen of him.

Josh Thole has a hit AND an SB?!
Not a bad first time in the line-up.

Oh yeah, the triple play, forgot, because that will happen again.
Or a base hit
and the runner still gets forced at second

I thought the same thing
I think he switched identities and he’s really some other old lefty like Mike Stanton or Dennis Cook with cosmetic surgery.
Misch=5 starter next year?

My gamecast is broken
You don't cheer for the Mets. You drink for the Mets.
Pelfrey
should take a page out of Misch’s book. Calm, cool, collected even after giving up that bomb…..
Knew I should've played Stewart in
my fantasy playoffs. Did not think he’d start vs. a lefty.
Got to believe
it will be Feliciano in 8th to go after Gonzalez and Helton. Stokes needs another day off maybe. Please no Sean Green…
he could get one more AB with a rally in the 9th inning
Bottom line – barring meltdown, we will be undefeated with him in the lineup. It’s no coincidence.
If the Mets are good at 1 thing,
it’s averting the sweep!

Kemp's been awesome lately
as has Mauer, he’s basically 1/2 of my team.
my game seems to be frozen
or did Wright foul off a bunch of pitches?
He and Helton are in a heated battle for 3rd in the batting race
maybe not “heated” but it’s close, .328 to .327.

2010 opening day lineup?
At worst they could have:
Reyes
Pagan or FA
Beltran
Wright
Murphy or other FA 1b
French (probably stuck with him)
Thole
Castillo
That’s not too awful, that could be a wild card with some pitching. Right? Maybe?
It's not that bad
I can live with that depending on who the FA’s are
