meh.
would the mets probably go after a trade for gil meche or arroyo or someone?
I don't need Jon Garland
Even though he consistently puts up a solid WAR. And I understand that the Mets aren’t winning the World Series this year. But really? It is just incredible to me that Omar is waiting out the SP market after the way this team pitched last year.

Yeah but it could also mean
reenacting the 2008 off-season.

it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
but what if we renenact the '07 off season
and make a great trade for a great pitcher?

Well, we have a few days until Feburary 1st, when an ace starter is supposed to fall into our laps for a few marginal players.
We should re-sign Phil Humber, so we can trade him again to a club that sees some value in him.

I don't mind the consitency in my life.
You have to figure one of these identical teams will finally luck into the playoffs.
Meh
They were good until December, kinda collapsed with those losses to the 49ers, Seahawks and Dolphins. They did crush the Titans though, so there’s that. Maybe if Favre wasn’t hurt down the stretch things would’ve turned out better.

what's with all this "meh" stuff
can’t we say “bah” once in a while. Or “i’m not impressed.” Or “sir, I simply do not give a damn.”
I’m meh about internet cliches.

I wouldn't say it's a cliche or anything.
I know, when I talk, I say meh. It’s more of a combination of ‘eh’ and ‘um’, meaning that I’m not too crazy about whatever it is, but I’m thinking about the possibilities, hence the ehing and the uming.

How about "humbug"?
Slightly different message than “meh”, but more fun to type/say.

Alternatives:
Pish-posh.
Poppycock.
Tchah.
I agree that “meh” is nearing overuse but it’s probably because I see it around here a lot and it’s a pretty accurate description of the Mets’ off-season so far.

Poppycock is more like "shit" in its uses more than a "meh"
meh is “I don’t care.”
Poppycock is “god-damn it” or like that’s poppycock is “that’s bullshit”

Well
I guess John Smoltz is the target now although I don’t understand why they’re waiting out the market this time. This offseason would’ve been the perfect time to move early on the SPs out there.
Coming this April, fun times with Jeff and Gary!
R.A. Dickey's chances of anchoring the rotation just got that much stronger.

Not a suprise
What’s amusing and sad is that the organization doesn’t seem to be concerned with the perception problem they have at all. Even if Omar has some back-up plan, he’s not reassuring the fans of jack. I suspect that omar’s still banking on a trade with the reds, but that’s no guarantee. I’m happy we didn’t pick up garland. Because he’s no better than what we have, but I understand the insurance argument. I just hope that Omar and company don’t think that Smoltz will satisfy the fan base.
Part of me
still does. Part of me thinks its simply incompetence at its worst. Part wishes for it to be true when I really know it’s not
agreed
i think omar is clearly banking on a trade with cincy.
if you heard his last interview w/ francesa, minaya seemed to intimate that he didn’t mind waiting until after the season started to consummate such a trade. i believe his words were “there are always players out there”. i guess we should have realized then that he wasn’t planning on bringing any other significant pitchers in…

the met's pittching sucks
let’s face it, we have santana and nothing else.. I would have welcomed taking a chance on sheets, harden or bedard. A freakin 1 yr contract. Obviously the wilpons are now making the financial decisions ( they should have said something when omar paid about 1.25M too much for cora ) I don’t want Smoltz I don’t want a 43 yr old former atlanta brave. Come on already , it’s time to make a trade for someone( arroyo or harang) Right now it looks like the mets are content to remain in 4th place for 2010 and start 2011 with a new gm and maybe a better staff of starting pitchers
I wish I was surprised.
After the FO’s disinterest in Marquis it dawned on me that they might actually be foolish enough to think that a rotation of Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, Perez, and Niese might be enought to get through the season. Even if we figure that two of the last three will be good for 20 decent starts each, that’s at least 60 starts we’re giving to the number 6 and worse starters.
Just incredible.
whats left to do ?
with garland and now sheets gone who is left please no smoltz i would rather give wang a shot it looks like r.a. dickey was our big pitching sign so far ..
I don't think it matters.
A bounceback guy who the club is lucky to get 100 innings of 4.50 ERA from isn’t going to come close to getting the Mets to the wild card.

Who's ready for
a Wang and Dickey double header on a nice Sunday in June?
On Gil Meche
This is the one guy I would LOVE for the Mets to bring in, especially if they can manage to dump Castillo on Dayton Moore in the process. Most people don’t know this, but Meche is a strikeout machine (or at least a simple machine) and gets outs. Last season he was hurt, but in 2007-2008 he was worth every penny the Royals were paying him. If they pay let’s say $3 million per year to even out the money due to Castillo, I would do it.

If we could get Meche without giving up prospects
I’d be all for it

Agreed
But do have faith in Omar making a reasonable deal. I’m scared he’s going to give away whatever limited prospect we have. For christ sake look at GMJ, what a joke. Even if GMJ is warrented we still should have negotiated a better deal for him.
We could have at least gotten rid of Castillo

I didn'tclick
Bannister for Burgos I’m assuming…?
acting like a small market team
This sucks, it has been a very disappoiting off-season, with only 1 quality signing in Bay. Ifeel like a small market team.
They are acting like a dumb big market team
