Who is this punk, Rich Coutinho, and why did he get to interview R.A. Dickey, while I did not?
That aside, however, more evidence of the awesomeness that is R.A. Dickey.

Dickey's the best
I get the sense that he realizes how beloved he is here, and I hope he decides to re-sign here. I want Dickey to be our Wakefield!
2009 Did Not Happen
Rich Coutinho: What was the whole ride like for you this season?
RA Dickey: It was fairly tumultuous in the beginning……………………

yeah I read this line and I was just like "Dickey wins"
Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.

I hope he gets a nice 2 year contract because he deserves it.

R.A. Dickey....On mentality and attitude...
You know, I can’t remember who gets credit for the platitude, but, one person once told me the mental to the physical is 5 to 1, and that’s true.
Is Dickey immune from the hatin’? I want to see.

Considering the context
in that he’s talking about re-inventing himself from a conventional pitcher into a knucklerballer, I don’t see anything wrong.

Heh, you keep banging that drum
Look, the point of relying on numbers is, that is what is quantifiable. If a person has extraordinary mental discipline, which allows him to make everything possible of his physical gifts, that will show in the numbers, right? (I personally think Beltran’s willpower, for example, as measured in his laborious training of every aspect of his mental and physical self, is at least a match with the physical gifts god gave him.)
I’m sympathetic to the argument that things like a hard slide can contribute to the team winning, and won’t ever show up in an individual’s numbers. But with that caveat, everything you want to suggest — that a person’s mental fortitude and psychological strength enters into, or even dictates, his (or her) performance — all of that is measured in the numbers! It contributes to their performance, nobody’s suggesting that it doesn’t. What’s advocated is that we measure performance in the best available numbers, not in our perceptions of “grit” or “will” (or, in my beloved Frenchy’s case, “presence”). Because those things, if they actually matter in outcomes, will inevitably show up in the numbers. And if they don’t, there’s not much there.
Chain Yanking...Effective.
I did that to see who was paying attention. :P
Basically, I agree with Ogre’s point about context. This type of mental discipline might mean something w/r/t Ollie, who clearly needs to be remade or removed, but the context controls here.

More Importantly...
This was a terrible interview. He didn’t ask about the Dickey contest once. I bet if RA knew about that he would make a stop over here some day and tell us to believe.
At that point I think we would be forced to sponsor some form of charitable giving in the name of RA next year.

I wonder if Dickey ever google image search himself
the results are littered with our site’s wonderful work… all the more reason to keep making Dickey mspaintz!

Dickey's bb-ref page
is up in 2011-05-11.
As an aside, Johan Santana’s page is up for renewal real soon, and that crude Phillies message would best be going away…

Weird....
I had exactly the same thought writing that, but didn’t check when the sponsorship was up. Section 518, we are coming for what’s ours!

I don't think it says unless it's actually available
But it seems to depend on how popular the player is. Mike Jacobs costs $10, Barajas $20, and Niese $30. (Yeah, somehow no one has Niese’s page. It surprised me too.)
But then again, sponsoring Mike Nickeas’ page is $35, so who knows?
I will sit there like a 11 year old....
Trying to get Bieber tickets for the Hamels one. Any ideas on what the sponsorship name should be (I assume things like “Hamels sucks” would be dinged)…

He's married to
Heidi Strobel, who isn’t bad looking or anything, but really isn’t at the same level that Jessica Simpson is (the non-fat Jessica Simpson, anyway). Heh, for whatever reason, this made me think of the mid-90s Braves rotation, as compared to how Maddox, Glavine and Smoltz have performed in the last couple of years. Maddox, Glavine and Smoltz in their primes were a lot like Brittney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson/Mandy Moore in their primes. But, enough Thera-Flu enabled rambling..
