This is Why Joe Pos is a National Treasure
Like most readers here, I have steroid fatigue. But, for me this is less about steroids and more about someone--anyone--with the stones to discuss an issue like a grownup when other folks are content to yell and scream while sticking their fingers in their ears.
The money quote:
And how much of what we saw was steroid induced? Was it 90%? Was it 40% How much?
We don’t know. And while some people seem endlessly interested in standing on soap boxes and shouting down at the cheaters who have been caught or have come forward for whatever reason, it seems like we don’t want to know. Yes, the era may be defined by steroids, but it’s like people don’t want to hear that steroids were not the only reason that people hit a bunch more home runs. There are a lot of reasons people hit home runs.

Yeah, that was a great read.

The fact that he saved the Carlton Fisk takedown until almost the end confirms his greatness
But he is one man against the collective might of baseball writers, the most powerful yet myopic media group in sports.
What little respect I have for them collectively all but dissipated over this issue when nobody will interview a doggone exercise physiologist. These guys have been writing the same story for over a decade.

yeah, that's a fantastic piece -- Fire Carlton Fisk
I guess the thing I wish is that old ballplayers — especially great old ballplayers like Fisk — would look a little bit deeper rather than falling into the "In my day, we had to walk uphill through the snow" act. Can’t we have a conversation? Can’t we talk about this without constantly expressing our own moral superiority.
HOW DARE YOU, SIR. HOW DARE YOU.

The problem I have with the steroid era is the complicity of the different factions
that make up MLB. The Owners, Players and Union looked the other way because the cash was rolling in. I can’t understand people condoning or pardoning this aspect of the issue but I too am sick of the subject and I couldn’t give a fiddler’s f**k if anyone apologizes for it because the lies and deceit that accompanied that era are still with us today and probably will be for a long time to come.
