Big Unit Retires
Not Mets related, but when one of the top 3 lefties of all time retires, I figure it merits a fanshot.

He was pretty good
but he was no match for Dae-Sung Koo.

Ha.
Or Voltron (lifetime 1.053 OPS). Or Fonzie. Or DabidRye. Or JoseJoseJoseJose.

Or Ty Wigginton (1.250)
On the other hand, no less a hitter than Rickey Henderson has the most PA against the Unit of anyone (85) and Unit did pretty well against Rickey (.558 OPS), although Rickey found a way to get on base against Unit like he did against anyone else (.388 OBP thanks to 26 walks in those 85 PA)
Or Joe McEwing
"I've been trying transcendental meditation, and that helps me be passive and wait on the curve. I've got to find something else to hit the slider." - George (The Stork) Theodore
That was what I had originally thought
because I remembered Super Joe getting some hits off him, but it’s not really true. McEwing (who had more PAs against Johnson than he did against any other pitcher, incidentally) OPSed .676 against Johnson, with 11 K’s in 46 PA, but he did also have a HR and 5 doubles mixed in there.
BUT, in 2000, when the Mets went to the World Series, McEwing did own Johnson to the tune of 3 doubles, a HR, a sac fly and a successfully executed suicide squeeze. Johnson only induced McEwing to make a non-run-scoring out twice in 8 PA that season.
Two of the doubles and the homer came in this game on May 21, 2000; not only did he knock around a future Hall of Famer, but in the bottom of the ninth he drew a leadoff walk off Byung-Hyun Kim, stole a base, and scored the winning run on a single by Derek Bell. Game of his life? I think it’s got to be up for consideration, eh?
Mr. Koo owns Randy Johnson.

Why'd we get rid of Mr. Koo?
I wish he was still around…

Maybe he's lying, but I don't think so
A buddy, an honest man, a Seattleite, was puking into the toilet of a heavy metal club when he heard a concerned voice from outside the stall. “Are you ok, man? You don’t sound too good. You need some water?” “Yeah, Jesus dude, I’m fine.” He opens the stall door, ready to flash a scowl at some annoyingly sober person, and it’s… Randy Johnson. He tells Randy that he really likes the work he did for some metal magazine that Big Unit used to take photos for. “You know about that?!” They hit it off. “Nicest dude ever.”
Or what Jeff Pearlman thinks
Then again, Pearlman hates most pro athletes.

well kudos to johnson if indeed
he scowls at the yabbers and the jabbers but understands that some lonely vomiting metal head is deserving of his basic human kindness. that’s being like jesus.
“I’ve heard it a million times—no one cares how athletes treat the media. Well, I care.” Funny picturing Jeff typing with his “I’m taking a stand” face.

I pictured him delivering the rant
like Otter in Animal House’s “Then isn’t this an indictment of our educational systems in general?!” speech, complete with walking out of the room to the Star Spangled Banner.

To his credit, "The Bad Guys Won" is a really great book.
Got it this Christmas.
Beer is good! And stuff!
it will forever kill me
that one of the all-time great Mets books is written by that dope.

A lot of fun
Lucky for us he wasn’t an annoying little prig when he was a little kid enjoying the ’86 mets, and he could write about it all with good humor. Now the man has a lot of hate to give, I guess The Johnson piece? Hilarious!

I've resisted reading it b/c I can't stand Pearlman
but I guess I should give it a read at some point
2009 Did Not Happen
He may or may not be the last man to win 300, but I think his will defenitely be the last Mullet we'll ever see in the majors.
Long live the Mullet

And here I figured Omar was going after Johnson to fix our pitching woes...
