A little controversy for the pre game
I was home today and happened to watch Jerry Manuel talking to Francesa on YES.
Francesa said:
Francoeur > Church and the Mets made out on the deal.
Reyes has taken too long to come back ( I took this as a hint that he thinks he’s milking it )
Then, after Jerry got off, Mike said that too many people are giving up the Mets for dead for 2010, and this is how he would fix them.
1) Trade for Gonzalez to play 1B. Apparently, according to his sources, Gonzales was within 2 minutes of being traded at the deadline (not to the Mets).
2) Get a #2 pitcher in the 10-12 million range to complement Johan.
3) Sign a LF, and keep Pagan as a fourth OF. I didn’t catch who he wanted to sign to play LF, but it wasn’t Holliday.
4) Keep Santos and get another catcher (did not mention Thole), but he did insist that Schneider has to go.
He also said Murph and Pagan should bench players.
I agree with parts of it
however who do we trade for Adrian Gonzalez?
Who do we sign for $10-12 million
And after that how do we afford Holliday
and how the hell is Francoeur> Church?

Because Frenchy has grit
and has two 100 RBI’S seasons while Church has none

If it were me..
I would trade anyone who is not a promising pitching prospect for Gonzales.
As for Holliday, because of what Boras did to the Mets with Perez, I would steer clear.
As much as i like Niese i might trade him for Gonzalez
Because we have Matz

would you rather give up Holt or Mejia

Very doubtful you’re going to get Gonzalez without giving up one of our top pitchers…
ain't had enough...
The Mets first pick?
We didn’t have a first round, and Matz is a suspect not a prospect.
you know I'm down for Crawford.
I’ll rent the provate jet myself and go pick him up.
Worry about paying for it later.
+1

From Metsblog....
…i just watched video of reyes speaking to reporters from the locker room, and he sounded very annoyed, and defensive, basically saying he is working hard and want to be back on the field helping his teammates… he said he doesn’t understand why people are saying otherwise…
I saw it too, and Reyes looked like he was on the verge of tears.
What's the line on Misch
I say 6 innings 4 runs 2 hits 1BB and 2K’s.The hits will come by Hanley and both be 2-run shots

7 innings 3 K 3 BB 2 R

Keith and Ron show!
You don't cheer for the Mets. You drink for the Mets.
He's a streak hitter
and he has difficulty with righties who have good, hard breaking pitches.
by keepcoolbutcare on Sep 9, 2009 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions
He's only a streak hitter this year.
He hasn’t been a streak hitter before, unless you count the second half of 2007 as a hot “streak”.
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa

not going to argue
I just always thought of him as one.
of course, all hitters go through ups and downs.
is there a magical place on the intertubes with cold hard numbers to back either of our claims?

Our MVP of the Bryce Harper sweepstakes
does it again.
Does anyone have any comps for:
A) A player who has a hall-of-fame arc up to age 26 and then plummets and is never heard from again:
B) A player who enters his prime and has the worst season of is career and then goes back to his normal arc at age 27.
Seriously, both of these are rare aren’t they?

still, the place is everything they said it was.
although…..I did spot cracked concrete, and I told my buddy if that was at CF, it would be all over the papers, but not with the Yanks.
Still it was cool to see the place, and a close game with a walkoff cheap HR to boot.
those are some good numbers

Yeah, it was very vague
Know, we’re not supposed to talk politics but the exchange was more interesting then this game
we're talking about the speeches though, not the politics behind them, so i think its ok
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 9, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions
True,
The response leads me to believe that the Rep. aren’t going to budge based on vague truths, such as this will decrease Medicare spending but not improve healthcare without citation as to why that is true, but I guess we’ll see. For the record, I’m a moderate so I’m not endorsing either speech.
yeah i have some tendencies towards each side depending on the issue
but moderates in government are like elves and leprechauns…. awesome and totally real… wait that other thing

ha
I respect the accomplishment and the player.
I despise the franchise and its fan base. on the fan base issue I was rudely reminded yesterday, so I’m good for another 15 years of hate.
Still, I wish I had followed Jeter’s career more closely. He is special.
He's like the only Yankee that i like
Good for Him

Tied in Philly
Hope they lose. And the only tiny bit of silver lining in losing these games to the Marlins is it allows them to try and catch Philly.
Yeah, the Marlins have been spoilers for us last games of seasons but I really, really want to see the Phillies choke the lead up to the Marlins.
Woo-Hoo
Marlins with the lead. Oh, the crying on BL tonight…..
With my Mets in the toilet this year, it’s the little things I live for….

and with the long ball, which is the only thing Philly has left worth a damn, they go ahead. Damn. Can’t even get enjoyment out of that game tonight.

Not trying to start a flame war, just curious about what the sentiment here is about Wright...
I have felt for some time that this team needs to break up this nucleus and Wright is someone I do not see as any more than a B/B- player. Shaky defense and consider that with all the big bats out of the lineup he should have an unusually high number of RBI’s but he has half of what the team should expect.
Please no flames.
He's been terrible (streaky) this year, but you can't get too many RBIs if you don't have baserunners or protection behind you in the lineup
I agree about the protection. None. But he has had Castillo in front of him for a good part of the year
and Luis is having a decent year at the plate.
true but hard to drive a guy in from first
and all those slap singles dont put him in scoring position that often.
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 9, 2009 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Rbis require baserunners
his defense is admittedly down this season, but id like to think its more a single season and not a continuing decline. This park has messed him up swing wise, no doubt, but he’s still batting 320ish, which isn’t bad. he has no protection which isnt helping him either. I see next year as a bounce back season for him, and getting rid of him would be a choice we’d regret
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 9, 2009 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions
Concur with all you points. I would like to find out if someone in the minors is in a position
to put some pressure on David to step it up.
I agree that trading him is a huge mistake. He’s signed for four more years pretty cheap.
please no flames

Just think about who would be a suitable replacement.
I can’t even think of anyone that would be available to the Mets on a trade.
and this is from someone who consistently KILLS D-Wright.
that would be me.
but I only do it because I want him to carry the team.
Actually I though of someone who would be bearable (at least to me)
and that is Kevin Youkilis, but…..no way that trade ever happens.
No Miguel Cabrera for me.
No A-Rod for me.
No ZImmerman for me.
everyone else is way below D-Wright in my opinion.
well yeah but if we lost wright in a trade
i think he’d be the closest replacement, not saying i’d rather zimmerman, just if we had to ahve another 3rd baseman, it would be him.
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 9, 2009 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions
never been high on youk
and his UZR at third this year is pretty bad (worse than wright and way worse than zimmmerman). his bat would replace wrights, but his defense would be a step down.
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 9, 2009 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions
available or not, there aren't many third basemen i think that could fill wrights shoes
i think ryan zimmerman would be the only one I wouldnt be totally furious about (i’d still be angry though)
WTF was that ?
can someone catch a fucking pop up in the team.
anyone ?.
Coaching fail all the way around, since ST.
