bah
WTF next? Sheets signs somewhere else too? Bah.

Good price for the halo's
I’d guess Sheets is now plan A, with Garland as plan B

I think if we don't manage sheets
Garland doesn’t really matter much anyway. Sheets can be a game changer if he stays healthy, Garland is a great piece to add for a team a piece or two short of being in contention, but adding a sturdy #3ish starter on a short contract doesn’t do much for the Mets with the number of holes they have. I like Garland, and had we accomplished much of anything this offseason aside from getting Bay and a few decent bullpen pieces, I’d say he’d be a great addition to make this team more competitive, but we just haven’t done enough to warrant needing the services of a guy like that. He’ll make a strong finishing touch for some team, but we aren’t that team.

He could be a good fit.
Santana, Pelf, Maine isn’t a bad 1,2,3 when Maine is healthy. Perez and Garland at the back might be ok (and not because of Garland questions). If nothing else it allows Niese to be cover for Perez/Maine (while keeping his service time down for the years we need to extend Reyes and Wright). I’m all for Omar making a salary dump type of trade, I’d just rather see Garland than a wiped out farm system.

Yeah but Garland really isn't likely to be any better than Niese
and actually could be worse. If he was replacing Ollie it would make sense but since Ollie’s locked in you don’t really gain anything but depth, which is good since at some point all our starting pitchers are going to fall apart but at this point it likely just means the difference between like 81-83 wins, if even that much.

it does not matter
I think it is pretty clear that Omar is incapable and without authority to get any deal done without having to vet it through Jeff Wilpon. By the time that process concludes, the target, who didn’t really want to come here anyway, has moved on. We were all fine with this when it happened with Molina because nobody really wanted him here but it is pretty upsetting to me to lose a quality pitcher like Pinero this way. Either fire Omar or let him do his job.
I have never advocated this before now but I am starting to agree with the notion that nothing will ever change around here while the Wilpons own the team.
Yeah but one problem
is the fact he focused on Molina instead of Piniero for months despite Molina not being much better than what we have and having major holes in the rotation. I can understand why he has to do one deal at a time with the ridiculous system Jeff apparently has in place but even in that case, unless Jeff is telling him who to focus on as well, which God help us if thats true, there’s no reason to spend so much time focusing on Molina while Piniero’s price dropped so low other teams were able to come in.
Not to mention why not go over the top with the offer to Piniero?

I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Wilpon told him to focus on Molina
We need home runs Omar!! We were last in home runs!! My spread sheet shows that every time that homerun apple goes up, we sell an extra 60 burgers, two cotton candy, 100 beers 50 hot dogs and 20 Citifield patches.
No amount of home runs
Could have ever sold 20 of those Citi Field patches from last year

I wonder if they even sold 20 all season

Compare that to the 14 listings it has for Benjamin Franklin’s book “Fart Proudly”.
